Hi all,
we are looking forward to our vacation in fieberbrunn last week of january. We are coming to Salzburg - are there any transfers from Salzburg airport to fieberbrunn for a reasonable price?

I find hire car better value if you've got two or more to share.
I've also done a one way hire, dropping the car off at Zell am See. This options gives you day in Zell, with a bus ride back to Saalbach etc. The Viehofen piste last year didn't go all the way to the road the bus takes, someone may know if it's been finished for this year - means you can nearly ski from Zell am See to Saalbach ski circus.

@Nitro, According to the Holiday Shuttle website (www.holiday-shuttle.at), they do transfers to Fieberbrunn, as well as the rest of the Ski Circus. If there are at least three of you, it's probably worth booking a private transfer, rather than the shuttle service. If any clarification is needed, give them a ring. You could also ring Taxi Rainer (one of the consortium of taxi firms that run the Holiday Shuttle) on 00 43 6541 6261.
There are also taxi firms who advertise Salzburg transfers on the internet - Austria Taxis is one that springs to mind - and you could contact a few of them and see how good a price you can negotiate. You're likely to be quoted EUR 150 each way, but you might be able to shave something off that. I'll also ask around and see if I can come up with anything better.
@Keith_b, You can ski all the way down from the Schmittenhohe to Viehhofen. I think that they're making a point of it now on the Zell am See website. I know people who've done it, and they're not all especially good skiers. Whether it's actually "pisted" in the normal sense of the word I doubt, but I believe that you join a forest track soon after leaving the piste at the mid-mountain point. I wouldn't recommend doing it with luggage though

Heaps of snow round Saalbach at present. Pistes are in very good condition. Chicken is good too.

@nitro, I have booked a taxi from salzburg to Saalbach for my visit in a couple of weeks. €135 each way with www.salzburgtaxi.eu. I have used them the last couple of years.
Personally I think if there are 2 of you, the extra €20 pp v the holiday-shuttle is worth it, particularly on arrival day if you are able to catch a little slope time that afternoon, as the taxi is quicker.
Have used holiday shuttle many times aswell so certainly recommend them from cost/service.

Some late night drinking/music places are: Otzi bar, Underbar and Castello, all are in the centre.
Bauers, which is mainly an apres bar, was also still open later on and still busy on the one night we popped in there after dinner
Tatman should be along soon and is the Saalbach expert so will advise on eating places and other bars worth trying!!

@blue&gold, Well done for choosing B&B over half/full board - it will give you the opportunity of sampling many things that others miss, although with such a large group you will have to be organised and book ahead in order to be able to dine together.
I suggest that you PM me your email address, so that I can send you my comprehensive guide to Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
In the meantime, these are my suggestions; others may have their own favourites and discoveries.
Village restaurants:
Schattberg Stub'n (Good menu, family-run restaurant, friendly, efficient service)
Del Rossi (Gorgeous interior, good menu and food, except pizzas - not their speciality)
Kohlmaisstub'n (Nice, traditional Austrian restaurant, good menu/food, the one most likely to be recommended by locals)
Baeckstattstall (Impressive interior, more upmarket feel than some, good menu - specialities spare ribs and fondues, now under new management)
Il Desco - Italian restaurant
Pipamex - Mexican restaurant
Hotel Peter - Iconic, traditional, family-run Austrian restaurant, specialising in steaks and Balkan dishes, proprietor is a magician and founder of Austrian Modern Magic Circle - cross between Benny Hill and Tommy Cooper, presents a weekly magic show to his diners on Friday evenings - very popular, book ahead!
Bobby's Pub - inexpensive, pub grub, tasty, filling dish of the day for 7 or 8 euros, best ribs in town for 9.5 euros, good pizza menu -also burgers/kebabs.
Mangos (only if you like tapas)
Good restaurants requiring transport from Saalbach
Tiroler Buam (at Vorderglemm. Comes highly recommended, good chef)
Heurigenstube (at Hinterglemm. Good food and nice setting)
Knappenstube (at Hinterglemm. Good menu/food. Our usual when dining after the Goassstall apres-ski party, or after night skiing or toboganning)
Lindlingalm (at the end of the valley beyond Hinterglemm. You can arrange a sleigh-ride to get there and return by toboggan)
Spielberghaus (mountain restaurant above Saalbach. You're taken up in a cage on the back of a piste basher and return by toboggan - see https://www.budgettravel.com/article/0411_SkiVillage_32 )
Hecherhuette (above Viehhofen and on fabled piste 68. Very eager to please and will cater for groups. Beautiful, traditional, hut-type restaurant in a lovely setting. Taxi one-way is 40 euros for 8 people by arrangement with the restaurant. Great food and reckoned to do the best steaks and gulasch soup in the valley.)
Maisalm (Slightly elevated location above Saalbach but easily accessible by taxi. Good food. Can toboggan down afterwards)
Mountain restaurants (Pig out at lunch time or late afternoon, and if necessary have a late burger in Bobby's?)
Bergeralm (Good food. Can eat early evening and ski down at twilight)
Alte Schmiede, Astizbraeu, Mama Thresl's Hendl Fischerei (Chicken Man) (All three in same location near top stations of Leogang gondolas. All highly recommended for food and ambience).
Apres-apres-ski (late night)
Bobby's Pub, especially for Spacey's rock guitar show on Mondays and world-class Irish Band "Cuckoo" on Wednesdays.
Underbar - live singer/guitarist every evening, great, lively, Scandinavian atmosphere
Otzi Bar - Spacey entertains on Sundays and Wednesdays. Generally a lively, friendly atmosphere. Good sound system/music. Open till 4.00am
Crazy Deer - new Dutch-run bar. Nice people run it. might be quiet - a bit of an unknown quantity as yet.
Castellos - more of a night club than a bar. Live bands. Popular with young crowd.
Taverne - small night club, popular with young crowd
Kuhstall - very Austrian/German bar with live music and dancing
Early evening (4.00-7.30pm)
Hinterhag Alm (Saalbach's answer to the Mooserwirt or Krazy Kangaruh. Insane place!)
Bergeralm (Happy Hour 3.30-4.30pm - Buy one get one free - is often a pre-cursor to a lively party atmosphere.)
Bauer's Schialm (a very convivial apres-ski venue - can get insanely crowded inside, but okay outside)
Spitzbub (a fantastic apres-ski party scene when Spacey is entertaining on Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Goassstall (Famous apres-ski party venue in Hinterglemm)
Schwarzacher (in Hinterglemm - someone mentioned to me recently that they liked it better than the Goassstall)

