tottally awesome, the only place we didn't ride was monetier! thigh high pow in villeneuve, prorell was amazing and we even put first tracks down the aguiette despite the lift still closed.

snowangel., There's lots of confusing information on the Serreche web sites. The lift company site and the tourist office are at odds for starters. How much is really open in terms of lifts and pistes? With the new snow, is the Luc open to the bottom for instance? Are all the links all open?
Your pics certainly look good today!
I'm already booked into the Maeva in Chantemerele in late March(7th year running), but a bunch of us are also waiting for signs of good conditions for a late booking anywhere in Europe for 3rd Feb.
Tonights reports and webcams look like the Southern Alps and Italy have had a good day today, but further North I think that they got far less snow than was predicted.
After tomorrow, most of the forecasts predict nothing for the following week, so the Haute Alpes, Isere or Italy might be our best bet.
I know that you're a tiny weenie bit biased, but how good is it really?
Cheers, Wags

rjwagstaff, i will be totally honest with you. All links are open. The luc and the cass de beouf aren't brilliant (or weren't but might be better after today) but they are open and you can ride to resort. The top of the cass de beouf is, as is normal, closed (it was for most of last year!).
Evenbefore the snow our conditions were not that bad at all, a few more stones than you wanted, a few icy bits but generally very very good and nice piste riding.
today has been totally off piste day, some of the pow was so so so deep but it was all good.
i've just come in and its snowing again and meteo france (which normally gets it right) says snow tomorrow night too.
feel for me i have to drive to work on my quad (not a 4x4 quad unfortunatley) in -10 and snow! Deepest joy!
i think and hope you will be fine in march, i would also say if you want a cheecky weekend away go now! take helen up on the aprtement (i'm full from now till april1! )

snowangel., Thanks for the info. I have to drive 50 miles each way to Milton Keynes tomorrow(as normal) and I won't be going to the snowdome! So your Quad ride sounds positively wonderful to me.
We'll be there in March anyway, whatever the conditions. It's become a tradition that I can't see us breaking. A friend of ours has been going to Chantemerle since the 1970's and has had a timeshare in the clubhotel since it opened. We just try to organise diaries to meet up there each year.
I'll keep a close eye on what happens with the weather tomorrow. My jan/feb holiday seems normally to be in the Tarentaise, but two trips to Serreche would be fine by me.
If you go to the Grotte then throw a pint of lager at Clive for me.
cheers, Wags

snowangel., Why's Aiguillette shut? I thought that the cover would be good there. The runs either side of the chair are two of the best in the resort as it's a bit out of the way and normally so quiet. First tracks must have been good!
Most people seem to miss these two runs so snowheads....SSSSShhhhhhhh

rjwagstaff, Hi, I think we've met in the Serre Che. Are you a friend of Jerry and the others from Watford? Anyway, conditions are fantastic here after the last 24 hours. The 2 runs you speak of are often closed this time of year but usully open before the busy time in Feb. Unless there is a heatwave the snow should be good 'till the end of March. This info comes from someone who has no commercial interest in the valley, in fact, I prefer it if no one visits and the slopes are empty. SorryHelen Beaumont, andsnowangel.,

chris, No, there's no Jerry in our group. The guy who's been visiting Serreche for 30 years is Ian from Fulham. He's always there for 2 weeks in March. Tall, slim guy with a red one piece ski suit and long skinny salomon ski's. Can't miss him.

WayneC, i'm out here now! (and permenantly) We have a friend who is an instructor in clavier and the conditions are ace there so i would assume from that that montgenevre is equally as good.
hope that helps.
conditions up there to day was just beautifull! Blue bird pow day, not too many people in resort so still lots of freshies to have even at 12!
No damage to my baord which was good, lots of trees and lots of off piste.
Didn't ride many pistes but what i did were lovely appart from the luc, as it was very icy but i still got down in one piece despite the 2 glasses vin chaud!

chris, so do i, then i'd get to ride all the time and no work!
rjwagstaff, throw a pint over clive, no problemo! i am in the grotte to often my husband has just quit a job there for a propper job!
Helen Beaumont, good glad to hear it! no one has been put off in fact i just too another booking! Get in!

dandtd, had nothing to stay in the uk for! Had not long got divorced, had (at the time) a very slack x with the kids (he's much much better now we've mooved) A part time job that i loved but was wearing me into the ground (lighting technician in a night club called Fabric doing moving lights and lazers) and a pree teen son who is totally snowboard crazy and really rather good at it (and breaking himself but that is another story!)
So i decided i wanted to start a chalet, preferably catered, where you got a really down to earth friendly service.
I spent winter 2004/05 planning the move and was over here every month for 6 months, we finally moved at the end of March 2005, giving my son 3 weeks of the winter season and the summer to learn french before the hard task of his first full year (and full winter) in a french school. He (luckily) took to it and the french like a duck to water and is now fluent in french although still struggles a bit in his french lessons (but he did get falisitations from his teacher after his brovet at the end of last term for getting 10/40, which for him was very very good) My daughter has found the language harder and still struggles but i think that is her very strong will gettin in the way!
Anyway, I bought the chalet 4 months after moving here and got the mortgage through remortgaging my home in London and renting it out to a friend! Started the catered chalet and here we are today! 2nd year and this year i've booked out 15 out of 18 weeks! Cant complain about that! Eventually we will open the whole chalet up, when i can afford to buy a small apartment for me, my now hubby and the kids, but that wont be for a while yet.
Wow i bet you wish you never asked now hey!!!

snowangel., you need to take the '.' off the end of your link.
I can't get into your site, btw, (firefox 2.0) without switching off my popup blocker, might be a problem for the odd prospective client !
Great story though, good on you.

The big chill that has hit our valley meant that the snow canons could be used. And they have certainly been used! All over there are 10feet high mounds of frozen water. Not always visible in bad light, there doesn't seem to be enough warnings of their whereabouts. It seems strange to see all this artificial now we've got loads of the real thing. The conditions are fab and for the who are heading this way at the weekend, you're going to have a great time.

Soozy, its supposed to snow again on the 4th for a few days. You may see me on piste, i'll be the cheeeky snowboarder pushing in the queues!!!!
it was freezing this morning up there, i did 2 runs and had to go to the cafe soliel to warm up my feet they were frozen stiff!
I have had since then the best day. The pistes are beautiful and there is still plenty of off piste that is untracked. I got the sickest line off the clot gautier drag, was the perfect way to finish a day!
They were still blowing snow on the luc when i came down. they are getting ready for the hoards next week!
I have the best photo take from the top of the clot gautier drag, when i've finally finished tidying this house i'll upload it for you!

Snowangel What a fab photo. I'll definately look out for you. I'm staying at Helen's apartment. From what you are saying, I might stock up on some of the handwarmer teabag thingies. My daughter really suffers from cold hands first thing and then we are subjected her moaning about wishing she was on a summer holiday. We find a couple of handwarmers are enough to keep her going until things warm up a bit.
