Interesting, I would expect large chalets prices to drop or being converted into freehold apartments , apart from the post brexit difficulties with running Chalet Companies these days (not able hire cheap gap year labour and having to abide with national working hours etc etc) but surely a few Russian properties will be hitting the market soon ?

@Bigtipper, next season is going to be more expensive because of inflation.
This thread was started by a troll, who was predicting the collapse of Sterling, confidently predicting sub parity in the exchange rate. It's periodically revived to poke fun.

More a case of the Euro losing ground against the Dollar (and Sterling). Dollar at a 2 year high against the Euro I believe as investors seek a safe haven.

Yes, definitely investors seeking a safe haven. Although the Euro has lost ground against Sterling it's interesting that the CHF in the last few days has gained against Sterling (and from a purely parochial viewpoint makes Swiss ski trips even more expensive).

Is that because of the huge amounts of Oligarc money being transfered to "safe" Switzerland before we can seize it?

Hmmm, personally I don’t see this to be the only driving factor for the Swiss franc rally. If this was true, the pound would be plummeting against dollar and euro as the Oligarc money leaves the UK due to concerns about sanctions. The Swiss franc rally of about 8 years ago was because they removed the euro peg, the Swiss Franc was seen as stronger then and is probably still seen as a safe haven now but it’s not the only factor.
I think there are wider concerns about the euro, and this Is more the reason for the drop in value, there’s probably a few factors to consider. Russia is obviously a concern but for different reasons than Russian money leaving the eurozone, more likely because EU manufacturing is so heavily reliant on Russian resources and this will dampen economic outlook for them for certain. The economic impacts of the Russia crisis are not fantastic globally, but the EU is set to suffer far more than US and a bit more than the UK. Additionally, ECB are looking like they are less keen on interest rate rises and this will will further hold back the euro. The EU have also been hammered harder than most by covid and this is yet another factor contributing to a weak euro.
Longer term (5 years plus) I would say the economic outlook for the EU is reasonably bleak, that said, I’m not much more bullish on the UK outlook.

Chuff / Euro parity for a few days now.
Is it being pegged by the Swiss banks, or is inversion on the cards ?

The peg was abolished in 2015. So not pegged, rather (probably worse) than that, manipulation by Swiss banks. This has been going on since 2015.

British Pound Risks Crisis Usually Seen in Emerging Markets, Bank of Amercia Warns
Today Forex is £1 to 1.17 Euro. That's 15 percent HIGHER than you predicted.
As regards this seasons prices in the Arlberg, ski pass 20% lower, Hotels 10% higher, Aperol Spritz at the Hotel Krone Lech 17 Euro 20% higher, Pizza meal was super expensive 90 Euro for 2 of us (did include bottle of champagne though). However I saved a fortune by using RailJet from Zurich rather than car-hire, so on balance I saved around £300 t0 £400 compared to my previous visit in 2019.

Well the Euro to USD exchange rate is looking very appealing. No plans to travel across the pond this year. But maybe next winter. Diesel in Western USA is as high as $6.99/gallon in California, and around $5.50 in Oregon and Washington.

Just for the benefits of us Brits, a US gallon is 3.785 litres, so that equates to $1.84/litre in California, and $1.45/litre in Oregon and Washington. At current exchange rate (£1=$1.25) that works out at £1.47/litre and £1.16/litre respectively. The RAC are showing an average UK diesel price of £1.83 /litre. So UK prices are only about 25% to 60% higher than those US prices, which historically seems a relatively small increase, as when I travelled in the US over the last few decades I gained the impression that US filling station prices were at least half those of UK ones, if not even less!

Best provide a bit more information, @Sarny if you want targeted responses. What sort of accommodation, what sort of skiing, what sort of "entertainment". Even tiny places you never heard of will have "a couple of bars in the town". Will you drive there, fly and rent a car, or take a transfer, want a package? Do you put a premium on ski in/out? Anybody needing lessons?

Catered, fly and get transfers, i was close to lifts, easily walkable so under 300m or something.
And you say bars, I went Selva this year and It had maybe 3 bars but two were dead, which completly shocked me, and thats a big place, so I thought it was a given having a couple of bars which would open late and have some atmosphere but in fact, its not!

@Sarny, this thread is a long running thread (began July 2016) about the effect of the £ post Brexit and ergo the cost of skiing holidays for Brits becoming relatively expensive. Most people now ignore it for obvious reasons.
If you are looking for a specific advise about ski resort ideas best to start a new thread. Sorry if this sounds harsh but so far your criteria sounds too general. January is snow sure but low season so the world is pretty much your oyster. Large resort (if you are talking about the actual town you are staying in) would bring in all the standards like Val D'Isere, Ischgl, Verbier. So if you start a new thread best to try and be more specific.
