laundryman, it is lovely! the old town reminds me a bit of York, strange i know but it does. Its the cobbled narrow streets, they just do it for me! Good shopping too and its fun exploring the fort in the summer.

snowangel., maybe they're gonna be Bond villains? We've always thought they looked like hangouts for baddies. Did Briancon succeed in their quest to become a UNESCO World Heritage site?

snowangel., shellthecobbler,
Nice pics
For those interested: Briancon’s skiing is relatively new, the lifts out of Briancon were only built in the mid 80’s. Before then one had to walk up from the top of the Prorel pass from the Chantemerle side to ski down to Briancon. The best of the off piste through the trees is now apparently designated out of bounds as a quid pro quo for getting the lifts built.
Although the lowest lift in Briancon is quite low the bulk of the skiing starts at the midstation of the gondola at 1600m and is reasonably reliable in winter and in spring but is then best skied in the mornings. The run to the bottom from the midstation has snow cannons and flood lit skiing at night and is usually kept open till the first week of April in my experience though the surrounding fields are green. The top bit of the Briancon area has just about the only south facing pistes in the Serre Che area. The Briancon skiing is usually well-groomed and good fun it is also sheltered from the wind. Anyone other than beginners though would benefit from getting the full Serre Che pass if going for a week as the local slopes are not particularly extensive. It is easy to get to and from the rest of the skiing either by free ski bus or via the lift system.
Briancon as a town has some attractive bits and some less attractive bits personally I am not to keen on the bits near the lift station. The old town is about 100m higher than the bottom of the lifts and I find a car useful for getting about as well as visiting other nearby resorts which you can ski on a weeks lift pass. Montgenevre and Puy St Vincent are close by, La Grave and 2 Alpes a bit further and Alpe d’Huez possible and on the same lift pass but a fair bit further to get to. La Grave you have to pay extra for.
Vauban was a French military engineer under Louis XIV who was the leading thinker of siege warfare in his time he designed many fortified towns around France and Briancon is well worth seeing though all the surrounding forts are not of Vaubans design.
This link http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/6750/ may be of interest for those visiting Briancon or interested in Vauban.

Frosty the Snowman, resize the image you're including in the [img] tag, and wrap that in a [url] to the full-size image that people can opt to download.

Frosty the Snowman, take an image like this one https://snowheads.com/the_zone/showphoto.php/showphoto.php/photo/1851
Using the linked thumbnail code shown down the page results in this
Code: |
[url=http://www.snowmediazone.com/the_zone/showphoto.php/photo/1851][img]http://www.snowmediazone.com/the_zone/data/503/thumbs/2006_0113Image0035.JPG[/img][/url] |
and shows up in a post as this
The picture itself is small in both bandwidth and screen size but is clickable to open up to full size in another window. It allows the page to load quickly and the thumbnail image gives the reader an idea of what the picture is (better than a text link), if they're interested they can click it to get to the full version.

Frosty the Snowman, if you open the link on Fenlandskiers post, and look at the bottom of the page in snowMedia Zone, there is a line of code which you can copy and paste into your post to give a thumbnail.
FenlandSkier, that line of code you quoted's doing havoc with my viewing.

Frosty the Snowman, it's the address of the thumbnail image that the snowmediazone software automatically generates for the indexes and navigation menus. It is only 100x75 pixels in size and 2kb so is very small in both bandwidth and screen space.

pha, life is too short to worry about photo's.
much much more important is how the piste are to ride.
I've just had the best morning. I was greatly suprised as to just how nice the pistes are. Yes there are some stones, yes there are some icy bits but on the whole it is bloody lovely up there!
The begining of the luc has a sign warning of icy snow, i thought i was gonna be cursing by the time i got down, but it was lovely!
Yes we need some more but on the whole it is totally awesome!

Nice paintings chris.
Another piece of info on Briancon - it also boasts (well a couple of years ago) a top 100 listing for one of it's restaurants. Can't for the life of me remember the name, but it's down near the river, by a little bridge (for any officienados). And it was bloody good too, if a little pricey. Although the wine did bump up the price if I was honest!

Nadenoodlee, Serre Chevalier is Serre chevalier - multiple villages or not - they''re all linked and not at all far from one another. The report was from Serre Chevalier. Snowangle takes the trouble to report quite frequently, and 2 posts later someone asks for info that's already there. Not trying to be not nice, but quite often they just haven't actually looked at the previous posts.

Mark Hunter, thanks very much.T Bar, again, thanks. All prints are A4. Those are 3 of a set of 12. If you or anyone else would like to see the rest please feel free to PM me. I can send the pics ( 5 mg quality) via e-mail but would insist on a 5 pound donation (per pic) to a charity of your choice.
