one of the reasons I get so angry about people not looking where they are going, low flying stabs are around. I would put it on youtube but they sent me a stroppy email about copyright infringement so I'm not talking to them.

Saying that there isn't anyone around at the moment, piste is to icy for me in the morning but for skiing it's apparantley great, turns me back into a beginner again when it's icy.

season end? what is this end you talk of?
In the next 2 weeks or so my work will start picking up, then I get my head down and do 2 months or so straight through - no days off, then go to Zermatt Then work a bit more, then go to Zermatt then work a bit more, then go to Zermatt By then it's winter again
I prefer summer skiing (boarding), get up early, hit the snow, get a burnt face, come home and get changed and have an ice cream, what more do you want from life?
But all this is tinged with sadness, my missus has had enough of me being a lazy slacker in the winter, next winter I shall be working

Very shoddy picture (I knew I should have taken the camera today) but this is 4 guys skiing the west side of the Eiger. Took them 4 hours to get to the top. I tried to start a bet on how many sticks they dropped but no one took me up on it. Then I said that on a snowboard it's 3 turns to the bottom from the top before admitting I wouldn't even be able to go up past the eigergletscher station nevermind to the top. A bit worryingly though I never saw them reappear from behind the rotstock.

Blimey. I was at Mannlichen today - would have loved to see that. Presumably these are people who are too mean to buy a ski-pass and use the regular lifts like the rest of us?

Hi everyone,
thanks to the answers on my previous messgaes I've booked a stay in Lauterbrunnen this Easter. I was just wondering what the status of the pistes are at the moment? The lifts seem to be all operating, but that doesnt mean anything for the snow conditions I'd say. The area seems to be having less snow then last year.
I'll be with 2 beginners, what area would you advice for them, coming from Lauterbrunnen? Engeltal area seems to be having good snow, but is it suitable for beginners?
And am I right with expecting the weather to be very very warm and sunny from thursday on?
And what abou the reduction on sportpasses? Is that valid also for 3 days passes?
As usual many questions:-)
To everyone out there: enjoy your time!

The ski area around Birg (Murren) is suitable for beginners due to having a few blue runs aswell as the new Riggle chairlift that replaces the Engetal t-bar. You are correct the weather from thursday looks warm with the freezing level at 2650 on friday but snow-forecast.com are saying it will drop down to 2000m by sunday but that could change.
Also the 20% reduction is valid for a 3 day liftpass, hope that helps and enjoy !!

mannlichen, everywhere else is crap at the moment or too much for a beginner, arven is alright but I don't recommend that for beginners, the right side is a bit thin and the left side has a big compression mid way, actually saying that on skis for sre it's ok, for snowboard learning it sucks. Pistes are thin lower down now, I'll be surprised if the run to innerwengen stays open after tomorrow. Allmend to wengen is already shut, I can still board home with a little mud hopping but the end is in sight with these temps this week

If your beginners are absolute beginners (never skiied before), they'll need to start on the nursery slopes at Kleine Scheidegg or Mannlichen, both of which are fine. Forget anywhere else - I'm teaching a beginner this week and believe me it's tough and they'll need proper, local tuition to find suitable terrain. Mannlichen is ok once they've mastered snowplough turns, though the soft conditions are not the easiest. Even then the (blue) path from the top of Mannlichen onto the flatter part of the piste is tough, as it crosses 2 steep pistes on the way down.
Engetal is NOT suitable for absolute beginners - the pistes are far too steep - particularly the narrow paths down from Birg to the main run which leads to the new Riggli lift. Don't be deceived by the blue ratings of the runs - Murren has a tendancy to the vertical.
Weather is currently warm and is forecast to continue this way until October - it's spring here and it seems like summer is coming fast.
There's 20% off all ski passes at the moment.

Fresh snow today above about 1700 metres, and boy has it made a difference. Mannlichen was great today. Temps are 6 or 7 degrees lower than recent days.

Alastair Pink, I did it on the last day of our holiday we were all skiing back down to Murren from Birg and i fell on the red run. The worst thing is i dont even know how i did it !!
The day i got back i visited A&E, they did an X-ray and then arranged for me to visit physio. I have kneehole surgery in about 4 weeks time (as its classed as urgent)

It snowed a lot! Probably 30cm up at Mannlichen, if not more. Viz was a bit variable today, but good stuff anyhow. Spoke to a guy who lives in Wilderswil & he said it snowed all the way down to his house.
