Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avoriaz / Morzine / Les Gets / Chatel - 2008/9

What an amazing dump of snow. It is still snowing now (18.00 Saturday evening).

Using my usual step shovelling as a measure, I can honestly say that in many years of living here, I haven't seen so much snow fall overnight.

We made it out onto the slopes this morning. Conditions are amazing. It felt like the powder was up to our chins in places. There was so much snow that steep terrain was called for. Shame we couldn't see anything...

The Chatel tourist office have measured 70 cm at the bottom and 200 cm at the top, which isn't bad for December 6th.

I posted a couple of photos of our garden here: http://www.white-peak.com/weblog/

If you are coming out for Xmas/New Year, you are in for a treat!

The sun is coming out tomorrow so it should be amazing...

I,m relatively new to all this, only started skiing last Jan..............so possibly a stupid question then but;
Would this 'early' snow be likely to be around for some weeks now or can it all turn to slush as fast as it came? Its just that 'we' are planning a trip 3rd week in Jan & although Les Gets is on 'our' radar was/am nervous about booking anywhere 'too low'.......
What do you all think?
Ta in advance

Mitchell, if you're a relatively new skier then Les Gets would be perfect for you. It's got lots of beginner and intermediate friendly terrain and few places where you can go wrong and end up on a nasty slope.

In any normal year the third week of Jan will be fine in Les Gets - this year is looking way better than normal.

Just for info. Le Plenay will not be open to the public this Saturday. It is being used by a corporate group for the day. Will open Sunday, the navettes around town start Saturday though so you can access the other main lifts.

Hope to get up there after my trip to GVA tomorrow morning.
