@chocksaway, Excellent information.
It looks white. That is a GOOD color.
So, if people want to, could meet around 4 or 5 in the Alpaka? I do hope we get there early enough on Sunday to get a few turns in. It's all so stressful packing up the house, kids, husband and dog for 3 weeks + getting house ready to rent out on AirBnB - which is what I do to subsidize my ski habit.

Not sure if the is the correct section, but can I ask about lift passes please? We arrive Jan 9 afternoon. Can we go buy lift passes in the afternoon to start from Jan 10 or will we have to wait till Sunday Morning? We will buy them online if so.

@NE1, they open late on Saturdays so you can buy (or collect) up to the early evening.

Would advise that you buy on Sat night mtsuit at:
- Main tourist office (Maison De Tignes) in Le Lac.
- Tourist office in Val Claret.
- Ticket office next to Grande Motte funicular.
Val Claret office didn't open until 9am - so I queued for about 20 mins at Grande Motte office last Sunday morning. Everyone in front took an age (staff photocopying paperwork; opening out piste maps etc etc) - all very frustrating on a sunny day .

We certainly will. Looking forward to our weekend, especially after seeing the photos posted by @mountainaddict.
Just finished packing. Can't believe how much stuff we still need for a long weekend. First attempt was over the weight allowance but but a quick check showed my boots, 5.5kg, and our bindings, around 6kg, were the culprits. My boots are now in my hand luggage so the problem is solved.

@Gaza, "my boots, 5.5kg, and our bindings, around 6kgs"
Switch to pin bindings Dynafit Race bindings? One pair weighs in at a hefty 110 g
More realistic Rad 2.0 FT comes in at 630g for the pair
The tech boots would usually be lighter too - allowing you to squeeze it all into the hold allowance...

Yet another day of unbroken sunshine in the Espace Killy - just a little breeze to make it feel a little chillier. With yesterday's few cm and a lot of new artificial snow (the cannons were running all morning in La Daille thanks to the slightly lower temperatures than recently) the pistes have had a freshen up - but overall they are a little harder than recently in the Bellvarde and Palet sectors. The slopes seemed quieter today - the Spanish short holiday is over. Preparations for the mens races this weekend are well underway and most of the runs down to La Daille are now closed to prepare for the ladies in 10 days time - so I suspect it will get a bit 'skaety' (if that's how you spell it!!) down that one run. But sitting outside the Rosée was again a springlike experience - must remember to carry my baseball cap
I had an early finish as I had promised to translate the minutes of a meeting for a friend - another new roof in Tignes, its not so much the language but the procedures that are a minefield for the property owner out here. I have then invested in a pair of touring boots, which seem to have more buckles and adjustments so might have to have a practice in privacy - so I avoid looking like a numpty tomorrow - I have to ski them before the inners go in the oven tomorrow afternoon for the next stage of the fitting.
As for the weather, after a few early clouds vanish it will be another day like today, the high pressure is set to dominate so the weekend and Monday will be mostly sunny, with a drop in temps on Monday (A bit of a change from yesterdays forecast). The unsettled weather will arrive On Tuesday, accompanied by higher winds. The current forecast shows us getting a bit of snow on late Tuesday, but confidence on the actual track of the storm is only moderate,, if it moves 70 miles south there could be a lot more, likewise if it moves north we will be relying on the snow cannons.

Conditions getting better. The light snow of yesterday plus the colder temps (so the cannons have been working) are helping to build up the base. Luckily the slopes are quiet.

@chocksaway, once again, great information.
We'd do well to get up there as early as we can Sunday. Have to hit the ski shop first though... need to have these poles shortened to the length they were meant to be. 120 cm poles are actually 127 cm. And need a pair of ski's tuned and binding adjusted. Then we're good to go.
It will likely be 5 pm before we leave Amsterdam, don't expect traffic. Google maps says 11,5 hours Maybe we will drive through the night... let the non skier drive and let the skiers sleep.
Ski Sunday and Monday, and plan to swim when the poor weather comes in.

