Seem to be doing one way traffic between Bellentre and ??? alot of traffic coming up at the moment, as far as I can see we'll be in next wave down. Hopefully might keep moving then.

Best wishes go out to all those trapped/tired from a horrible day's travel. I waved my aunt and uncle off to Stansted this morning at 08:30, and they're apparently somewhere near Moutiers now (having flown, probably to Chambery). Has anyone got any news on the road up to Val D'Isere? I'm assuming they're not really in a position to hole-up where they are...

@ChrisWo, I'm going the other way, some traffic is making it up, but mainly cars - in the last 2h I think I've only seen 3 coaches go up.

@f948lan, thanks for the update. They're in a taxi (DIY trip) which apparently has chains, so there's some hope for them. Have you made it down past Bellentre, what was it like?

@f948lan, I think once you are through the one way bit you should get moving, traffic moving freely out of Albertville. We should know, we've been watching it for hours.

Got some friends trying to get from Grenoble to Les Arcs. Sounds (and looks) like it's tough going out there.

Currently decamped to a hotel at Lyon airport, thankfully, having driven all day today. The peage at Chambery is temporarily closed for all traffic heading into the Savoie from the A43 from Lyon or A41 from Annecy according to the news and this site: http://www.bison-fute.gouv.fr/maintenant.html

Landed at Geneva at 6pm. 6.5 hours later we are just past Albertville & stationary.

Having left Morzine mid morning as soon as we knew where we were going we have just made it to moutiers having skipped a lot of the auto route jam from albertville going on minor roads. Friends ahead of us have been prevented getting up to La Tania and are spending the night in emergency accommodation. Advice from my resort host is that police are being very selective about which vehicles they will let up to resorts and are periodically closing it completely fro snow clearance

Certainly some taxis going up, hope they're not on a meter!
My one way theory hasn't panned out, we were allowed to pass but hit the back of more ststic traffic after about 1km.
Convoy of ambulances went down past us a while back and a plough has just come up with a stream of cars behind.

Road itself isn't that bad (no issues in winter tyres anyway).

?N90 is horrendous in parts. We have winter tyres & have never used chains before - but have them in now. There is a sea of cars two lanes deep stopping to put chains on & we aren't even at moutier yet.

You are obviously going the other way - and that looks fine. We are heading from Albertville towards moutiers. Stationary again. 7.25 hours since we left Geneva!! The skiing had better be awesome!!!!

@jayne durham, At least you have skiing to look forward to I'm queuing to leave the powder behind. Should have gone with my first instinct, to have an extra night/day in resort (but OH not so keen - non-skier!)

@jayne durham, yes I think the excitement is wearing thin in this car too! Kids in the back trying to sleep but just keep kicking each other!

Can't imagine what it is like with kids in the car - the poor things. Hubby is watching a video & I have to hit him each time the traffic moves. He doesn't trust me to drive in case I break the snow chains.

Just gone through peage outside Albertville, complete chaos. Lots of abandoned cars and people just stopped and parked up. Road workers giving out water to everyone. Can't see much point stopping so we are carrying on.

Good luck to those still travelling. It sounds like the road up to Tignes/Val beyond Bourg is pretty clear, if anyone's still trying to go that way.

Still on the coach, all accommodation full. Glad to be still on the coach to be honest, tour operator rep, and the driver have both done an amazing job in incredibly tough circumstances.

Finally made it here at 3am thanks to a pretty legendary coach driver! Pretty hairy going in places, feel for those stuck. We stopped in moutiers for the driver to get his nap in & there were a lot of stranded souls sleeping there & a poor bus load (including babies) who had been abandoned there by their driver. Reps were trying to figure out what to do. We were just lucky with our driver who seemed determined to get up to VT. Tailbacks all the way, even on the last legs to VT. Lost internet connection around Albertville. Only catching up now & understanding truly how bad it has been for so many. Saw posted up thread that French media saying that it was the worst transfer day in history. That jives with what our driver was saying- hasn't seen anything like it in 25 years ! On the plus side , snow looks good up here so looking forward to finally getting the skis on tomorrow.

Glad to see some of you have made it, finally. A great test of tour reps. Good that some have risen to the task. I have to go down to Geneva airport this morning so having scraped through yesterday before the big problems built up am hoping it will be ok. Chains still on and car in garage but hopefully can get them off soon. Drove miles in them yesterday.
