Thanks for that Lou, I am going next weekend and have become a compulsive weather watcher, and really would like there to be snow.

El_Quince, Friday transfer with our clients took a long time. Left GVA at 10.00, Meusy L'Edelweiss Bar, Tanninges Bar Central, Morzine Coupe de Coeur.
Finally arrived at Le Morzenettaz at 16.00. Very relaxed. No I did not drink alcohol en route, but the craik was fun.
Has to be the slowest transfer ever.
Had a little slide around today and they have opened a lot more than usual for this week. Chavanette and the link over to Plain Dranse too and although a little hard packed (and obviously cannon snow in places), it was fine. And snowing all day, just a very fine drizzle but it softened it up enough to be pleasant. Vis was naff, but hey !!
Called in to see Bengt & Genet in Lidarets bowl (used to run Pom de Pin restaurant next to Passe Montagne). They have returned to run the small restaurant beside those two, now called Mamo's. If you used to know them in the old days call by and say hello.
This year we booked an apartment privately and booked our own transfers. So no faffing around with coaches and we were in Avoriaz in time to get our skis sorted and out on the slopes.
As it had been snowing for a while when we got there, the pistes were in good condition, although in places slightly icy. I expected patchy coverage but it looked almost as good as when we left last January. There were a few more pistes open than were advertised, Combe a Floret was pretty busy. It's looking good for next week I think, although limited to Avoriaz area, none of the links to other areas are open, AFAIK.
A pass for today was €15 and I think it's the same for tomorrow.
We're floundering a bit as to what pass we need - is it possible to get a pass for Avoriaz only?
Will try and get some pics up tomorrow.
chaney, hope you have a fantastic trip! Looking forward to seeing the photos! Starting to get more excited by the day for my trip at the end of Jan!!

Lou, very light snow yesterday, more snizzle really. Pistes very hard and icy, combination of frozen stuff and man made snow. Wx is pretty grotty, lots of cloud and v.cold. In fact not pleasant at all.
Pleney largely green so not a lot of skiing there, ditto Les Gets, but hey, who'd ski there anyway
No sign of any snow, just decreasing temps. Max -8c on thurs, min -18c

In Avoriaz it was glorious sunshine this morning. This afternoon it was mainly enveloped in cloud, visibility went from poor to awful and back to reasonable.
This manifested itself as very fine snow, which occasionally got heavier, but enough to give another covering.
I actually think the pistes are in pretty good condition, yeah, a bit icy in places after the sun disappeared.
I dunno, zzz must be fussy
Pistes were relaitively quiet today and should be even more so tomorrow when all the locals have sodded off back to work
Anyway, see for yourselves:
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

brrrrrr chilly here today. Mountains looking nice & white and reports back are that the northfacing slopes (pre la joux to Avoriaz) are all in pretty good condition. I'll be heading out for a ski tomorrow so will update folks when I'm back.

We were up for the weekend and had a hoot. It was the ski test weekend so that coupled with the bad vis on Saturday and the 1st day back on the skis for some made for some interesting carnage and blood wagon useage!
Sunday for whatever reason was quieter and the weather in the morning at least was awesome. The runs off Le Forret and Le Choucas were a lot of fun. Loads more open than I thought would be possible and we even got over into Plaine Dranse but after a day trialling different skis my legs were shot and we headed home.
Sure it was more to testing the Movement Sluffs but it's the best fun I've had in, oh, about 8 months!
I am out in Avoriaz on 10th Jan and am watching this thread like a hawk
Right think it's time i did some work.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Skied today in Avoriaz and can report that the snow on piste very nice and wintry. No real icy patches to speak of. The temps are staying cold so lots of snow making occurring. Most snow below 1600m ish is man made.
There's a reasonable amount of skiing open for the time of year. My only concern for those coming out next week is the hordes that will be bussed in from the likes of Bernex, Praz de Lys, Chappelle D'Abondance, Les Gets etc.
zzz, I am confident that nobody will need bussing in from LG. Morzine maybe

I hope you are right Lou, its starting to look ok in LG.

This all seems a bit negative. Here are our pictures from today. For those interested:
Went up the Ardent telecabine, then the Chaux Fleurie, traversed towards the Mossettes until we hit the GR5
Then put the skins on and continued the traverse.
Saw some wildlife
There is the Mossettes
Had a bit of a skin issue so Carl plodded on valiantly - I carried his skis
more to follow...

Looks horrible, endlessride. Do you think there will be snow in Avoriaz in January?

Although I appreciate that you have endowed me with a God like status, I believe your trust is misplaced.

Here he comes, only 5 minutes behind us
It's nice when the Mossettes is closed, not too busy
Carl still has the legs for some nice powder turns..
Here we are back on the blue run to Linderets, just before we dropped into the (freezing) fog.
We started on the lifts at 10.30, were back at the cars at 2pm, we took it very slowly, the skin problem took up about 1 1/2 hrs!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Looks nice G. Was there not enough snow to ski back down Mossettes?

It was "fine", very nice in fact. We didn't hit any rocks. Still thin though, all the bumps from the drainage ditches are still evident. We went down past the button.

endlessride, those photos look great! I'm heading for Portes du Soleil in early Jan myself and can't wait! I'm considerably lazier, and hope that lift in the photo is up and running by the time I arrive! I know this is off topic and I apologise in advance but what camera are you using? I'd like to document the adventures of Avoriaz and beyond!
BergenBergen, NOW it is snowing in Geneva. Big Flakes!

Hi all, nice pics endlessride. While you were doing things the hard way, I spent a lovely 2-3 hours being carried around by the lifts. We skied Pre La Joux, Linderets, Avoriaz up to Haut Forts and back. Conditions on pistes were excellent - a bit icy in places but that's just to keep you on your toes.
And even better, we woke up to snow falling this moring, and it is still falling!
And even better than that, don't want to jinx it put the charts are looking quite promising for the 21st Dec onwards!
