As earlier, Shane Woltsencroft wrote this bit of code for wallpapering the webcams both of 1950 and 'up top' - set it on random and it refreshes around the resort.
If you have any feedback and suggestions for him, he'd be glad to hear it.
I've been running it in various iterations for about three years now, and I love it!
Note: if you have multiple users on a machine, you'll get an error when you change users, but a reload on the icon button fixes it. He says he's working on an updated version.

allanm, I am very impressed, thanks for doing that. It was fun just getting here and looking at what it is like in the dark.
It is snowing up high for sure right now as it is trying to snow right outside as i just looked. Hope it turns to real snow soon. Should be good for the weekend. There is a film festival in Les Arcs starting saturday, promises to be quite a good event with a few stars about and plenty of snow to ski on now. If anyone is around PM and we could meet up for a beer and maybe a ski. Must start off easy and get the leg ski fit again.

Going walking around tomorrow to find our bearings etc. Guess its season passes tomorrow and maybe a bus journey to 2000.
Snow snow snow i'm in looooove!
question how do i find out about bus times etc? I'll probs end up asking someone tomorrow but oh well.

It is very late and I must be up skiing in the morning so just a quicky and will catch up tomorrow with pics of today as well.
The first day was great. Blue skies, fresh powder, good company and not to busy. Only Arc 2000 side was open and they did not want you skiing back to Arc 1800 or anywhere else. The snow levels 30cm I guess in the bowl area. Although I hardly tried the off piste today as I want to take it easy at first, the little I did was great, light and fresh but you can easily drop through onto loads of rocks. Not a good thing with new gear. It does need to snow loads more to be good for the busy period.
Tomorrow is Zag skis test day and I might guide a few film stars as well, Arc 1950 is filling up and I have a very nice apartment to stay in. I now know why some of you guys like it here so much, pool, sauna etc etc plus FREE WIFI. A great place for anyone coming to Les Arcs I now agree. Maybe I need to move. And I can ski to my door. But the best part. I get it for free. Oh so sad. They even gave me a special pass to get in to all the events in return for my services. Sorry guys I just had to tell you all this. I just might volunteer again next year. Sorry Admin, I keep offering to help out at the EOSB, but you never do take me up on my offer. Everyone elses loss me thinks. I am still willing to help this year if you would like me too. Just get in touch if your interested.
WesTaylor, busses are a pain. They are only running one an hour so you are better off coming round to 1950 by car. BUT it is expensive to park. Or you can get the Transarc from 1800 over the top and be in Arc 2000 all day and get the transarc back again. Going all the way down on the way back is not to good if you value your gear. Go to the tourist office near you and they should have the up-to-date bus timetable. Hope to see you over here.

tillywhim, Repeat after me 'The worst day on the slopes is still better than the best day in work'. Chill, lots of snow there and you will have a great holiday, if the thought of spending the week in Les Arcs is proving to stressful for you then by all means stay in work and I will go on your behalf . I could do with the stress of flying about on empty slopes.

thefatcontroller, you're absolutely right. It's just that I organise a group and feel a bit responsible which, of course, I know is ridiculous re the conditions. At least we are staying at 2000 and the group are very experienced so we should be able to find something to ski on. We've been this week for the last 4 years and always been lucky so I've still got my fingers crossed (that's ridiculous too I know).

tillywhim, if you pop down to 1950, there free wifi in all the apartment block receptions, as well as some of the establishments. Just sit there in the big comfy armchairs, beside a blazing log fire, emailing or facebooking all your jealous friends.
And besides, its a far nicer village...

tillywhim, There is a public wifi in Arc 2000 that was last year 35 euro for the week, a cheaper option is the bowling alley beside the Lanchettes chair where it is about 10-15 Euro for the week.

I bleedin' hate the internet.
Bring back the days when you just turned up to resort hoping it was going to be alright. All this up to date technology is playing havoc with my optimism/pessimism levels.
After 15 years of skiing, mid Jan in Les Arcs is going to be my last week skiing for a few years I feel... and the temptation is far too much to stop me from just having a little "peek" at the webcams each morning.
Last week I was buzzing thinkin we're set to be alright, now I'm brickin' it.

Boredsurfing, Neither, I am only here in all this luxury for this week whilst I am a guide/host for the Film Festival. Skied with a film producer but not one I had heard off and still no blonde film stars, where are they all hiding. I see some in the bars every evening. Next week I am back in Arc 1800 or down the valley so I am enjoying the sauna, jacuzzi in the snow (yes it is snowing again tonight), Haman etc etc whilst it lasts . I think I should be on commission for selling Arc 1950 as a good place to come for your holidays. Ah, but next week I will have all my home luxuries which I also miss (well a little) .
Guvnor, You will not need to go up the valley, THERE WILL BE SNOW!!
tillywhim, You do not need to get stressed, it will keep snowing, I just looked in my crystal ball.
Now for the real report of today.
When I woke up it was still raining, not good but had to go out anyway, yuk! Met one person, had a short ski then coffee. And called it a day. It was still raining at above 2000metres when we headed for home. A very short day!!
Went to see a movie, but when I came out, yippee it was snowing again and quite heavy, but right now it is impossible to ski down to 1800 or any lower if you value your kit. When I got back to Arc 1950 it was still snowing early evening and it is still snowing lightly right now. One guy who braved it till 4pm told me over a beer!! that is was really heavy up at the top of the transarc by 4pm.
So do not worry, as long as it stays cold now, the snow level should recover by next week. I HOPE!!
I do not know where they get the snow depth from at the moment but right now at Arc 1800 it is about 5cm not 30cm.Higher up it could be 50cm plus so the 70cm is not to far out. But it needs to get really cold now so they can use the canons and start making the pistes.
Will have a go at some pics now and update again tomorrow.
