After my bad injury last season, I've had to accept the fact that I can never ski again, so I haven't been able to spend my money on ski holidays this year. But, that's no reason for Chemmy to miss out on her dream. I've made a donation on behalf of both of us. Go Chemmy! Here is some of the money I'd have spent going skiing - I hope Chemmy does us proud.

Thank you Hurtle. You can all guess why I haven't been here - it's been hard to accept. The whole injury has been very bad for my overall health and mobility. I could try again but would now be putting too much at risk. I'd rather Chemmy had the money that I would have spent on ski holidays.

docsquid, Wow, I am sorry to hear that. Tibial plateau fracture as I found in a quick search. Do you now have to avoid any activity which puts a heavy load/heavy impact on the leg or avoid any thing which may involve a nasty fall? Is Nordic skiing on flat trails or snow shoeing in Scandi somewhere still possible?

halfhand, have you tried raising funds for things like sport or the arts (ie non-heart-rending causes) lately? I have, and it ain't easy. And if she's got agents, that'll be 50% or thereabouts straight to them, I expect.

halfhand, those sponsors... one is Snowasis (their £200k "sponsorship" that didn't materialise is one reason SSGB folded), another is the clothing manufacturer so its just their logo, another is Landrover who have pulled out, then there is British Land who were already the biggest sponsor and lastly, the lawyers who AFAIK work for free. Rocking up to such team sponsors and asking for dosh for one individual isn't going to work I'm afraid. Anyway, in some respects I agree that there are better causes on this planet but the people who have given here are exactly the same kind of folks who give elsewhere as well. Twenty quid gets you 3 pints in the alps or bowl of cold spaghetti. I'd rather see Chemmy ripping it up for GBR.
