My parents are in Switzerland at the moment (somewhere near Lucern I think...) and they reckon over a foot of snow at 1000m

Elizabeth B, Ah Luzern, around 45 minutes drive from Lauterbrunnen, my friend says. Will go to Lauterbrunnen in a couple of weeks to go see the Rotsee regatta in Luzern (biggest rowing world cup event)
Can barely wait, but kindof want to see the region summer style, but if it keeps snowing like this i'm afraid it'll look the same as I know

Ronald,
I am off to Wengen for what is supposed to be a summer holiday in a couple of weeks. And there I was thinking I would be too late for the spring flowers.....

nordicfan, hehe, We'll never know what the weather will do right
Happen to know what dates you will be in the area?
I'll have a short trip, arriving the 5th of July and leaving again the 10th i believe.

Ronald,
I will have left before you arrive. I didn't even think of going to the Rotsee Regatta while I was in the area. That's a really good idea for the future.

Arround 100 years ago during the construction of the Jungfrau Railway the explosives depot (which was inside the mountain) went up, at the time it was said that the entire mountain had shuddered, I can't help wonder if this big piece of the Eiger may have been fractured during that explosion and now thanks to Global Warming its being forced apart

I did not know about that, it certainly sounds plausible.

The strange "Mystery Park" by the airport at Interlaken Ost is in financial difficulties apparently they have 6 months to sort things out or they will be out of buisiness

I managed the get a bike up to the Kleine Scheidegg...
I hope not too many tourists lost their eyes cus a few of them were staring their eyes out of their sockets when they saw me mashing the pedals on the steep sections up (EG at crossing with Wixi chair)
Fun to see the cows on the Lauberhorn race track, bike in between the cows between Hanegg and Bumps bottom, actually recognise where you are even though no snow and reverse route...
Not sure I found the right path up from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen... didn't manage to stay on the bike for the entire climb cus of the drains being raised a lot on the path. The hairpins were not the problem
Entered the village at the Alpenrose, so probably not the right path !

Ronald, the path splits at top and bottom, the other end of the path comes out near the Palace Hotel (Club Med)
I see from your pics that they're not working on the Honegg lift yet so I guess it won't be done for this year

Looks like the new chair to Birg is to be named Riggli, as it is listed like that in the next seasons operating table pdf...

Ronald, honest....its better to walk down than it is to walk up

Chris Brookes, Not for me, as I am impatient. Running downhill is VERY muscleache triggerhappy
Just saw the predicted rock avalange off Eiger on the news... Impressive (but kindof sad)

Chris Brookes, I find that long steep downhill walks cause many more leg problems than long steep uphill walks. Most accidents happen when walkers are going downhill rather than uphill.

riverman & Ronald, Im no professional when it comes to knowing what is best but when we visited Murren in the summer 04 i mentioned to our friends that we were going to walk up from Murren to Schilthorn. They warned us that it would be easier to walk down it than up it.The up shot of it was we wished we had listened to them and a couple of days later we walked down....much easier (for us)
|
|
|
|
|
|
Me neither Chris Brookes, but ehm... I have a lot more problems downhill then uphill (I took longer going down from wengen then up as well)
Now it may be EASIER to go down, but it does give me more issues the day(s) after.

Ronald, yep but it's not that lift, because as far as I can remember that chairlift doesn't get up to the ridgeline, I'm pretty certain that Axalp has several drag lifts but only 1 chairlift, I remember talking to someone in Wengen one year who came from near there

Slightly new look when arriving at Lauterbrunnen by train this coming winter season -
Renovation of façade at BOB station, Lauterbrunnen
The façade and part of the roof, including the roof overhang, at Lauterbrunnen railway station are currently undergoing total renovation.
The renovation work is being carried out in close cooperation with the Cantonal Department for the Protection of Monuments. The colour composition will reflect the historic constructional development of the reception building. The major stage of expansion took place in 1919 with the south extension. Unfortunately the tiny, distinctive tower vanished in 1983 in connection with the building of a new roof.

Well, I had a really good time on my summer hols in Wengen. It was my first time there, and probably won't be my last. I stayed in the Alpenrose. I have one message about this for DG Orf. It was great. Now please shut up about it. Enough people know. I want to be able to get in next time.
