Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

So it's just three of us from Bris (Jenniecook, Duke and myself)? Was considering adding in some confusion by suggesting hiring a car or a taxi transfer for late arrivers but with just three of us I guess I better start looking at Ben's... Are there any others coming into Grenoble on Sunday around 2/3pm local?

Hold your horses on this as I might be joining you and flying from Bristol. The a car would be a good call

Ok, horses back in stable, was thinking if we get enough to fill a MPV and carry gear it may be worth it. Snow chain hire probably still required. Will leave it a couple of days and see where we are.

oldscool, mjaneprice, I'm already booked on Ben's Bus. I had a look on their site but could only see their cancellation policy for Geneva (in which case you lose your money, although it looks like they have discretion for a £10 charge). If you do book the bus then mention that you are the third/fourth (?) snowhead and see if you can get a discount (then you can spend the difference on beer for us all)

Having looked at the possibility of flying home from Geneva on the Thursday, I've decided Tignes is too far to travel for 3 days' skiing...........so I've sorted the work-related problem I had and have now booked for the whole week Toofy Grin Very Happy

Off to see Stelios now about flights - fingers crossed

I'm looking forward to getting out of bed at 4am on the first day of BST rolling eyes

Has anyone got a feel as to what the snow is actually going to be like when we get there. I have seen a loss of a few cm's over the last week.

XidiX, my feeling is that there will be a foot of fresh powder on the night of the 27th, conditions will be absolutely perfect. It will be very cold or there will be something else such as a yeti, which will scare all of the other skiiers/boarders away from going outdoors, therefore guaranteeing freshtracks all day. There will be more fresh snow through the week and the yeti will continue to scare other people from going outdoors.

Batman_123, or in reality, looks like around 30cm new snow over the forthcoming week at midstation. Whether that comes into fruition or not, who knows, but looks like there'll be some new stuff at least. Temps looking fairly low so hopefully lower areas will remain in good condition. Tignes is pretty high anyway, and the 'lower' station on the snow reports is a good way beneath, so there's plenty of skiing higher up, where I'm sure the snow will be great. Maybe check out the Tignes thread, there's probably some news from people on the ground there.

Mrs W, Very Happy good news on the snow

Sometimes its good when the sun isn't out and the weather is bad, as then lots of people stay indoors. But of course, we have the Yeti this time so they won't be going outside anyway Smile

The weather forecast suggests the temps may drop quite dramatically on 27/28th and there may be quite a bit of precipitation for a few days. It's obviously a long way out to take much notice of the forecasts at this range but you never know...

One final question before the 'book' button gets pressed... I'm assuming that people are booking the full area ski pass rather than just the Tignes?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Singerjulie, There's plenty of skiing in Tignes but i would get the full area pass. This will allow you to ski right across the area to the Le Fornet glacier area beyond Val D'Isere. The full area pass will give you more options if the weather closes in. (tree lined runs down to Le Daille for e.g.)
Go for it.........you know you want to... wink.

How do you know that - have I missed something? There was me expecting Club Med luxury as was suggested on page 1 rolling eyes

There are some dodgy reviews on Trip Advisor - Diocalm at the ready Shocked and the hire skis might not be up to much, either, apparently

Red Leon, There are also some pretty decent reviews on Trip Advisor... and the manager's response to the dodgy food complaints (new chef), will hopefully negate the need for your Diocalm... wink

Red Leon, there are always dodgy views on Trip Advisor, the site is best avoided IMHO.

I'd hazard a guess that jennycook, probably knows that the hotel is the Curling as she asked Dadmin, plus its the same company I think they went to Alpe D'Huez with

There is every good chance that the week everyone 'apparently got sick' there was a person carrier in the hotel - rather than it being the hotel's fault. The following school trip all seem to survived! ........ and of course some people only book holidays so they can complain afterwards! Looks good to me. Might need some earmuffs for sleeping though or pillows over head but of course if we ski hard enough all day we will sleep through anything.

If you went to ADH in Jan you know who the company is and you look on thier website for hotel in Tignes ..... the 'state secret' comment was a joke....

I've read the reviews too and sifted through them with a critical eye... and then booked.....

Dodgy reviews were primarily when it was Crystal .....

Bug was probably the very contagious norovirus brought in by one of the guests / staff - can happen anywhere..... a friend (and lots of other guests) had it on a £5000 P&O cruise.....................

I'm sorry if Ive caused any angst , but admin clearly stated it was NOT club med ages ago and I would suggest if too worried about the accomodation should have asked more b4 booking.

The hotel in ADH with same company was clean , water was hot,bar cheap, beds comfy, and food was fine, for the price I'm happy ! I didn't use the ski hire but they looked qulaity in the hotel in JAn and had poweder skis etc too.I paid a fortune for a posh chalet in feb prebooked months before and while it was lovley the snow was pretty grim , very 'hard packed' (or bloody icy if truth be told...) .....

Lets go play in the snow snowHead Laughing Little Angel

But, for those of us who didn't go to ADH in January, it wasn't quite so simple to work it out wink

I was joking about expecting Club Med - not likely at the price Admin's secured. I just remembered reading a suggestion that it might be Club Med and I hadn't seen any other suggestions.
