Early evening and after the last check, we noticed a new minor default on another part of the cable. Safety being the number one priority of the Compagnie du Mont Blanc, we decided to close the operation for a complete change of this cable.
- The 2nd section cable car Plan de l'Aiguille - Aiguille du Midi will be closed to customers from tomorrow morning, Monday, June 4th onwards.
- The 1st section cable car Chamonix - Plan de l'Aiguille will remain open to visitors and climbers until Sunday, June 17th at night and then closed to carry out the change of the cable.
The operation will then resume entirely on both sections, from Chamonix to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi on saturday, July 7, 2018 in the morning.”

**Update**
- The 1st section cable car Chamonix - Plan de l'Aiguille closed yesterday evening for the cable works.
- The Planpraz gondola on the Brevent side of Chamonix will open tomorrow, Tuesday 12th June.

We are delighted to inform you that the work to replace the cable of the second section of the Aiguille du cable-cars is on schedule.
Thanks to the efforts of all concerned, we are pleased to announce the re-opening of the first section of the cable-car (Chamonix – Plan de l’Aiguille) as of Saturday 30th June 2018.
The re-opening the Plan de l’Aiguille – Aiguille du Midi cable-car is planned for Saturday 7th July. We will keep you informed as soon as possible."

Bit embarrassing for the cable manufacturer at the moment I’d imagine!
But having a the same prob appear after only a few weeks sounds likebthey didn’t fix the underlying issue

@under a new name, yes but at least they spotted it, the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about. It’s a long long walk down for anyone caught up there and it could be a few at the height of the season.

Wow, the twitter clip looks bad.
if you look at the webcam at 1.30 there is nothing.
1.40 a bit of smoke and some blokes on the roof with fire extinguishers.
1.50 a lot of smoke and no-one on the roof anymore.
Webcam stops updating after that but a pic off Facebook shows flames out of roof.

Planet Chamonix on facebook have shared a video clip and the whole place is properly ablaze. Let's hope the employee wasn't seriously injured and evryone got out okay.

Yep, I pinged them a Whatsap to get it up after your post and it hitting Facebook. Not that they needed my help to spot it, I'm pretty sure the big plume of smoke alerted them.

Aiguille du Midi tram in Chamonix closed until Dec 2018. Cable problems.
Grands Montets tram in Argentiere closed until 2019 / 2020. Big fire.
Been a bad month for the valley.
