Great skiing in Champagny this afternoon, fantastic conditions on and off piste, hardly anybody around, no queues whatsoever and happy hour is due to start in 35 minutes at the Pitchoun with beer at 2.40 euros a pint.
It doesn't get much better than this.

Have to say maybe I'm a lucky charm, last year went to Sauze d'Oulx and it started snowing heavily when we arrived and dumped every night for the week with bluebird skies in the day. Keep those fingers crossed for happy days!

O.K. due to fly out Sunday staying at Plagna 2100 - question is do I pack my 4 frnt MSP'S 96 underfoot or my almost vintage Rossi Bandit's B2,S 76 underfoot that still have plenty of life left in them - but from the impression I am getting most of the interesting stuff is skied out - I look forward to some advice from anyone who is out there - my partner is taking out her Line Celebritys 90 underfoot and says I should man up and take the MSP'S however, I am Captain sensible and feel that the Ross's are probably the right choice - the MSP'S are great in the soft stuff but a pain in the ar$e on anything less than perfect. At the end of the day if it dumps down while i am there I coluld always hire some fat ski's.

thefatcontroller, I have heard Mont de la guerre is in good condition, I was talking to a guy from Lyon on the Chairlift up to Roche de Mio who was raving about it. I am due to try it tomorrow befor setting off home so will give an update when I return home.
Le Bois looks normal, ok at the top but with hard / icy bits on the steep narrow bits.
The rest of the runs into the top bit of the Champagny area are all in good condition, the weather has been fantastic and reasonably cold today so things should be good for next week.
It was a touch windy and very cold on the glacier today and it is due to stay cold next week. The snow on the Glacier and on Inversen was also excellent today.
snowbandit, If I had any idea what you were talking about I would glady help, unfortunately my skis matched my outfit when I bought them years ago and I haven't looked at replacing them since.

Daleskier, I can - but looking at the forecast I don't think there is likely to be much new snow next week -the off piste conditions appear to be variable and on piste there will probably be some hard pack. The B2 despite it's vintage is still a popular ski within the touring community- due to it's lightness and foregiving characteristics and is a good ski in mixed conditions- the MSP'S are a fantastic ski in powder they have a feel very similar to the Volkl Manta- however they need maximum effort on piste in hard pack conditions. Going to start packing shortly and still have not decided -oh the pressure - I wish I was driving out I could take both pairs.

snowbandit, Pay the extra and pack both, there is always powder to find in and around La Plagne. Keep it quiet, but, I bet the Biolley sector isnt anywhere near skied out yet.
The Les Arcs lot will have trashed all the off piste on the Arpette/Glacier side of La Plagne, have a read of the Les Arcs thread to see how much time thay spend off piste in La Plagne!

An amazing week this week - blue skies, great snow. Love it!
Pistes are in excellent condition and all the lower runs are open and well snow covered. Off piste is beginning to get a bit crunchy, especially lower down where we have had warm sunny days and cold nights for the last couple of days.
If you're coming out next week you're in for a treat!

OK, just back from the Terra Nova in Plagne Centre today after probably the best week's skiing I've ever had. If you're off this week or next, apologies; I've used all your snow!
Covered 80-100 kms a day (used the Ski Tracks app on my phone, which is well worth the 67p).
Best red was probably Les Sources, which was more of a decent blue, but the snow was always in good nick and it didn't get particularly cut up. Kamikazi could get a bit sheet hard, as did all of the reds on the champagny side of the mountain, probably because that's where the sun was most of the day. We had a cracker down mont de la guerre and les bois one day, but the following went too soon in the morning and it wasn't pleasant.
Glacier was shut for most of the week, meaning huge 20 min queues when they did finally open it up. The red up there is probably a black and there were a load of 'good'piste skiers who were really struggling with the soft deep heavy snow and were practically static and openly weeping as they took an hour to get down. I had a hard time in my narrow skis as I sunk in to the snow, but several years of skiing in Scotland allowed me and the missus to breeze past them, well at least the wife did. I did manage to ski down it properly though.
As mentioned above, the routes in and around the vanoise express have been a bit scraped in places and it's not a pleasant run down to the cable car first thing to get across to les arcs, but well worth the effort. The slopes around that side are better in late morning, early afternoon at the moment. There's still a decent amount of off piste stuff, but beware slab avalanches on the upper slopes when it's been particularly hot. Overall, the place will be good for another week but they'll definitely need some more snow soon after.
Absolutely no queues this week at all, bar the telecabin up to the glacier and the half four rush in bellecote to get back home. We bypassed the colossus queue by taking the poma up, which saved us a good 10 mins and gave us an extra run. The telecabins from bellecote up to roche de mio had massive queues at times, especially lunchtime and about 4pm. We got around that by picking the same cable car up in belle plagne instead, where the queues were minimal.
Belle plagne was a favourite place to eat because of the sun. The cheapest place we found seemed to be the one under the colossus chair which has a lot of flags waving around it - it's self serve, but very reasonable. We both particularly enjoyed the teddy bear cafe just down from the Arpettes chair, which is really well thought out and any young kids would just adore it. Great place to spend a white out day. In plagne centre itself, both scotty's and the igloo were offering reasonable happy hour deals between 4 and 7 pm. The igloo is very cool in its decor (literally!) and has a strong french following. Scotty's has English staff and a strong English following because of that. They do get some good live bands on there though.
I probably won't be back for a few years, purely because we covered virtually every single piste this week, but my missus has adopted it as her favourite ski resort after 20 years of praising Flaine. There's just not enough reds there to keep me happy.

Every lift and piste open. Very few queus. Mainly skiied on piste yesterday - some blues near the resort had a little traffic, but I was frequently the only person on the blacks. Some of the more heavily skiied pistes are getting pretty hard by the end of the morning, but otherwise it's all good. Most of the easily accessible off piste is well-tracked, but still had fun when I did venture off.

Just back from a few days in Les Coches and conditions were God-given really with perfect pistes and cloudless skies.
They're snow-making quite extensively on the lower slopes while optimal conditions allow
Very quiet on the slopes

And more snow on the way at the weekend according to snowforecast, another 40cms expected between Friday and Sunday.
The pistes were excellent last week, lots of squeaky snow but the off piste was well tracked. This new dump should give those lucky enough to be out there something to play in.

Presently in La Roche having lunch. Excellent food (as always) and free wifi. Did Mont de La Guerre this morning. Excellent condition and then a quick scoot to La Roche for lunch. 3 course lunch and a carafe of rouge....taxi to Arc 2000 please. Feeling full.
La Plagne is in excellent condition. Lots of cannons on low stock piling just in case.

Oh forgot to mention. The new Verdons Sud lift is a big improvement. People may moan about lift price costs in Paradski but they do keep upgrading the slow ones (and so many in La Plagne to do ).
