OK it is already snowing up the hill. It will continue to dump this afternoon through Thursday . We can expect at least 0.5M by tomorrow probably double that by Thursday.
FYI. This season many establishments are refusing to accept American Express CC. THis also includes the Lift Company.

News to me that they ever accepted Amex... did they in the past? I know most places in Austria are alergic to plastic, I can still remember when ABBAG wouldn't take any credit cards at all...
Good news on the snow, roll on Jan 25th!!!

Thanks for the heads up on that!! I'll be over in March for honeymoon & I generally use Amex. It gets me my airmiles which gets me European ski trips!!! This'll be my first time to St Anton, can't wait for it!

Markymark29, that may well have changed since last year.
My German bank, like many others, has changed from Maestro to Visa/Electron and that is identical to my Nat West Visa debit card. I've used both all over the place this season with no problems what so ever so far. Actually since Nat West changed to the Visa Debit card it has been much easier to use that card over here to pay for all sorts of things I could not do before with the Maestro card.

If you are coming form the US you may be surprised to find a places sometimes don't take cards in Austria. Most restaurants and hotels in St Anton do, but it's worth checking. One hotel we stayed at offered a 2% discount to pay in cash, so it's worth checking that too. They are more than happy to handle large notes, such as €50 or €100 - whereas in France I've had trouble using these.

It's stopped snowing down in the village at the moment but was dumping all day on the hill. Low visibility where contours aren't always obvious until you hit them is making skiing interesting (who put that drop there?). Never seen such a high percentage of my fellow countrymen in St Anton - is it Cheap Brit Chav week or something? Anyone want to meet up for a few turns tommorrow - all applicants accepted even Dutch cloghoppers?

Just to clear up . The lift company has accepted Amex for some years & restaurant joints like the Hazienda. They are now just making it generally uncomfortable & prefer Visa etc.

Posted this in the general Austria thread too, but if it's snowing here it's probably snowing in the Arlberg too:

So.
It's snowing hard in Innsbruck, at valley level. Driving up to Hungerburg was interesting, nearly got side-swiped by a BMW. Here at Hungerburg (800m) it's puking. A good 10cms in the last 2/3 hours. No sign of it stopping. Supposed to go to a party now, not sure we can get back after...
I think it's fair to say Nordkette may be absolutelyoffthescalementalepic tomorrow. I think my first turns of the season may well smash me in the face with a load of white orgasmic goodness. GoPro and camera charging.
Touchwood (my own, right now, I'm that excited), it keeps snowing all night. Booyah.

Looks like all the high lifts are closed on Galzig/Gampen side and Stuben too, so Rendl is the place to be today. Unless you're on the other side of the Arlberg pass, in which case it must be epic in Lech today.... and none of the rabble from St Anton will make it over.

Epic Snorkel Powder on Rendl NW face.
The best thing all those powder lines will be filled in tonight with the next storm
Talk here about rain tomorrow night but that should be below 1300M so
We shouldn't get wet to much!
It will be Spring like Friday but just for the day.
Saturday another storm & bitter cold temps!

We missed our flights today due to avalanche risk on the passes. About a metre of snow has fallen in Lech over the past 24hrs.

Ok folks its warmed up tonight. It will be sunny +C temperatures tomorrow. The wet snowfall coming down now will help compac the pistes for the season.
DorfStrasse & anywhere downtown this evening is good for ice skating:-)
The Avi situation will continue to be very dangerous off piste tomorrow. All this snow is sitting on what was 10c+ grass two weeks ago.
Do not expect any of the upper areas to be open anytime soon .
In Lech someone was taken out by an Avalanche this afternoon(survived).
LECH & ZURS are closed off until Friday morning 07:00
Arlberg Pass & FlexenPass are closed till tomorrow morning when the Lawine Comission will meet to decide how to proceed
