@duncansarmy, honestly relax. I have 14 members of my family coming over on sunday and monday, if anyone should be tearing their hair out at the thought of 14 miserable people slumped about the place it should be me. But I am really not worried.
No you cannot ski Morzine BUT you can ski in Avoriaz and it is MUCH better than last year and far less crowded. Last year the mayor would only issue daily passes to people who could prove they were staying in Morz/ Avoriaz as everyone from 74 region was coming here.
There is plenty to do in town as well as ski, there are some fantastic restaurants for the evenings and there are already some good gigs lined up next week. Also don`t forget the fireworks on christmas eve, ice hockey match on 23rd (GO PENGUINS) and lots of other bits and bobs as well as skiing

@Nadenoodlee,
Any idea whether there will be restricted passes? I haven't heard anything but the whole of the local 74 region will be arriving for sure and the skiing, whilst loads better than last year, is still a little limited.

@zzz, I haven`t heard anything about restricted passes, there is so much more open this year than last including the link to Chatel, so I can`t imagine they would.

@mihaid, I`m not sure what you`re trying to get at but Avoriaz looks fine to me for a resort that hasn`t had freshies for a while. Morzine isn`t opening - I thought everyone knew that? Where are you skiing?

Does anyone know if the lift passes are reduced if only so many lifts are open? That link says only €99 for 6 days, i've paid at least double that.
Any help much appreciated.

Suspect that is Morzine sector price only, rather than full PDS?

Nope, 6 day Morzine only is €199,see here... http://www.morznet.com/ski-passes/ That link above states €99.

Les Gets will refund the difference automatically onto the card that purchased the passes.

Well I seem to have been taken away with the general euphory of the earlier snow dump and how this was going to be MUCH better than last December that to look at the current state make one despondent. That's all.

Well it's bloody confusing tbh, i'm staying in morzine with a indy chalet company and got a 6 week deal on ski pass (leg gets/morzine) with the ski school, all of which they're sorting out for me. Indy company have told me we'll be skiing avoriaz. I was happy thinking there wouldn't be much difference either way in cost, but now i've seen that it looks like they've reduced the price of ski passes i could end up worse off. Hmmm

@duncansarmy, it does sound a little confusing for you. The Les Gets lift pass for next week for six days is 120 euros, and Morzine only is 99 euros, but the price you had looked at and probably paid of 199 euros was when all was expecting to be open.
And now you are to ski in Avoriaz, as your ski school must consider that will be better, but as all booked through your chalet company no doubt they will be sorting it all out for you and you will probably end up with a PDS pass or an Avoriaz only pass, if they are selling that this year for this unusual period. Well at least you will be skiing.

@duncansarmy, Confusing indeed but I think you have got the better deal with Avoriaz as there is MUCH more open there. The Morzine special lift pass is only cheap because of the reduced opening.

@duncansarmy, and as you say your chalet company is sorting it all out you can relax and let them do all the running about for you changing passes etc. Everyone will be falling over themselves to make sure it all goes as well ss it can.

@duncansarmy, looking at what is open in Morzine you will have skied it all in half an hour. If you end up paying a little more it will be worth it.

@Nadenoodlee, no, Farnham for Christmas Day, and then we drive down on Boxing Day, overnight at Val Moret, and arriving on 27th with grown up children and the small people following on behind that day and early hours of the next. We have left the chalet all set up for it to be let, and luckily no let next week so I will not be fretting about dissatisfied guests.

Thanks for all the help folks. I've just been told that part of Morzine will be open and that is where our lessons will be. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Guessing i may as well get a PDS pass so we can head over to Avoriaz or Les Gets also?

@duncansarmy, yes a PDS pass will keep your options open, and even, heaven forbid, you went to some of the other places, not to ski, but to have a bit of a look that could be worthwhile.

@duncansarmy, bus/drive to Ardent, take the gondola followed by Chaux Flerie chair and you are there. Alternative via Super Morzine gondola, faff over to Avoriaz, ski down to Lindarets and Chaux Fleurie chair. That was the Les Combes piste from the top of Linga I think. Didn't look too bad.

A bus to Ardent is definitely the best option at the moment. I don't think the connection from supermorzine will be ready next week. There is still some really good skiing to be had. Will post some tips over the weekend

Objection your honour. Entirely subjective. There is skiing available. I'd argue it's not really good, unless of course you are a ski instructor and therefore in the business!

How about for beginners. I looked at interactive map and Proclou and Combes de florets are both closed. We are based in Avoriaz and our daughter is 4 yrs and 10 months this is her 3rd season and she just cracked the Super Morzine blues and Combes de florets end of last year, I want to build her confidence in the first few days. I am worried that the blues above Stade and Lac Entrets might be a step to far straight back into it for her. I am also worried Mossettes might be a bit too much as well.
Am I missing something, any other good blues to build her confidence. We normally default to Super Morzine runs to get her started.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't think the conditions are poor. I was here last Christmas and there is more open this year than last.
I enjoyed some good skiing today on pistes which were in really great shape considering there's been no snow for about two weeks.
You can see from @jjc's video above that there's good skiing to be had.
But suits me if folk want to stay away

For what its worth I think we all have different expectations on conditions, runs etc.
As a parent I have always taken the view that ski-ing is akin to dropping £20 notes down the street - bl**dy expensive but too exhilarating to care & as such we have always opted for full resort passes.
I have to admit though on more than one occasion this strategy has not been cost effective as we had kids in ski school - but it gave us options - that has always been my view.
