Yes we’re actually staying at the Piz Seteur Hut and really enjoying it. We change location on Thursday (heading to Seiser Alm for a couple of days) so unfortunately we’ll miss you. I’m also a random midlander! You’re in for a treat - the snow’s great.

Do any of you lovely people know whether it is possible to upgrade an area pass to the full superski pass for a day? I am going out in Feb to Covara with a mixed ability group who will mostly be happy just skiing the Alta Badia area, but a couple of us might feel like trying the Sella Ronda on one of the days. The Dolomiti website doesn't indicate whether it is possible to do this.

The price of the whole area pass for six days is very little more than the Badia pass anyway
It then gives you lots of options like hidden valley and Marmolada without much pre planning. Sorry don't know if you do it as an add on.

@skiboy91, As Garfield says, just go for the full superski pass from the outset. Day and single lift passes are extortionate pro rata.

Any dollies regulars know how likely the Passo San Pellegrino road will be open from the Venice side on Sunday afternoon (i.e. via Agordo and Falcade)? The weather maps are showing about 30cm in the area on Fri and Sat but much less snow fall on Sunday. I'm coming from Venice to Canazei. The motorway route via Verona ads over an hour and a half onto the journey.
Both the canazei and passo san pellegrino websites refer to the Venice route as a standard access route so I assume they will keep it ploughed, so once not snowing heavily at the time it should be grand? Will prob have 4x4 with winter tyres.

Meteoblue forecasting 40cm of snow from Friday evening. Much colder from here on in, freezing daytimes too.

Pretty much bonanza forecast for the Dollies. Not a bad time to be going on a guided trip!:-
Dolomites eastern southern Alps
Like our weather model, I expect the largest amounts from the Brenta Dolomites to the Julian Alps, with a focus on the southern areas. Here, over half a metre and in the typical Stau areas locally up to a metre of snow could fall, but the snowline will initially be at around 1300-1500 metres, but dropping a bit afterwards. Further north, amounts decrease, to around 20 to 40 centimetres around the alpine main ridge.

Looks like More sunshine from Monday with light winds, subzero temperatures and no doubt dry air giving good skiing surfaces and good visibility.
Before then however Bergfex is forecasting 30cms or more on the slopes. Hopefully the real snow won’t disrupt the skiing too much and it will turn into the best week of the season so far!
Pretty much everything is now open

Don't trust google maps for that kind of stuff, it always sends you over mountain passes that often aren't open in Winter. The route to Canazei goes through Alleghe, Marmolada and then appears to drive functionally along the south side of the Sella Ronda on the SS 641. My guide tells me that that is not a viable route in Winter and I note that the Canazei website sends you over the San Pellegrino pass if coming from Venice. I presume that route along the SS641 is therefore ill advised? It only shaves a few minutes off the San Pellegrino route.

Never driven to the Dolomites, but I know that the bus service from Canazei to Passo Fedaia (Marmolada) does not run during the winter..

Yeah - in fairness it showed traffic going up the pass today, whether skiers or cars slowing down in the snow

If i dont forget i'll tell you tomorrow evening. I live locally (feltre) and am planning to ski or civetta or falcade/san pellegrino tomorrow. I am passing the digital pass signs so will know for sure. Typically it should be fine, but if it is really a dump (+ 50cm) it can take a while for the services to catch up. You will need winter tires for sure because the road going up the pass from falcade is quite steep (15%+) in some spots.

We're off to La Villia again next weekend (14th Jan). We will have a rental car - driving up from Venice.
I realise it's not required for a day out to Cortina, but my thinking is that we can get ahead of the crowds (and secure the route home!) by driving up to Lagazoui/Falzarego, parking there and getting the new Skylift (or whatever it's called) to Cortina. Question - is the car parking up at Lagazoui/Falzarego 'free'? Looks like it might be on Google maps?
We may also take a day out up at Kronplatz. Same question - is the parking at the foot of the Piccolino lift free?

Parking at Falzarego and at Piculin was free when I last went to both. Can’t give you the dates but within last 2-3 years and I would be very surprised if it had changed

That link @albob sent actually has cameras. Looking at them now (dumping) combined with you telling me its 15% at times on the other side I wouldn't be attempting it. Will see how it looks tomorrow. Its also Sunday which may not bode well for road clearing prospects.

don't park at Lagazoui, it's free but is a pain to get back from the top of the Cortina lift. Either use Falzarego or just drive into Cortina where there are several free parking places. Either Pocol where you have a short walk to jump on a piste or chairlift or Tofana is the best, large free car park, toilets cafe etc. lots of runs end there so nice and easy at the end of the day.
Not sure about Piculin but if its pay it will be cheap, maybe 5 or 10 Euros for the day, we did pay in San Vigilo and it wasn't much.

We’ve had a lovely few days on Alpe di Siusi and there’s been lots and lots of new snow. In fact too much fresh snow for me to ski today - way out of my comfort zone with so much fresh and the poor visibility. BUT it is SO beautiful up here and I had a blast snowshoeing all morning. Snowed most of yesterday (lightly), all night and all day today (mostly lightly but still snowing now). Difficult to say how much in total scientifically but based on how far I sank in my snowshoes and how far my pole went down and what the local guide thought, I’d say easily 40cm by 11am and since then there’s been more so maybe 50cm? Anyone arriving this week is in for a real treat. Very sad to be saying goodbye and a little nervous about our drive down the mountain early tomorrow morning (hire car - a Qashqai)! Flight is from Innsbruck to London. We’ve been told that the roads are going to be fine and that if we get stuck getting down we can call the hotel to help!! So that’s ok then!
