Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

boredsurfin, am I correct in interpreting from those dates that there is almost no correlation between first snowfall and what the season will actually turn out like?

foxtrotzulu, Yep, nor early snow cover! In 2006/7 by December 31st there was little but man made snow left, As we went outside at midnight the rain turned to snow and by morning things were back to normal. Last year of course the bar owners had to dig out their furniture to open their terraces for the first day of the season!

Good fall of snow overnight, I see them getting the airbag installed this morning snowHead
foxtrotzulu, All the Montalbert lifts will be removed and be replaced by a Gondola for next season, 2014/2015 however there is a problem with planning permissions at the moment so the dates are now uncertain.
As a first step in removing the five lifts Coqs chairlift has already been removed, so to get to La Plagne from Montalbert you have to go via La Roche. This will be the case into the future.

boredsurfin, That seems a shame to lose the Coqs lift which allowed skiers to return to La Plagne via Stade...

Do you know where the new gondola will finish - Fornelet presumably?

red 27, Yes, slightly lower and to the right of where the current lift ends. If you look at the webcam (when it stops snowing) you can see a new 'fire break' that has been cut through the forest ( above the first draglift that appears on the webcam,) that is the route if they get permission for the new lift.

boredsurfin, I think you mean to the left? Not right? If it was to the right then you would be without bed for the night Toofy Grin . I believe that the planning permissions are all in order and the botanical issue has been sorted and it is all steam ahead for 2014 Madeye-Smiley Madeye-Smiley

boredsurfin, Losing the Coqs chairlift seems a massively retrograde step. Won't it take a lot longer to get over to La Plagne from Montalbert and also force you down to the bottom of Roche where snow cover could be an issue in Spring?

From Perso Plagne, permissions have NOT all been given and a public enquiry may need to be held. A decision is due by month end.

Site DREAL

Foxtrotzulu, Indeed, at best it will leave Montalbert as quiet backwater dormitory of Paradiski, fine by me but in a way a shame as it will affect so many people in a negative way.

Does seem super-odd...

Replacing two 4-man chairs (one of them fast) that don't have capacity issues with a bubble is oddish but seems unrelated to ripping out coqs and with it the decent connection back to LP. Monty restauranteurs must be livid.

You're sure they're not making the bubble carry on over and up to Stade, with a mid station at fornelet? (he asks, hopefully)

red 27, Positive, just one lift from Montalbert village to where near where the current Fornelet ends. Vague mentions of some retail being built along side the end of the Gondola but no detailed planning has been applied for yet.

red 27, to get to the top of the fornelet take 20 to 25 mins, the new Gondola will take 7 to 8 mins. At the moment La roche is running at half the capacity - they will attach more chairs onto La roche to help cope with the higher volume of traffic. I agree that its a bit a a bug that they have took out La coqs, in my opinion they should have left it in and run for a year with the new gondola.

cockofthenorth, and how long will the morning queue be for the Gondola be with no other uplift in the area? Plus the shuttle busses bringing down the beginners and family's from the holiday centres on the outskirts of the village to join the thronging mass.
Probably will be quicker to drive around to La Roche in the French holiday period! Laughing

I can see what ur saying but you have to take into consideration that you are at the moment queing for 2 lifts espescially the fornelet where we meet all the center holiday punters . we have to take into consideration that the new gondola will take more people per hour than the 2 lifts by a long way BUT and when i say BUT its down to our good old French lift attendants getting bums on seats, if its busy periods then fill the fu**in seats Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil wink

cockofthenorth, It's an 8/10 person Gondola, what do you reckon about 4 people in each cabin max? Confused
So in real terms about the same uplift as now, but everyone starting in the village. SAP acknowledged at the Residents AGM that it will only be a problem in the French holidays. But who knows what the effect will be down at La Roche.
I'm so glad this season will be our last Half term February holiday Very Happy

boredsurfin, I bet you are wink , its defo going to be a wait and see when it comes to half term, it will be interesting to see how they tackle the que system, surely if its not to posotive then they will have common sense to get the lifties to drop there glasses of wine and get bums on seats Puzzled . mind you common sense and French sometimes dont mix Madeye-Smiley
