The other option is the Kristal at the bottom of the village, was ok when we stayed there about 10 years ago, but recent reviews say that Crystal customers are punted out to the Neu Post for dinner with mixed reviews, some say great and others terrible. Some said they were told they could not use the salad bar. Definitely treated as second or third class diners there.

I stayed at the Rose April 2021 B&B. Room was clean and warm and the breakfast was decent. I'd stay there again as I thought it was good value for money.

Took a drive up to Hintertux this morning, and it did not disappoint!
Queues were non existent, snow was incredible.
Headed straight to the very top, and then down Black 3 to the Schlegeis chair. This run has never been open when i've skied there before. It's certainly not worthy of it's black status in good conditions, so I can only assume it's tricky when there hasn't been 30cm of fresh snow?
Back up, over to the Olperer t bar, and from the top down blue 9 before turning down red 11a to the Lärmstange 2 chair.
We then worked over to blue 13 where we had the unfortunate duty of being the first 2 down it, at 10:40!!
As you can see, it was terrible and barely worth skiing
Up Kaserer 2, then branched right to the far side and down blue 14. I think we were the 2nd people down here, which was a shame, I don't like skiing over 1 or 2 other ski tracks
Then, halfway up Kaserer 2, a new one for me while skiing, I fainted! I'd woken up not feeling 100%, then went out skiing without eating or drinking anything, and think that, plus a mixture altitude sickness got me. The T bar had stopped, and I was starting to feel worse and worse, then the next thing I remember is my mate shouting my name and then me falling over. Fortunately, we were far enough up that we were able to traverse to blue 3 and back down to Tuxer Fernerhaus where I grabbed something to drink and some chocolate for sugar and perked up a bit, before taking the gondolas down to the car park. As we got lower I started feeling better, but not fully right.
I don't suffer from altitude sickness, so I can only assume I have a bit of a virus which mixed with the altitude got me!?
Anyway, back to work tomorrow and no skiing until the weekend now

Great report except for the part about you! Yikes! I'm no MD but that's not altitude sickness in my view. You're up there all the time, you live there, you're already acclimatized, and you said you don't suffer from it. This seems like a classic low blood sugar situation, worthy of a little inquiry as to cause and likelihood of recurrence. You have to do this for yourself, or for us, so the reports keep coming, or for me so you're in form in case I try to track you down when I'm there in March !

@Scooter in Seattle, thanks, yeah altitude isn't usually an issue. The only reason I think it played in to things, is as I took the gondolas down, I felt better and better.
Which is why i'm thinking some illness/virus, with altitude added is what's effected it.
Anyway, being a typical male, i'll not go to the dr's and just carry on as if everything is ok

@Gaz_H, exactly the same, I said to Fran on the walk home, there's a guy on the ski forum.... Enjoy your last couple of days!
So, i've just nipped out for an hour this morning to Gerlosstein. First time i've skied there, and it's great, albeit I could barely see any of it
Perhaps I found it great as there was 20cm+ of fresh snow on the pistes, and I was on the first cable car up, and I don't think there was more than 10 of us up there. It was like having your own private ski resort, I actually only saw 4 of the other people on the slopes, and 3 of those was as I went over the top of them on the Sonnalm chair.
One of the best hours skiing I've ever had!

@swskier, Oh yes! Gerlosstein - underrated! People don't like the slow, old chairs which is why it's quiet.
It was fun skiing in Hochfügen too this morning

Great morning's ski with @Forst today.
Poor visibility, but a decent amount of fresh on top of a solid base made for a fun few hours, before it got really chopped up.
Knee deep just off the side of the piste was great fun too

I started work early this morning, and by the time it got to lunch time, it turned in to the rest of the day being a quiet day. So I clocked off at 3, and caught the last hour of skiing in Zell am Ziller.
Drove over, booted up and on the lift by 3.13pm skiing by around 3.25pm.
Views were a bit average though.

Hello!
We have four days coming up, based in Kaltenbach. Would it be sensible to do two days in Hochzillertal and then 2 elsewhere? Any easy options/recommendations?
Ta!

I'm actually skiing Kaltenbach this weekend for the first time.

I'd like to say Hintertux, the jewel in the Zillertal crown.
However, a bit of a schlep from kaltenbach-stumm
35 minutes train to the Hof another 40 minutes on the bus
But if you get a clear day and have the time well worth it

@swskier, If you get over to Hochfügen call in the shop. I may or may not be there depending on if there is any interest in Ski Friends.
We did the Zillertal Arena tour - Zell, Gerlos, Königsleiten, Krimml - yesterday. There have been some changes since I last did it about 15 years ago. Notably, a warm gondola rather than the freezing chair on the way back.
The views were great

Great day out. Yes the cranky old chair with the corner in it has gone.
Could you finish it properly down the 10? It was closed a couple of weeks ago when we did it, had to download from mid station. Lack of snow apparently but looked perfectly skiable from the bubble. Obviously they've never been Pennine skiing !
I love the Königsleiten and Hochkrimml areas, good skiing and views are something else

@SaraJ, GS training over on the Panorama lift this morning and tomorrow morning. I'll try and get over tomorrow afterwards, depending on where my mate is skiing as he and his wife are over from Rosenheim for the weekend.
@Whitegoldsbrother, looks like it was in top condition when you were here....

Hi, I'm taking the fam to Kaltenbach in Feb. We're staying in Aschau, what's the Valley run to Aschau like? Our hotel is 100m from the end of the valley run. Not sure if there is a lot of poling required or it's just a bit steep at the end as it looks like a black on the map. My fam can ski reds, preferably wide reds. Would just like to know a bit more before I commit to taking them down that way rather a download and bus ride back. Cheers.
