La Blonde,
Oi! leave my feelgood factor alone!
Whether or not we think the federations were any good, (or indeed any bloody use whatsoever) does not alter the fact that one of the main representatives of our sport has been left short of the readies.
Just because someone else hasn't done the right thing, doesn't mean I sit by and wring my hands in angst. I tend to try and do what I can. It doesn't matter if its time, money or encouragement, I'll give what I think is appropriate, within context.
If individuals refuse to help out on the basis that its somebody else's problem and fault, then we are a poor society, and I would not be awfully proud of myself if I took that stance.
Are you not contributing to Haiti disaster relief on the basis that the Papa and Baby Doc nicked all the money, so its their fault and not your problem? Different scale, but same issue.

If someone is good enough, surely s/he can find corporate sponsorship?

and in Chemmy's case she does - Witan investment appear to be incredibly supportive financially. Trouble is that it takes more than that to get to the top and ski racing doesn't give corporate sponsors the kind of exposure necessary to return their investment in exposure terms.

La Blonde we like her. She gave time to come and ski with us at Hemel back last year. She's part of the snowHeads family now, whether she likes it or not...

That's what i said a week ago.......
I'd have thought a response of some sort from admin would be courteous. Even if it was to say that there is no news yet.

I note that Victoria Pendleton has not been reticent in doing "glamour" work for titles such as FHM. They also have a federation that is, after a lot of problems in the 80s, professionally organized.

Well, I don't mind our rugby players getting their kit off tastefully for charity calendars, but why should the girls have to do it for funding their sports- less interest no doubt. You guys are a bunch of less said the better and are probably weedy .

La Blonde, well the Ancient Greeks had no funding issues and no sports apparel either. Has to be a connection there somewhere.
Fit girls like taking their gear off and flaunting it - they are using us weedy "bunch ofs" and not the other way around. There are plenty of very well-funded sports chicks on the Sports Illustrated site to prove it... Mrs Vonn for example.
How about a little pic of you?

I can appreciate that some sportwomen do not want to do fashion and glamour shoots I was just noting that some have gone down that route including vonn, manusco (who has a range of smalls to pimp) and oor own Viccki.
I wonder what la Pendleton got for the FHM issue? Probably enough to buy a couple of bike wheels.

Hurrah! So what's the hold up with telling us when and what is happening to the money?
I started asking two weeks ago, including a PM to admin and have had zero response up until this post.

First law of fundraising: keep your existing donor base happy. If you do, they may stump up again, if you don't they certainly won't, plus they'll bad-mouth you to other potential donors. This silence is doing Chemmy no favours.

Agree, I don't expect a long-running commentary on exactly what is happening with it, but I did expect just two words - "thank you".

If 200 of us donate £20 that might help with transport to get Chemmy and her kit around the final events of this season. if a few more of us chip in then maybe Chemmy might not have to compete without the support of a physio or even have her coach at each event. |
Has the season finished now ?

Don't worry, the risk that the funds have been embezzled is somewhere below nil. But that's not quite the point, or at least not the whole point.

Boredsurfing, wot u trolling for? - they were clearly and expressly NOT charitable donations. And my guess - and it's only a guess - is that admin has researched the need, or otherwise, for ABTA bonding in some depth.

Boredsurfing,Admin is well within the regs. I think you're actually referring to an ATOL - he's not packaging air with accommodation so no issue.
Did the 303 myself tonight - a breeze.
