FlyingStantoni, wow, how interesting. We had a very nice day in Les Houches yesterday - the morning involved some nice side piste powder and the pm involved top to bottoming the prarion at warp speed 11. We'd decided (wisely) to avoid the Brevent due to cloud cover. Pistes as the FlyingStantoni, alludes are excellent, side-off-pistes lovely. But no evidence of wind burn or excessively loaded slopes. That said, per zzz last week, we didn't get as much snow over here as there.

Skied the Morzine and Les Gets side today. As for Avoriaz, the pistes have great cover. They were a tad icy this morning due to overnight melt-freeze, but there's not a bare patch to be seen.
The off-piste looks better around Morzine / Les Gets, which might be because it's slightly lower and hasn't caught the wind as much. The slidey bits on the side of Nyon have, well, slid though.
Excellent lunch in Chez Nanon - the Patates au Roblochon; a bottle of excellent read; desert; whatever it is that they give you afterwards and a bit more of it as well.
Most excellent.
Can barely feel the pain in my legs from two hours of short turns down the front of Pleney.

Great start to the holidays. Pistes are perfect and not too crowded.
Spending this week skiing Morzine/Les Gets side as my horrors are in ski school/ski club for the week.
Sunny and cold conditions until the weekend - who could ask for more - well maybe a snowflake on 2 on Xmas Eve/Day would be abuot the only extra to make total perfection!

Brass monkey weather on the Morzine / Les Gets side. I don't really understand why, as it was only -3.5 at the top of Pleney, but for some reason it felt much, much colder. Sort of how London would feel if it were -3.5.
I wear a layer less for telemarking than I do for alpine. That was a big mistake today as I was chilled through by the time I got to the bottom of the mountain.
I'm not saying it's icy, but MrsFlyingStantoni swears that she saw Torvil and Dean pirouette past on the way to Nyon.
My favourite sign of the day - Piste Verglas. You can't fault the accuracy.

Hi from Les Gets, yep it's certainly icy as the shiner on my thigh is reminding me this morning but very good skiing. Forecast is to remain cold and bright. Snow cannons going on main pistes back to village and haven't seen any bare patches anywhere. Mont Chery good as ever, lovely & quiet.
mrsFlyingStantoni was right they did a triple toe loop right in front of me causing me to catch an edge on the way to the Rosta lift.
Lots of people arrived in resort yesterday as you would expect so hopefully will get swallowed up on the mountain and not make queues too much longer..... have been great so far.

Sorry to report that the queues have been horrendous here today, worst we've seen on this weekend over last few years. Quite a few trauma calls too by the sound of it, ambulances & helis v busy this afternoon

-12 on the comedy weather station this morning. The first signs of frost nip when I took my boots off at the end of the day - despite two extra layers. Time for some boot heaters.
We met up with geepee and Horizon today for a bit of a mini tour - Avoriaz, Linderats, Crozets, Fornet bowl, Plaine Dranse, Linga and back.
Generally good cover everywhere - with the exception of The Stash (stoney) and Rhododendrons (thin cover and badly pisted). Piste conditions ranging from firm to icy - depending on altitude and when the piste was hit.
Queues at the main bottleneck lifts, but generally good humoured and polite. No more than 5-10 minute queues.

Got back yesterday skied Morzine/Les Gets on the weekend 37 euro ticket. It was bloody freezing, car temp gauge was reading -13.5 in the car park Would agree with with above comments, some very icy spots on the way into Les Gets village, I totally wiped out on one run, skis went before I could re-adjust. Propably help if they didn't run snow cannons when to warm and them just dumping cold water on the piste! Lift queues were not as bad as I thought with how busy the car park was on saturday. Snow good on Mont Cherry. Snow forecast for next few days should help the pistes.
Visited the Dublin bar 3 pints £17.50! The bar owner didn't inform us that they sold 1 litre jugs (Stella) for 9 Euros!! Maybe that why it's not very busy. We left after 1 but would have had 2 or 3 jugs if they had told us.

Oh dear muzza77,
I'll be out there in a couple of weeks and hadn't really thought about the impact the exchange rate will have.
At £6 a pint, jugs of Stella seem like a really good idea!
Looking forward to it nonetheless. How are conditions? Is there any skiable off piste or is everything still closed/decidedly dodgy?

Reasonable top up of snow expected over the next 36 hours - hopefully that'll freshen everything up a bit. Won't change the bar prices unfortunately....

Yup the snow has arrived coming down steadily at village level now, after rain, sleet for most of morning.

Certainly has been icy patches I agree but not because of the snow cannons, it's been cold enough to run these.
cardweg, conditions are great esp with new snow, most of which is expected tonight. Very busy but that won't be a problem for you! Was a bit quieter this morning poss because the snow/rain kept the fair weather skiers away?!
Hope to get to a bar tonight so will let you know what we pay and at which one.......

Lou, It was a little strange that all the icy patches on the way into the village where directly under the snow cannons unless there was two boob like bumps of artificial snow on the piste under them.

A somewhat "limited" snow report today...
Zore was in excellent condition all day.
Yep, that's it. We spent all day on one piste doing drills. Good visibility. No lift queues. Highly recommended.

cardweg, just for you ......... Irish pub Guinness €7 Grolsh/Carlsberg & most lagers €5
Woke up to the very pleasing sound of of snowploughs banging & clattering etc in the village It's still dark but at a rough guess I'd say about 4-5 cm at this level.

A very good day's skiing today.
Avoriaz is claiming 30cm overnight, which I feel is a tad optimistic.
The snow has topped the pistes up nicely and we had good piste conditions everywhere we skied today (Linderats, Haute Fortes, Arare, Fornet, Les Crosets). Here's hoping that they piste it well tonight.
The off-piste / snowcross is somewhat hit and miss. Pschott, for instance, has pockets of lovely light powder; wind slab; sastrugi; ice and heavy snow. It certainly adds a frisson to the run as you can't take anything for granted. The snow has also covered up some off-piste hazards you probably don't want to hit - like glide cracks and avalanche debris - so you certainly need to pay attention.
[rant]
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, do some skiers believe that it's at all sensible to ski across some fresh avalanche debris to ski a slope with exactly the same aspect. Without arva gear (not that it makes being there excusable). And alone. FFS.
[/rant]
We realised today that the Crot lift has been taken away I know it was old a grotty, but it was a rather useful shortcut over to Arare.
Will be epic on-piste tomorrow if they piste it well. Oh, yes, this is the PDS and they don't know how to piste

I can see Bouquetin from my apartment and it looks like there's either a glide crack or small avalanche on the steep top section.

Completely agree snowandtrek. I was over in Les Gets this morning doing some training and it was absolutely glorious. We must have lapped Rhodos 8-10 times in an hour and a half.
Bruyere was in the best condition I've ever seen it in outside of a powder day. Not even a inkling of ice.
We had a very, very (very!) excellent lunch at La Paika (next to Vorosses). Probably the best lunch we've had in the area. A whole small chicken, slow cooked on a wood BBQ. Juicy, succulent and, well, absolutely fabulous. At 14 euros it is probably the best value meal we've had outside of Bar Nat.
The cakes looked superb, but (alas) we had no room. MrsFlyingStantoni and I are planning a lost afternoon there...
