The Superski lift pass area is now 90% open with 1085kms of slopes available out of a total of 1200kms. 401 lifts are operating out of a total of 450.

Looks like good skiing conditions over the next 5 days. Unseasonably Warm at the moment but sunny. Gradually cooling down to subzero by New Years Eve. A bit of natural snow is even possible before turning mostly dry again.

Currently staying in Arabba, conditions excellent today but the light was a little flat at times. We didn’t venture too far as there were warnings of possible lift closures due to high winds.
We ended up in San Cassiano and had a nice lunch at Utia Pic Pre.
Despite having skied all around the area many times over the years I could not think of a route back to Arabba that avoided Corvara. I am pretty sure it’s possible to get to La Vizza and the take a chair up to Cherz. Did I dream this?
|

Yes, the blue from Punta Trieste hut goes down past Incisa hut to the Cherz chairlift. As does blue 34 from Pralongia.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Getting back to Arabba via Cherz is my prefered route at the end of the day to get back to Compalongo for the lift back.
The run down from the Piz Boe lift from Corvara can get well chopped up at the end of day. Going left from the top of Piz Boe for about 50 meters and then taking the path to the right bypasses the rough bit for the most part though.

Right, the Dolomites beckon on the 6th. Is it too soon to start stressing about weather conditions? At the same time last year I had the best conditions ever, plenty of snow, perfectly groomed pistes (as always) wall-to-wall sunshine and cold temperatures keeping the snow in mint condition. More of the same please!

@Hurtle, don’t stress. Essex has been there and conditions are great. The instagram link above is Marcel Hirscher in Corvara and it looks amazing.
Arabba Fodom and Ski Scuola Arabba pics on Facebook show really nice conditions all over.

For those in the Dolomites today, what are the temperatures like?
In Styria Austria today it’s incredibly mild, 12c at 1,000m.

We left Corvara on the 23rd after skiing the morning. The pistes were immaculate all the previous week, everywhere we went and we went everywhere! There were more bare patches off the sides than I've seen in the last few years but the pistes themselves were much better than I've experienced before and the snow coverage was great.
There was definitely a lack of snow below Arabba and further south but I didn't ski Alleghe and can't say if it was particularly lacking there compared to normal. Knowing the Dolomites, I would expect that it would be fine?!

They are currently reporting 1,110kms of ski runs open which is 92% of the Superski area. 409 lifts out of a total of 450 are running today.
https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Live-info/Open-slopes
The Great War tour was due to open on Boxing Day but I don’t think it has. I suspect they might need a little bit more snowmaking to guarantee the season in every sector.
Temperature now slowly cooling down. Currently minus 3c on the highest run above Corvara.
It looks like the Dolomites should miss the rain and hold onto the good surface conditions and likely good visibility.

In Arabba this week. Mainly sunny morning and unseasonaly warm but the pistes are in fine shape. It’s fairly reminiscent of March when I usually come to the Dollies but not getting as cut up later as much as it does then.
Not busy at all and had a nice day cruising to Santa Croche and back with a bit of a tour of the Pralongia Plateau thrown in.
As previously mentioned the local opinion is that the temperatures will drop later this week. The forecast for a snowy Saturday transfer day has disappeared now too!

Interesting about the low crowds, I thought the Dolomites were meant to be busy at Christmas.

Much busier today, the crowds are here now.
We will be heading away from the circuit tomorrow, Alba and Pozza, hoping for it to be quieter.

Good news, the Great War tour opens today.
https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Experience/Sellaronda-Grande-Guerra
93% of the Superski area is now open. 1,110kms of runs and 410 lifts. Temperature is currently -4c at 2,400 which is warmer than normal but it doesn’t look like getting any warmer at the moment. The trend looks slightly cooler so hopefully they will be able to finish off the snow making for this season and put the cannons away soon.
A new covering of natural snow over the New Year but it doesn’t look enough to be disruptive to the skiing.

We arrived yesterday (staying at Piz Seteur, Plan de Gralba). Loads of snow last night - I reckon a solid 20cm. Beautiful today - hazy sunshine, minimal wind, not too cold nor too warm, heavy laden trees and the pistes were in great shape. So pretty near perfect I would say. (Although, because of all the fresh snow, by the afternoon there were lots of bumps to contend with which I can’t say I handled elegantly. Fun though!)

@KatiePopple, Are you actually staying at the Piz Seteur Hutte at the top of the piste?
We'll be there on Friday. Apres beers at Saltos Bar and Kronestrube. Two rowdy Cornish fellas and a random midlander.