@stewart woodward, Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
I've moved on.
Also, oddly enough, with age, if visibility is poor, I have no balance. I've been skiing since I was 10 years old, and I skied no matter what, first one up, last one down. Literally, my father worked one day a week on Ski Patrol, and we'd sweep the mountain with him, but nowadays, I can't handle the poor visibility... and as with age, I can't ski a whole day anyway - makes no sense

Too true. That would be my choice, too. Sweating with a load of other naked sweating people, or sitting with them in a bacteria soup does nothing to make me feel well.

another vote for the Alpaka , we first found this I guess 14 years ago when we stayed next door in L'Avachet [think it was called] it was a Crystal catered chalet. Every time we stay in Le lac/Tignes we always make this our favourite apres bar - just nice!
One day we will book & use this as our base, when the kids have taken their leave

Question for the people that know.
Distance from Tignes to airport Geneva vs. Grenoble
Non skier needs to make a day trip back to the office, can do either Geneva or Grenoble, but flight times etc, slightly more convenient from Geneva. Is the trip to the airport the same, or what difference should I factor in when assessing the two options.
He'll drive himself, park at the airport, fly up and back and drive himself back.

You know it makes sense.

Grenoble is 2 hours and 45 minutes and you are unlikely to meet a traffic jam, the parking is cheap midweek, there is no lounge - just a shed really. Geneva is 3 hours midweek, you require a vignette for the motorway or be very confident on the back roads and more likelihood of a delay, parking is expensive at Geneva but the lounges are nice.
PS For Grenoble from Tignes - don't head to Grenoble city. After Albertville head for Chambery and Lyon and then turn off the motorway A43 after Chambery on to the A48 then the D119.

The 1000 euro question. Chambery is also a shed, but is 2 hours from Tignes and the parking is free. However, it is a fair weather airport with a limited instrument approach facility so if the weather is bad (on average twice a season) then chaos ensues, especially if it is a Saturday.

In the last couple of minutes the following 4 lifts have been added to the live lift status page with the magic phrase ouverture demain (open tomorrow): Sache Bubble (from Brev), Boisses Bubble, Aiguille Rouge and Aiguille Percee.
Top tip for those in the 2 Bs - inspect the slopes from the bubbles on the way up - make a decision and stick to it - if you commit to Brev and its bad from just round the corner its a long way down - especially if they are your skis

The easiest would be a bus back to Geneva Airport and then the Altibus or Bens Bus from GVA to Tignes.

Just a few high clouds above the Espace Killy today but they dispersed mid morning to give us another fine spring like day. As it was cooler last night both resorts had been running the snow cannons hard to help maintain the pistes. They are still hard below about 2500m - above that much better (except for exposed ridges). The long distance views from the Top of the Grande Motte were just stunning.
A little busier today with a much higher 'muppet qouta' exemplified by an event on boarding the Lanches Chair - which regular visitors will know has 4 seats and no standing room. Tigski and Steve were all lined up ready to go when 5, yes 5, ladies pushed through the gates and tried to get on. Now 5 lasses and 2 lads might be good odds in Jacks Club but not on 1 Lanches chair.
Meanwhile after a quick lunch I was trying the new touring boots going uphill on the skins on the morthwest face of the Rosset watching them load huge weights onto the chairs ahead of testing - so another few days...
Not so good news is the news on the Funi, after the technical failure on Sunday. The estimate seems to be 3-4 weeks so possibly into the New Year - Lanches is going to be busy.
Tomorrows weather will be just like todays - so good for watching the Mens Racing tomorrow on face de Bellvarde, there will be a few more clouds on Sunday which should go away for Monday. Now beyond that the forecasters have little confidence in the forecast - the track of the fronts is uncertain - today they think we will be in for showers on Tue and Wed with the vital snow level being around Le Lac by day and Boisses by night. After that it will remain warm for the time of year and the sun will return.
For those flying tomorrow, it will be wet over the UK and it will be quite windy from Newcastle southwards - so a bumpy ride can not be ruled out. There is a slight chance of brief snow showers at Leeds in the morning. Over here the forecast is a little more complicated, Geneva is definitely forecasting fog early morning clearing by lunchtime, which may lead to the odd delay. Grenoble, Lyon and Chambery are all forecasting a 30% probability of fog patches, which, if they happen should not affect flying at Grenoble and Lyon, but if they pitch up at Chambery there will be problems - but its only a 30% chance, at the moment.
As a final thought we are just having a fabulous sunset

What is this about the funival? Is it knackered? Spent 40 mins on the Borsat this afternoon when it conked out. First time out since Tues due to dodgy knee. And yes, you guessed it, it does not like being bent for long periods. Not a great start to season for the EK lift companies. Whatever happened to preventative maintenance?
