most spent in Tanna,Cystal(chillies).Or in Tiff's!!! funny people down there. .Wengen is such a special place even if you go on a ski holiday and don't ski that much, the people are great.I just worry about all those blue bags and the hymes in the cable car what's that all about?

snowchic, that's Oak Hall a Christian organisation who are in general fairly harmless, they have accomodation in Lauterbrunnen, but I've never heard them doing Hymns in the cable car before
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

D G Orf,Yer I got abit worried when they started singing hymes in the cable car I thought we were going to crash!Even the American cable car driver looked worried.
I like those blue bags they look cool, where can I get one from?
It won't have been the blue bags this week, what about the pink, anyone there seen the Sharks Ski Club from Sheffield - over 100 of them, staying in Lauterbrunnen.
They decided on pink hoodies and sweatshirts this year - big Sharks logo on the back, if you see any say hi to them they are a friendly bunch.
Don't know if they are having a retro ski wear day today, if so you will definately see them as quite a few have been ebaying for the early 90's stuff
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

escmatters, That's why I could not find any 80's90's ski wear on e-bay they had it all!
snowchic, you fruitcake, singing hymns in cable cars is just a way of getting to heaven (or Mannlichen) a bit quicker. Mind you the weather was so hot today it was more like being in that other place.
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

I heard them singing hymns on the train coming down from Scheidegg as well!
snowchic, saw some rather fetching nevica gear today that i am sure would interest you!

I saw those muppets today. I saw an elvis, countless clowns, some guy with a huge balloon, rabbit ears, big wigs, I could go on and on. Normally I ignore muppets on the piste but these ones all sang in the lift queue. My volume only goes up to 20 and I could still hear them.
Someone needs to explain to them how ski lifts work, as in if you all want to hold hands together on the same chair then let some people past you to fill up the empty seats on the chair in front.
Anyhow, Mannlichen before 3pm today was bordering on perfect, still some good untouched powder if you know where to go.
edit: I'll chuck in a quick edit, yeah those pink bag lot were having a good time today, don't want anyone to get the idea I'm planning to do anything dastardly to them, I just don't want to hear them singing

Really nice pics, telford_mike.

telford_mike, I've always liked the view from the Mannlichen, though the best viewpoint is from the peak of the Mannlichen itself, a fairly easy walk up from the top station of the cablecar

I wouldn't know, but it certainly can fly! Quick vid just for you (22Mb avi, right-click, save as)
telford_mike, Pretty sure it's a Super Club. Interesting effect in the video of frame rate and propeller rpm crating a sort of stroboscope effect - making the propeller look stationary whilst the throttle was being gunned.

innit mental busy, worse than xmas/NYE
I went for a hike today to lose every body, went as far up the Eiger as I can with my fear of heights, not one person around, sat around in just my trousers, even got my boobs out
This is as far as I could get,
you can't see it but there were 2 people coming down the eiger again.
And today I saw the most out there thing ever, 2 boarders came from the Monch direction and went down the eigergletscher, I've never seen that done before
I tried to burn it a bit with photoshop, you can just make out some of the tracks, I added a black line for the route they took. I'm impressed with that, especially as in the summer there are loads of crevasses visible. How they got there is equally as impressive for me.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
stab, I don't know if they used it but there is apparently a way to come over the top between the Eiger and Monch, must take a lot of guts though, I couldn't do it
D G Orf, Hey the walk up the mannlichen took me for ever it's worse than the Jungfrau marathon!
Any idea where I can get one of those blue bags from?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

telford_mike, Nice planes mate! got any trains I love the trains, that's why I ski the jungfrau region love it at the Tipi ,lots of trains:D
Has anyone been down to see the steam train in it's shed at interlaken ost?
snowchic, I've been on a train pulled by that steam engine, I think it's taken out once a month in the summer and used for trips down to Ballenburg where there's an excellent museum of Swiss Buildings, well worth a visit in the summer months

Well after my Eiger hike/sit and smoke/sunbathe I'm suffering from a burnt half face today, and it appears that in my sleep a bear raped me, violently. God knows how many people will be up the mountain today, I'm off to the Jungfraujoch on a summer ski fact finding/ice cream mission, gotta love those train passes

Chris Brookes, Somewhere arround I think I have pics of the steam train at Interlaken, I know I have pics of the one at Wilderswil as my mother took some when we saw it all done up for a wedding with flowers and everything, it looks very pretty, unfortunately I have several thousand pics of the area and no idea where those particular ones might be.
snowchic, there's another steam driven mountain railway that goes from a station on Lake Brienz the name escapes me at the moment but it goes from a point roughly halfway between Interlaken and Brienz and if I rember correctly is unusual in that the engine is built on a slant to allow the boiler to remain level as it climbs, I think I've just remebered the name, Rothorn i.e the train is the Brienz Rothorn Bahn
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

D G Orf, i think one of those trains was once on the WAB I'll pop down there in summer i'll be there mid August
Very possible, as WAB has been operated on Steam the first years... they did electrify it quite fast...
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Ronald, The WAB was converted to electrical opperation after the JB was built and running, I believe the JB was the first large scale electrically powered mountain railway in the world, more impressively it was always intended to run it electrically as this would allow for the consruction of much smaller tunnels, incredible when you realise that at the time the railway was started there were no commercially opperating electrically powered railways anywhere in the world
it's hot, it's sunny, mannlichen is great. This week is abuse week, after this season anybody who annoys me will get abuse. Been telling the club med kids to shut up, abusing morons, happy days

D G Orf, What is the history of the jungfrau bahn? Why did they build it?was it so they could go skiing?

There is no powder anymore, even one of my secret places is now crust in the morning I haven't been on the scheidegg side (wixi) for a while. Last time I did it was terrible, sticky glue. In the morning seems the time to go I guess. I don't care now, like it or not the end is coming Looking forward to zermatt in the summer now.
They built the JB just for something to do as far as I can make out, adolph guyer zeller was sat in murren and looked at the eiger/monch/jungfrau and figured out there must be a way up there, so they built it. 16 years it took them and the guy died before it was finished.
