Hi
We have week beginning December 12th booked off and were planning on coming to Tignes for a week.
Is anybody out there now - what are the conditions like?
We have option to either come out on 12th or delay to second week in Jan if its a bit too patchy.
thanks
Laura

The pistes that are open right now are in mint condition, and with more snow on the way this weekend, it looks to be a promising start to the season. I've tried a little bit of off-piste, but there's not much available at the moment. January would give the snow a bit longer to accumulate, but by the look of the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, theres not much to worry about!

Thanks Rorie!
If it does snow as they say next week then we'll book up!
It would be great (pretty please) if you could give us a quick report beginning of next week to confirm?

Even on its current levels, do you guys think that they will be opening up more or less all the pistes this weekend? If not, what does the lower/upper levels have to be at to do so?
I am on the cusp of booking for TIgnes/Val this weekend and could use some advice on what will be open even at current levels (with th aforementioned forecast which looks promising)

croskemj, in the past when there has been enough snow to open all the pistes on opening weekend they have not done so it takes a lot of time to prepare them all and would probably not be economically viable to run all the lifts for a handfull of customers and seasonires who've paid their one off price anyway. Most of the main pistes should be open. Someone better informed than me may come along and say otherwise though

Well it looks like we might have to wait until Jan -
the places where we had planned to stay are fully booked week beg 12th
Unless anyone knows of some good places to stay and who to book through?

where were you looking? have they simply become booked when you looked today? I have found them going very quick - maybe because of the positive forecast we are now getting

Re-reading my original email, I meant to say that I am going on the 12th and merely booking it this weekend - how much in your view do you think will be open by then rambotion, ?
I have never been at this time of year before, so genuinely learning about what to expect

TBH croskemj, I have no idea what will be open on the 12th. But I just found this
These slopes and areas will be opening tomorrow:
- 38 runs
- 36 ski lifts
- Ski right down to the resort in Val d’Isère ("Raye" slope - La Daille) and Tignes
- Ski from Val d’Isère to Tignes via Tommeuses, and get back over to Val d’Isere with Les Tufs & Aéroski
- 6 areas open : Solaise, Bellevarde, Grande Motte, Palet, Palafour, Tovière.
- Espace Killy day ski pass: 40,50 €.
Would have though they would open the le fornet glacier as that has got to have decent coverage

Normally we stay in self-catering CGH residence La Ferme du Val Claret but all 1 bed & 2 bed apartments are gone.
There is only 2 bed available at Nevada but its too pricey at £1253 through ski-independance and thats without food and travel.
Other option was new Telemark but not opening until 19th.
Since we normally drive & use ski-independance not sure who else to use?
We also tried ski total to bunk in a chalet but all availability has gone there too

croskemj, I was in Tignes around the 12th or so last year (or just before that) and pretty much the entire Espace Killy was open. Fingers crossed that it will be the same this year, keep up the snowdance, book and hope (as I have).
Always a risk booking early season of course but Tignes seems pretty decent at this time of year, and the pistes are pretty empty compared to other times of the year

lauralime, there are so many apartments in Tignes - hard to believe they're all full for mid December. Have you done an internet search - there are a huge number of agencies. Or telephone the tourist office?

rambotion, Good find! Those stats look about right too, I ski-toured up piste-H last week and it seemed to be just about ready. I'm out and about on the mountain tomorrow so I can confirm.
lauralime, have you PM'd my ESF colleague stewart woodward? He knows a few independent owners who might have some vacant apartments.

First day of Skiing for me for the season!
Grande Motte is in superb condition, however its quite hard and icy elsewhere especially down the Double 'M', Creux and into La Dallie
Around about 60% of slopes were open today, Hopefully the big dump forceast for Monday will sort things out!

working on an Inspired to Ski course in Tignes. Nice sunny day on Saturday but today was windy and the links to Val were closed. Best and most sheltered piste was MM down from the glacier accesed from the funicular. Waiting for snow which is supposed to arrive tonight and continue tomorrow. Forecasts vary from 10cms to 40cms. Will wait to see what hits the ground!

woo hoo -
Although I'm gutted we're not going to be skiing in Dec now, we've just booked 2 weeks through Mark Warner to stay at Chalethotel Aiguille Percée on 17th Jan!
Two weeks is going to be ace!
Hopefully the accomodation will be ok, but it doesnt matter much as we're there to ski!
Then back home for Feb and back again to Tignes on 6th March!

Any instructors out there available perhaps for some private lessons between 17th & 29th at some point?

Fingers crossed! Friends from my last season in LDA are reporting 2 feet, was wondering whether the snow had fallen as plentyful accross the Hautes Alpes! I shall be out there for the season in under 2 weeks, and have just ordered my new Surface Live Life 2s, the snow dance continues! Thanks for the update!
