buzz55, yep it's something that I always tell people, too many flat sections for boarders, though if conditions are good the off piste can be excellent
Don't think I'd have rated the area 8/10 for boarding though, maybe a generous 7 but no more, the scenery on the other hand is some of the best in the world

You say 'that area' do you mean Grindelwald only (as per your resort reveiw) or the other resorts too(Wengen & Murren )

Intresting, looks like it will be a single cabin arrangement not a counterbalanced setup

Another monstrosity like the one in Wengen unfortunately. Mind you, I don't suppose it's easy to build a discreet cable-car station.

D G Orf, I assumed it was a single cabin. (I probably read somewhere that it was.....but can't remember!!)

A single cabin with the luggage etc going underneath it in a separate cage.

I've been looking to arrange my second ski trip of the upcoming season for sometime in March (I'll be spending a week in Saas Fee over Christmas ). I was browsing the flights to the Swiss airports, and noticed that Easyjet had some good prices from my local East midlands Airport to Geneva, so I've just today booked a flight departing 13th March (£47.98 return including taxes). Looking at the Swiss railways site, it seems relatively easy to get to the Jungfrau region from Geneva (change at Bern and then Interlaken Ost). Last year I travelled from Basel airport, so I know about the Swiss rail transfer ticket that you can get.
I've yet to arrange accomodation, but I can leave that for a while (last year I stayed in Lauterbrunnen, which was fine).
I was wondering whether any of the Jungfrau region regulars (DG Orf, Chris Brookes, Telford Mike, Elisabeth B etc) are likely to be in the area at that time? I know there was talk of an MSB possibly being held there, but nothing concrete seems to have developed over on that thread

Alastair Pink, really easy transfer via rail, I've done it a few times last year I got lucky flew into Geneva Airport with no luggage other than a laptop, was down and onto the station platform very quickly at the station there.

Alastair Pink, David is right we too have flown into Geneva a number of times and found it so easy to connect. What can take the time is waiting for the luggage and that the plane is on time (BA) as the train connection we were aiming for was always very close to the arrival time of the flight.
ps,we always made it though

I've just posted on the MSB thread, suggesting a tentative core period of 14th to 23rd March for Snowheads to meet up in Wengen.

I've just confirmed my accomodation in the Alpenrose - I believe it has been recommended on here on a few occasions. .
DG Orf - any chance of you being there over the period 14th to 23rd March as mentioned on my posting in the MSB thread?

I still reccomend the Hotel Alpenrose even though I'm no longer welcome there after someone apparently complained about me last season |
So what happened and is that why you are not returning next season ??

slikedges, Chris Brookes, cathy, Ok in answer to the question I do not know what I am supposed to have done, when I left in February this year I was taken to one side and told that I was no longer welcome at the Alpenrose, I was told that guests and others had complained about me, I was told who the non guests were and both of those people have said that they did indeed talk about me (out of concern for me after my mothers death) but certainly made no complaints, so I don't know what to think, however the Alpenrose is perfectly within their rights to bar me in the same way that a pub here can bar a person, am I sad about it, of course I am but I cannot do anything about it, the Alpenrose is a buisness and if other guests complained about me then I can't blame the hotel for asking me not to return, in the end it is a lot easier for them to offend one guest than it is for them to loose several.
I'd certainly carry on reccomending the Alpenrose as an excellent hotel especially for good food

D G Orf, sorry to hear, I think you deserved more understanding and more of an explanation than that after your long relationship with them and loyal custom. Has the management/ownership changed?
|

slikedges, no the owners remain the same, Chris Brookes, partially but it's also several other things including my current state of fitness (or the lack of it) and my current financial situation, which is not as good as I'd like it to be
