nextascent, I'd probably suggest the Bellevue over the Jugfraublick from memory but I don't know anyone who's stayed at either in recent years I'm afraid.
Have you tried the Schonegg, Hirshen or Baren Hotels ? I know all three have a reputation for good food
Also did you contact the Alpenrose direct with a booking request ? Normally during that period they'd be fairly quiet as it's after the Lauberhorn races and before the half term period however most of their bookings are done direct but I guess it would depend on how many of you are going

Snow report
It must have been a bit warm yesterday, no snow left in Wengen though a light fall is forecast for today and Sunday, Kline Schidegg only has 5cm now and the Mannlichen 7cm, Eigergletscher still has 25cm though.
The bad news is that it may starty to warm up towards the middle of next week

We shall see, I'm not too worried at this time about the resort level snow, that often does not appear till almost Christmas, but I'd hope the snow keeps building at the top, once they get over a foot it tends to stay for some time, but with only 10cm or so it could go in about 2 or so days of warm weather

Snow Report, Wengen has lost 1 cm since yesterday all others remain the same, recent cold weather has ment that the snowmaking facilities have been busy and it is anticipated that the resort will open next weekend for some limited skiing.
A couple of days of slightly warmer weather are anticipated with possibly some rain lower down on Wednesday turning to snow later, long range forecast predicts snow from Thursday till early next week

Wengen will open this weekend. Just the Arvengarten lift, but that provides 2 pistes assuming they've cannoned both sides.
|
|
|
|
|
|
telford_mike, from memory there are no cannons at the top of the Blue run so probably only the Red to Arven will open if there's enough snow
|
|
|
|
|
You know it makes sense.
|
yeah I've never seen any on the 'blue' side, not even sure whether there's any water for them. Don't need a great depth of snow that side though, as you don't actually need to make any turns

Not all that cold there today, Wengen forecast for +1 Kl Schidegg arround -6 C though Shilthorn currently -18 c , light snow forecast for today but warmer weather for the next 5 days, The nursery slopes now have 15cm of snow 5cm is fresh stuff, higher up arround 10 cm fell yesterday so Kl Schidegg and Mannlichen both report 20cm of snow, there is even a very light snow covering in Stechelberg, again arround 5cm or a little more appears to have fallen in Murren.
Mannlichen may open next weekend if there is enough snow, Schilthorn won't open till the 14th of December as they appear to be carrying out renovations or repairs there till then
Very long range forecasts predict further heavy snow next weekend

Well done chaps, I notice that if you put "jungfrau skiing" into Google this thread comes 4th!

DG Orf, Can you tell me what site you use for your forecasts? Is it Snow-forecast.com?
I'm wondering if it's worth subscribing as I'm not sure how accurate the 6 day forecasts are. Has anyone else an opinion?

Wow, not bad, possibly I should point the local tourist offices here and get a commission What do you think ?

Brian T, I wouldn't use snow forecast if they paid me ! I use several one from wengen.com and the other long term forecast from meteoschweiz with 3823 as the postcode plus a little local knowledge of how the mountains tend to effect the local weather picked up over the last 30 odd years I've been going there

Its funny how Wengen tourism state that today Wengen has 15cms in the village while Murren only has 5cms

Chris Brookes, something similar happened last year, Grindelwald got almost 30cm in one dump and Wengen got just 5cm, a km or two as the crow flies makes all the difference, I think the whole area got about 8cm over the last couple of days but that could be varied by say 5cm either way, Wengen has been building artificial snow on the nursery slope for the last week but I don't think Murren has
Ian Hopkinson, I know, I know, but I have nothing else to do except look after my dear old Mother

Snow report for the day is not so good, wengen now has between 5 and 10cms in the resort with lots of warm weather forecast, the long range forecast now suggests that it will pour with rain on Friday rather than snow, but they still suggest snow from Saturday onwards, I guess we wait and see, on the bright side the night time temps are forecast to still be well below zero so the higher snow should stay

Snow report for today
Lauterbrunnen still has a cm or two, expecte it to vanish today or tommorow
Wengen has 5cm in the village and 15cm on the nursery slopes
Wengernalp has 15cm
Kl Schidegg/Mannlichen have 25cm
Eigergletscher has 40cm
Possible light rain/snow today (Snow guess predicts 4cm) with brighter warmer weather for the rest of the week starting to cool possibly at the weekend (snow guess predicts 6cm of snow on Saturday), I'd anticipate the village snow except on the nursery slopes to have vanished by then but the upper slopes should retain some of their existing cover, hopefully the long range forcast of snow about a week from now will materialise

D G Orf, Elizabeth B, thing is i want to keep Murren a secret so the pistes stay empty and they don't change the way of life there at all.

Chris Brookes, There's not enough space at Murren to do any serious development there and it takes such an age to get up there that I think you'll be ok for the forseable future

Well, there is gossip in the air about extending the ski area ,getting rid of the funnicular(saying that for a while thou..) and maybe another hotel/appt block ..
Some good but mostly very bad gossip. All i want is the T-bar to be replaced for a 2 chair at Birg, simple request really
