skimottaret, will this do??!!
Was a bit busy to take too many piccies today, but with a good deal of caution there was some great skiing to be had out there... the pic above was round 2 on this slope...
Plenty of avalanche activity to be seen, including a fair sized slab under Speedball (R of Cote Brune on way up) which looked skier-triggered - as has been pointed out in another thread caution is needed off piste currently due to the large temperature variations + snowfall + v.strong winds of the last 3 days...

got back from a week in meribel at the weekend - conditions as we left were absolutely superb, with heaps of fresh powder. as was said, friday was a disaster - far and away the worst day for skiing i have experienced!
conditions for anyone heading out there should be superb, as the base should be spot on now with any further snow being a bonus.
oh and if you can find them, theres a cheeky couple of jumps we created down near our chalet in chandon - take the villages run and enjoy
too many great runs to mention but a good one has to be the blue combe laitelet down to the chaudanne. usually very quiet and comes alive if you take it flat out from the top...

absolutely dumped it down all day here in Courche still going strong. Complete carnage on the roads chaos, buses really struggling to get up the hill some guests stranded. Looking good

david duval, good news about the snow, not good about the roads though. Received a dump alert from Merinet today. How much fresh has come down today do you think?

Just back from les menuires - snowing heavily as we left and in the am was carnage on the roads (2 hours to moutiers for the chalet next door to us), when we left at 4pm going DOWNHILL was fine, geneva in just over 2.5 hours, but the queue going up was horrendous. They were keeping the road clear though and geneva was running very timely.
Must have put down a foot at least - we had 2" on our skis over lunch in VT (45mins) and were skiing in knee deep powder at about 3pm yesterday.
Absolutely fab for anyone that can get out there - have a great time! Will post trip report and more later....

Yippee! Don't know why I'm getting excited, I'm not going again for ages. Great for anyone going out soon though!

Had a fab week there last week. Enough snow, but not "plenty". Some runs getting pretty short of snow by the end of the week on account of high winds - goodness only knows how they measure the reported "1.06m" on high slopes. Imagination, I guess...
A dusting of snow, plus the heavy wind meant the pistes were covered with (second hand!) powder on Thursday and Friday. Friday night saw probably 4 inches plus of fresh snow (there were 4" on the balcony rail in Meribel centre), and it carried on during Saturday.
Sadly we had to finish Saturday lunchtime - and then spent four hours waiting for our coach, so could have had a full day. Shame. Once it arrived (apparently a coach left the road between Meribel and Bride les Bains) we had a good run to Grenoble, and the flight left only an hour late, so back home by 11pm. For people arriving, the queues went all the way from the mountains half way back to Grenoble...
Now I've got to face a week (or rather 2 months) in the office...
Favourite places to ski:
1. Anything down into St Martin (Jerusalem, Pramint, Pelozet, Verdet, Biolley). But best left by 3pm as EVERYBODY gets there by then - very nice in the sun!
2. Anything from the Meribel/VT ridge down into Meribel. Rossignol at 9am has to be the nicest run EVER. The black, Ecureil, tends to be nicer than the adjacent reds as it is uncrowded/empty, and less skied out.
3. Courchevel. (Scarcely needs qualifying, as it was all superb, but particular favourites were Creux, Combe Saulire, Folyeres, Moretta Blanche, Mur, Cave des Creux, Lac Creux, Loze).
Least favourite places:
1. VT - as never got there. Friends of chalet-mate were staying there and were apparently unable to get out of the VT valley for four of the six days...
2. Pic Noir - sadly attempted virtually first run on first day - "a harder blue than this there is not in the 3 Valleys" somebody wrote. Too true.
3. Niverolles - In a howling gale, with drifted powder obscuring the moguls, and then 2 feet of drifting dust on top so you couldn't see a thing. A head wind, etc. etc. etc. Ugh.

Windy windy again today but lots of fresh to play in.
Conditions around Courchevel generally v.good (if slightly windswept in places), super-light fluffy powder in the trees. Limited opening up high though (Saulire, Marmottes) but enough to get at everything for those who braved the wind/cold; runs down low (Le Praz/La Tania/Bozel) in excellent nick.
Due to stay cold, with more snow forecast for Friday, so happy days for everyone coming out for half-term!!

My little boy's first go on ski's too - so it'll be good if the pistes remain in good condition.

Cold as in COLD today again, properly baltic, but awesome conditions again (see La Plagne snow reports..). Looks like its set to warm up a bit in the next day or two though..
