@ajc2260626,
I imagine they should both benefit being in the Northern Alps but St Anton may get a bit more. StAnton due to get 10-20cms in the next day or so as well.

@Crispyapplepie, it's dropped quite a bit compared to what the forecast was on Bergfex for the 13th. Fingers crossed though eh! Few other forecasts still showing promising signs but way to far out yet I suppose.

Both GFS and ECM showing promise for the mid third of January this evening for the western Alps (as well as more for the east). The big divide remains north v south with the southern side still looking much drier.
Snowing steadily in Saalbach at the moment.

Is a stretch a wide or narrow margin?

Pretty narrow in this instance, was more quoting St Anton may do better, not the use of the word 'stretch'. But exact snow depths will vary and this may change.

@ajc2260626, It's another 3 and a bit hours each way. Pistes in Verbier are excellent, but not much off piste and none of the itineraries are currently open. This week's snow may make a bit of a difference.

If you do, there are good & cheap accommodation options on the west side of the Arlberg...Stuben, Langen, Klosterle, Wald, Dalaas...gets cheaper as you move away. Good access to the new lift at Alpe Rauz for access to Zurs & Lech, as well as the Albona, Sonnenkopf & Valluga. Dead of an evening though.

Interestingly checking webcams it has snowed more in the valleys than higher up - probably the pm10s acting as nucleates. Maybe 1-5cm in the French N.A. depending on altitude and latitude. Good for the man-made stuff and at least it looks like winter now.

Nice! Overnight snow here too - 10+cm in the city at 600m. Nordkette should be great right now - I'm told there's solid skiable base down to Hungerburg at 860m (at least on the meadows/old pistes, probably not in the trees).

Just in from skiing here in Chatel and we got around 10cm or more overnight, temps are way milder now at around -1 or -2. After reading yr and expecting 4/5 the extra snow was a nice surprise. Conditions on the piste really are decent now and no people about to share them with either, which is helping massively. Still going to need 30cm plus to get access to more of our off piste terrain. So happy to be skiing soft grippy snow! Time to get back out there now, looking like it will be a warm afternoon some of the snow is burning off a bit in the sun.

Hey guys Zermatt is always on the edge of these snow maps and really hasn't gotten much from all these recent storms. How are they looking this week? I arrive Friday and have been thinking hard about switching to St. Anton but might have to pay hotel cancellation fees. Flying into Zurich from USA. Thanks.

@Gnipgnop, If you pop over to the Tignes thread, I have put a lot of detail as to what we are expecting in our own little bubble up here in the E-K, in summary unsettled and highly unpredictable (or unforecastable - if that is a word)

Zermatt is due 6-12 inches of snow next week, which will freshen up the onpiste. But it has less than half its lifts open, so is still struggling.
St Anton has just over half its lifts open, so is in slightly better shape. But still having a bad season, also.

Seems both are going to get consistently snowy weather for the next week with fronts blowing in from the NW
|

Yeah, that's a bit misleading. Both resorts are over 70 % open in terms of pistes, arlberg has had much more fresh snow recently but zermatt has plenty of snow bedded down on piste at least
