Shitty weather today - cold and snowing. I've had to buy more winter clothing. It's supposed to be spring for God's sake!

to be honest I thought I was going to die it was so cold today so I don't blame him if he was in bed with a hot chocolate, I made the mistake of taking my gloves off on the wixi lift, won't be doing that again.

Well, I just checked www.metcheck.com to get an update on the weather (okay, so all that talk of tea leaves, chicken entrails and the like was reliable - the snow dis come, but there's no harm in looking to see what the scientists are saying!). Anyway, something is definitely amiss - on Sunday at 16:00 the temperature in Wengen will drop to a stunning -213 degrees celsius....I'm sticking with the chicken entrails.

Actually, on the Tuesday Liz B led a group of us over to Muerren - powder snow everwhere - Black 16 Kanonenrohr was amazing! (however, due to poor visibility, steamed up spectacles etc I did inadvertently ski into a large bank of snow, and being on free heels did a spectacular headplant! )
On the Wednesday I went with Maureen the SCGB rep over to Grindelwald-First, initially it was snowing and poor visibility, but by lunchtime the sun had come out and some magnificent conditions around Schreckfeld, First and Oberjoch. The run down the valley by the side of Gemsberg we had all to ourselves
On Thursday morning I had a 2 hour private Telemark lesson with Tino from the Privat ski school. He really worked me hard, and by the end of the session I was totally knackered, but it was great, and I learnt a lot. After the lesson I went over to Kleine Scheidegg and was having a well earned Gluhwein in the Tipi talking to the charming lady behind the bar (Petra) when she pointed out that stab had just arrived - good to have met you, Steve!
(By the way, you will have noticed that I took my own advice which I posted on the MSB thread, and met stab in a bar, not on the slopes! )

Chris Brookes, we didn't go on the Riggli chair (well, not on Tuesday. Visibility was so bad, we wanted to get down quick. Thurs was a far better day in Murren.

well it should be all the same height but last night the snow went too cold and wouldn't pack properly. This afternoon I'll make it all the same height, fill in the transition a bit more, then ride straight at it, in theory I will shoot out of the top, look really cool then land back on the transition. I hope. Even if I don't survive at least I wound up my neighbours noisy kids, seems they were using this part of the hill as a sledge run, had their mother out last night moaning that I built a wall on the sledge run

telford_mike, It always has been a rubbish village run due to its location but at least it means you can always ski back to the village. The 2004 storm caused a huge landslide which took away most of the Palace corner (where the saftey nets are) and for a time it was touch and go if they could repair it.
Was the Winteregg-Lauterbrunnen run open ?

telford_mike, crumbs, the snow has melted quickly in Lauterbrunnen.
I use to love it when you could buy roasted chesnuts in Lauterbrunnen when waiting for the trains.

It's good to see Wengen still has life,it's a great place to be even if you just get pissed and nurse the hangover from hell!Would not want to anywhere else.

it's the beginning of the end I fear. Allmend - wengen closed today. Mannlichen is still great, besides being made of solid concrete in the mornings, Scheidegg side is a bag of spanners by 1pm, by 5:30pm when I came down it was a box of frogs, not good.
I have a new board (see sentence below )so spent most of today on Arven with it, a 137 That's 22 cms shorter than my normal board, it's great, just like skateboarding but I think I may break it soon, well it is a kids board after all. Even has some newish salomon SP something bindings I 'aquired'.
I also have a picture to show but cant get my card reader going at the moment, it's related to me posting ages ago about things getting stolen outside tipi. Turns out they were just hiding, after some pick work god knows how many skis/snowboards/helmets and sticks came out of the ice.

Oh by the way. The Jungfrau Ski-ometer is broken. I did the impossible today according to my readout:
09:37 LWM Talstation Luftseilbahn 1910 5 948
10:05 SB Läger Sesselbahn 2079 7 446
10:21 SB Läger Sesselbahn 2079 7 446
10:38 SB Läger Sesselbahn 2079 7 446
10:50 SB Gummi Sesselbahn 675 3 219
10:58 SB Arven Sesselbahn 1021 4 223
11:47 SB Wixi Sesselbahn 1618 6 494
12:16 SB Innerwengen Sesselbahn 630 3 233
13:36 SL Honegg Skilift 1757 6 459
14:16 GGM Holenstein Bergfahrt Gondelbahn 3001 15 601
14:46 SB Männlichen Sesselbahn 1860 8 435
14:57 LWM Bergstation (TF) Luftseilbahn 1910 5 0
Gesamt: 4950m
If anyone can tell me how you can ski directly from Honegg to Holenstein I'd be grateful to know. Maybe Tschuggenlift isn't really part of the Jungfrau Region?

Anyway, you're doing well that it's your stats coming up. My lift pass told me I'd been skiing the week before I was there, and not the days I did actually ski,

I like to call that hour the concrete hour, I didn't enjoy it this morning, I was on lager around that time. Some skiing friends said it was great, normally that would bother me but my trousers are baggy and I look cooler

7 minute ride up leaves 9 minutes to get back down again - what were you playing at hanging around like that!!! Did you have to stop for a sit down part way

haha not my times, telford mike's times touche!
Most skiers do lager like this - 7 minute ride up, get to top, point at things with sticks, maybe stand on a jump and point at something else, begin descent, get halfway, take a picture of something whilst stood on a jump (doube points)repeat the pointing sticks step, continue, go back for dropped sticks, continue, pointing stick step etc etc

telford_mike, Tschuggen lift might be independently owned, At least that is what I understood talking to some local on the Fallboden (My german is a bit less good then his), whom i think works for Jungfraubahn.. There are a few companies around operating lifts in the JungfrauRegion, even 'KS/Mannlichen' are not all the same.
stab, " but my trousers are baggy and I look cooler "
I specifically bought very much non-baggy pants to make sure i don't look like someone who enjoys sitting down in the middle of one of the Lager bowls
