SMALLZOOKEEPER, Nice.... thats me told then.... total and utter bullshite hmmm.... more than a few have said how useful it has been.

Nope, not drunk, stoned or hungover. Just a bit tired, i saw the thread title so took a look to see what terms and phrases might have been added. I imaged it might be a little like a Thesauarus or Dictionary, instead i found a a whole load of twoddle between people that clearly need to get out on the mountain instead of sitting about chatting about it like it's some kind of Science. Sorry mate, but maybe to are too close to see it. Look at the thread title, then take a step back and read this shite. It's UTTER CRAP. Sorry, that's how i see it.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, go to the opening post on the first page and you will find the Dictionary and Thesaurus. The 8 pages of "twoddle" is people chipping in ideas and debating the terminology. I only started this thread as many were moaning about use of jargon that they couldnt understand or appeared elitist. But of course you know this as you helped with a few of the boot related definitions.
i am too close as i took this little project on as a contribution to keeping a technical section going on snowheads. I come here to learn about how skiing works, to get a clearer understanding about skiing related things, and, to swap ideas on renting my apartment. It isnt a substitute for the pub for me, but to each their own...
we have had this barney before.. can't you just let me talk about my hobby and pick up some tips and understanding of skiing without butting in with such rancor? I dont storm into your threads and upset the apple cart

SMALLZOOKEEPER, this thread is like a thesaurus or dictionary, save that the discussions between people (which happen, of course, in the compilation of any thesaurus or dictionary) leading up to an eventually agreed definition, are public. I think it's rather wonderful the way that skimottaret has actually managed to achieve agreement between such a bunch of argumentative ner...sorry, skiers...on so many of the definitions and, indeed, seems just about to do so on the latest ones to which you have taken such exception.

Nothing personal towards skimottaret, he/she has a reason for being here, watching and reading people getting all worked up about 'Gate Banana wibble wobble fish cock knockers.' but these lot are such so dull and personally i hate it all, i don't want anyone else to hate it, nor am i attacking there right to speak, i'm simply refering to the fact that I think it's the worst pile of drivel, waste of time, space and energy, i personally have ever seen, read or looked at in my life. That said and Action Sports is my life and livelyhood and i still can't see anything interesting or slightly relevent to the real world that these persistant bores continune to 'Top Trump each other with. You don't see CEM and Myself and the other Plastic Chefs, dragging out their POV on such a benign and regular basis as is with 90% of the UTTER drivel spouted for the masses on BZK. It's a disgusting visual representation of why, mother nature is sending all her worst to seek these idiots out and take them away bu sea, air or fire. Darwin has turned, piroetted and layed down several Misty flips in his grave due to these IDIOTS.

Am i really working 24hrs a day to try and make the lives of these people cheaper and better. Makes me sick. Yes i am tired, tired of this Drivel.
As of today, i will post something in protest for every post enterd on BZK. It's shite.

FYI I'm a He, take that personally, and dont like it, even though you tag a pussy little smiley face at the end of your insult. The reason I am hear is not to tug anyones strings or stroke my ego but to learn about skiing and exercise the brain cells while talking about it. I post here, i have taken courses and have even read a book or two to increase my skiing knowledge. I have decided that corporate life didnt suit me and I am looking to start ski teaching to earn a crust (a profession I gather you loathe) and have just started race coaching. A few of the other halfwits here like rjs, martinbell, fastman, offpisteskiing, grahamn etc. have lots of experience which i could learn from.

SMALLSHITSTIRRER since Action Sports is your livelihood I would have thought that establishing the correctness or otherwise of the terms used to describe those sports was a sensible thing to do, so allowing sensible discussion of the topic. The fact that you think it's all shite says way more about you than it does about us. Whether you like it or not, these are all common terms used by racers and coaches, and it's sensible for those to be defined. Jargon is only confusing mumbo jumbo if it's kept as a secret language.
Time for to start taking the tablets again methinks. skimottartet, I think we'd better ignore him from now on.

GrahamN, Not sure what it says about me, that's for the others to decide. I think this 'Glossary' is great and credit to "Skimostlyaveclatete" for his work.
You did write this though, not matter in association with what, it's ridiculous.

There's nothing ridiculous about it at all - both terms are used interchangably for the same gate combination, and in the context in which we are talking are synonymous. You are equally likely to hear one as the other, hence both should be there.
Anything further about which you'd like to parade your ignorance?

skimottaret, Ignore? Tantrum? HaHa. I am very tired, excuse any deep seated offence taken, but you lot really do go on, and on, and on, and on sometimes. You really need to read some of this stuff. I know alot of my stuff on here is utter shite, but is never ment to be serious in any way. You guys are like a Parish council sometimes. As i say the 'Glossary' is ace, great job, i'm going to Plagarise the hell out of it. But please.....................do any of you understand this Phrase...
"Freeriding"?

SZK, while I pretty much entirely agree with your position - it's kind of like criticising Epicski posters for being obsessive (though I guess they're generally skiing more). If it makes people happy, let them re-invent the wheel to their own designs...

DaveC WTF!!!? - no wheel reinvention here, just clarification and explanation of commonly used terms. If you want everyone to remain in ignorance, fine, but what kind of teacher does that make you???

I've been skiing 5 out of the last 9 days (and skied most if not all of those gate combinations BTW), and will be again tomorrow. And you?

Commonly used terms as first introduced to me by ex-Europa Cup skier and trainer at Les Deux Alpes, and subsequently by many other coaches. You really are such a hypocrite, as you've never been slow to come out and wilfully baffle people with your arcane boot stuff. Prat!

150 days last season, 100~ the season before. Probably 150 again this season. 0 days in gates!
Sorry, I just agree with the general opinion that this forum would quite easily fly an air balloon. "commonly used terms" is probably a bit of a stretch, unless you spend a massive amount of time on this forum talking about irrelevant crap - then I guess you might need a glossary

DaveC, Awesome and very true, however let's be impartial for 1 second. The world of Action Sports is diverse and is an outlet for us all to live out our dreams whilst stuck in our otherwise hum-drum lives, all thes terms do need to be included in this 'Glossary' however as you point out there is a difference between commonly used 'Phrases' that we all come into contact with on a regular basis and real 'terms' that help us understand the industry. This kind of discussion to me, at least is 'Top-Trumps', Elitest and serves some kind of Psyhcological benifit to those who have issues representing themselves and being heard in their day to day lives. Keep this 'Glossary' going i say, but let's have a spot of humility when it comes to the fact that sometimes, we are just being plain stupid and therefore funny. After all we are all stupid and/or funny to someone at any given time. Me especially. Now i need to nip off, there's a train coming into platform 3 and i haven't noted it's engine number.

FreeRiding - previously known as off-piste skiing. A term coined by marketers from within the ski industry in the 90's prompted by falling ski sales as disaffected youths switched to snow boarding. In a bid to stimulate sales of skis and ski magazines, skiing was rebranded as being "cool" again and the unsuspecting public was bombarded with images of world class athletes hurtling down first descents with the implied message that you too can ski like this and have fun hucking cliffs if you have reverse camber, fat boy double whatsit signature model skis with beefy touring bindings.

FastMan, Thank you, and now that normal service has resumed on this channel...
Carrots - Markers used to set out training courses for ski racing. Carrots are screwed into the snow and have soft tops that if skied over will not cause a fall.
Stubbies - Short poles used to set out training courses for ski racing. Being shorter than full size poles stubbies help the ski racing athlete to get used to skiing closed race courses without having to block poles out of the way.
