@kitenski, Ah, never seen that and have skied down to Langen at Easter before now, plenty of spring snow high up usually but down to Stuben off piste that time of year (if wanting to ski all the way down) may be a tad optimistic, we've normally cut off to the right and joined the piste late on, but Dave of the Marmottes introduced us to some fresh lines down to the pylon last year worthy of further investigation early next season, one of my favourite runs that, can get sketchy drop-ins at top sometimes on a big pow day though

Yes, I think 13/14 was a year with horrendous deep instabilities in the snow pack. It gets safe[r] once there's a big enough depth on top of the cr*p, but it needs about 1m+ at least. Then as the snow warms up a bit the whole lot can go even if it has been well skied. The biggest problem in St Anton is the Mattun slopes threatening Steissbachtal, as we all know when that closes it's utter carnage.

@sah, Doesn't have to be carnage but some folks that shouldn't maybe go down there like to throw themselves down Kandahar rather than taking the Galzig lift down - there's not much the lift company can do about that, better that than a huge slip across a busy piste.

@Langerzug, Its a joke isn't it, its clearly been written by people who don't know much about skiing. For me Arlberg is one ski area, folks just stay in different places but ski the whole if they've any sense!

@Markymark29, to be fair, it does say resorts and not areas. Courchevel is very different to Val Thornes, fer instance, as is Lech to St Anton.

@Markymark29, @Dr John,
Telegraph is quite honest about it: "We looked at the stats from the beginning of November to the end of April and compared page views for each of our 100 guides".
So it is about the masses, quantity over quality.
With similar methods, Dutch www.wintersporters.nl comes up with Skiwelt as the best skiarea in the world.
Compared to that, the English have better taste....

Anyone know if there are any busses from St Anton to St Christoph at this time of year? Hatching a plan for Saturday.

@clarky999, There on a break until December.
It easy to hitch a lift. Plan...Hiking up to Galzig?

Must say I'm quite appalled (seriously!) to indeed see there is no public transport whatsoever to St. Christoph, and not even to Lech at this time of year.
There is something very uncivilized about it. The free marketjungle?

@Langerzug, That's great - thanks. Can't wait to sample it in the New Year.
It will be brilliant to go to Lech and new lift connections to both Warth and St Anton since the last time I was there

Thanks!
Yep, exactly - up to Galzig and down Kandahar probably, but we only have one car so the shuttle is a bit problematic! Depending on snow Thursday/Friday ay even just head round to Alpe Rauz and up to Schindler, but we'll see!
Saying that I've given enough people lifts in the other direction over the last two years so I'm probably due some hitching karma!

Thanks for the info - sounds like a little less than over here then. Will wait and see if wePowder get the next storm right before committing (Arlberg currently looks like it should get more from that one).

Getting mildly giddy, plenty of photos from local FB friends who've been up there yesterday, looks like an awesome start to the season, hope it stays cold over next 2-3 weeks and it forms a solid base on cold ground rather than as in last 2 seasons where its been decidedly weak base layers.
Only about 38 training days left.....