The only one of the above I'd question is the Trattoria (Bodega la Trattoria). Shockingly bad service, poor food. just wish I'd looked at TripAdvisor before going in. Apart from that, we had great meals and friendly service wherever we went.
Hotel Peter in the village and Chicken Man on the piste were the winners from our panel of two.

@tatmanstours, I feel terrible at picking you up on a detail but the Tiroler Buam is in Vorderglemm not Viehofen (not quite so far down the valley!) 
The chef is better than good; he is superb. The food is magnificent although the dining room lacks a little atmosphere. The bar, where you can reserve a table, is really atmospheric with excellent service.

to get to the Skyscanner website, from there click on the Hire Car tab and then from there click on the Airport Transfer tab. You should be able to get something for a little over £200 return from Salzburg airport.
They farm it out to different providers, but it all worked out seamlessly for us. Indeed, the return to the airport was early so the driver gave us a gratis tour of the Red Bull Hangar-7 which was nice of him.

@Penry, I only mentioned that one, because people have told me that they've had good pizzas in there. We have always used Wallners, but that pizzeria has now closed  Thanks for your feedback, which I shall certainly bear in mind for the future. The Dutch place at the top of the Dorfstrasse is advertising its pizzas, so it needs to be sussed out.

I would highly recommend the Liebe Heimat in Vorderglemm, nice venue pleasant staff, their Kaiserschmarrn is superb.@honved, one of my favourite places have you come across the Newfoundlander

We have been to the Trattoria regularly for the last few years as the pizzas have been very good although pricey. However, the pizzas on our last visit on Friday were very poor (still pricey). The restaurant appears to be under new management and the menu choice has been significantly reduced.

Hello there, am new to this forum - and have to say the info on this thread is brilliant! We're off to Hinterglemm on the 20th for a week. I've noted the fabled run 68 (think it's 68?), but wondered if there were other tips for quiet blues or quiet easy reds in the whole area? It'll be our fourth week skiing and we like to get around, we've booked a couple of lessons but I'll be honest, we're both a bit rubbish, and I'm a bit of a wuss when it's busy on a slope (too worried about what everyone else is doing to ski properly...  )
Any tips appreciated!

Hi all,
Off to Saalbach for first time in 20 years with OH on 20th for a week, staying at Alpin Resort - looks amazing! Can’t remember much about the resort - looking forward to revisiting.
Quick question for @tatmanstours
I saw brief post taking about Hansi’s for ski hire? Is that thone best option? We’re competent piste skiers and ok off piste and usually like the option of swapping out skis for different conditions, if they arrive, would hansi be ok with that? We also like to try and choose skis based on what’s available in particular hire shops, rather than be preallocated a pair, would it be ok to just turn up to hire or do you need to pre-book!

@neilkav, The answer is "yes" to all your questions. Hansi runs his own rental business and goes out of his way to meet his customers' needs, as well as to beat any price quoted elsewhere. He will also give you a generous discount if you tell him that I recommended you to go to him (no kick-back for me but he does me favours from time to time). All our family, friends and guests go to him.

@Whitty, bluebird day today. Pistes 2a/2b, 62 and 68 (twice) were in absolutely perfect condition - 2b a bit icy lower down but smooth and fast. Just had a gulasch soup at the Hecherhuette - they seem to get better every time I have one

@Nitro, have you looked in to the train bus from airport to salzburg station 2 euros train to fieberbrun @ 20 euro approx time 2 1/4 hrs just done similar to ski amade gastein short break ,no problem and like clockwork, can also be done to zell am see then bus to saalbach just depends on flight times ,trains run frequently

I trust tatmanstours won't mind me posting this but we have had great service over the past two years from Marcel Hagleitner (http://www.sporthagleitner.com/en/), including boot fitting of rather difficult (mates) and hobbit sized (my) feet! I'd be surprised if he wouldn't be willing to adjust our boots FOC even now, three years after purchasing them. There's also the offer of beers / schnaps / coffee whilst sorting things out.
