Zero-G, above mean sea level - so more or less in town. A good indicator I find is where is the snow line on the trees - that's more or less the snow/rain limit.
And bear in mind that almost everything you'll be skiing is above 1,500m...

Good luck with that! It was howling a gale up there, with the wind blowing away all the snow. There were moments when I had to stop and brace myself against the wind so that I wouldn't be blown out of my bindings. I put in a valiant effort and did four runs.
The windchill was crazy. It was -4 deg C up there but when I removed a mitten to take a pic, my hand burned with cold like it was -20.
The telecabine ride, which normally takes 7 minutes or so, took double that. The danged cabins were swaying all over the shop. On the way down, I saw a dead goat (or wild cousin) lying in pieces below a blood trail about 10m long. Not sure what that was all about.

A guy in my cabin up brevent said that flegere had closed! I had one run up the cornu then straight back down! The home run was as much fun as it always is though, i love that run

eddiethebus, Is this the Nants black? Out for the first time pretty soon staying in the Savoy area. I have a bit of an aversion to down loading so I'm really hoping that it is/stays in good nick. I'll never live down another rock strew board destroying disaster - I already have a bit of a reputation for incaution.
On a related note - is it possible to take the occasional short cut through the trees?
|
|
|
|
|
|
yeah its the nantes, it is a bit rock layden though so you need to be careful. Its in pretty good condition at the moment though, good fun if you like jumping up and down the side banks
there are one or two cuts through the tree's but in all honesty there not a huge amount of fun as there quite dense. much better off sticking to the piste.
when are you out?

eddiethebus, end of the month for a long weekend, hopefully it'll just keep on snowing till we arrive.
Zero-G, it sounds like you've got that dog eared pirates treasure map I've been trawling the interwebz for. Passed from snowhead to snowhead or so legend has it.

Zero-G, perhaps we should . . . although I think that map time expired in spring 2011, very different conditions this season . . . Happy to meet up though, I have a herd of piste skiers decending upon me next week so should be glad of a diversion from the poles . . .

Snowing hard in the valley, can't see the mountains. Obsessively refreshing the webcams so that I can decide which mountain to ski (looks like whiteout everywhere at the moment).

Every time I go to Les Houches, I get lost and end up doing the same circuit repeatedly like groundhog day
Looks like the cloud is clearing now, heading off!

My word, about 10-15cms since lunchtime. Went up Les Houches for lunch and did a few runs. Puking snow as the cousins would put it. Very hard base after the rain, but tomorrow looks epic.

Another incredible day of powder, more snowfall, and did I mention powder? I skied my legs off today and had the best day's skiing of my skiing life. Am quite giddy thinking about it.
Can't post pics until my laptop recovers from the red wine mishap, so can't transfer images off my camera until then.

Btw, has anyone skied Le Tour side this week? I haven't been up that end for almost three weeks, thought I'd head that way tomorrow and want to know what the conditions are like.

I spent the whole day there.
Very scoured at the top but after first pitch or so was really good especially in trees/ shrubs.
Had a peek in Jeurs looks really good but was fairly cautious because of recent wind etc
The tete Balme kept breaking this am so I think it put alot off so it ended up quite quiet.
