@sj1608, I believe it needs to be connected to the WiFi first? It’s the connecting to the WiFi bit I can’t do, although I will investigate. Thanks.

@Boofont, sorry, hadn't realised that. Might be worth posting on the Friends Of Flaine FB group to see if someone could lend you one to get it onto the WiFi.

Yeah exactly, I moved to France with our Firestick and without our remote (oops) and this is the problem, getting it on the WiFi. Once you're on the WiFi you can control with the app.

@sj1608, thanks but hopefully this rain will clear by tomorrow. It’s almost snow so might give it a go. Hopefully ski tomorrow, then home Saturday.

Just been out for a couple of hours. Intermittent rain/snow at Flaine level, generally falling as wet snow at around 1700/1800m. We’re both soaked!
Runs not great although some are better than others. Quite cut up as you would expect with the conditions. With the bad viz it’s challenging.
We went up Tete des Verds chair and Faust down, wasn’t great higher up but as the viz came in it was ok.
Next, Aup de Veran. Was surprisingly good up there. Viz was ok, the cloud a little less dense perhaps due to the wall sitting to the west/right hand side. Mephsito down which was lovely at the top, bit cut up lower down.
Ended up on Aujon trying to find the top of Stade so took that up but then took the track called Rubis down, then Calcite to pick up the top of Stade. Ignoring the sign saying competions only, (there was nothing taking place!), was good fun although teenage nugget was moaning.
Back up Tete des Verds Tanzanite joining Serpentine. Both ok.
Tomorrow will depend on where the freezing level ends up. I believe it is due to drop lower than Flaine by a few hundred meters. Heavy snow forecast tonight. The condition of the runs may come down to when they are pisted. If they are pisted tonight with the snow falling on them I suspect they will soon be cut up again and not so nice. However, if they are pisted later perhaps in the morning then they may be better. My gut feeling is they will be pisted tonight.
I’m not an off-piste skier but I expect there will be some good runs out there.
For anyone coming out you should have a good few days from Sat onwards although I believe more rain is forecast. Hopefully it’s no where near as bad as the past two days.

@Boofont, sorry about the rain but you win some, you lose some. I had two days only in Samoens last March so they needed to be good. Day 1, the lifts were closed due to weather, Day 2, I went out and ended up in total whiteout. Got to Flaine very slowly and was lucky on way back to meet some French skiers who accompanied me back to Samoens as I was getting dangerously disorientated. I'd have preferred rain.....
Hope you have a good day tomorrow

@Boofont, snow level forecast to 400m overnight, which is a wee bit more than just a few hundred metres, I'd suggest.

Hey @nickielmoore, read through this thread a bit and you'll see there's lots of information and updates from Flaine. Boofont has been invaluable this week providing eyes on the ground at the resort.
Cascades is far from open and won't be open for a while - the short of the weather event this week is that we got hammered with rain up to high altitudes up until it changed to snow sometime last night. I have not been up there yet but I assume everything under 1700 or so got hit pretty hard before the snow came back through. There is a good base at least this season, unlike last year, so we have that going for us at least.
The forecasts I'm looking at next week don't look nearly as bad as this past week, although yeah it will be warm and some precip in the early half.

Morning. 08:20 here in Flaine. Out last day, leaving tomorrow so it’ll be someone else doing the “boots on the ground” reporting, there was someone coming out Saturday if I recall previous posts?
Anyway, significant snow fall overnight and still snowing now. Guess around 30cm plus. Cloud base lower than Flaine, unsure if it’s clear on top, webcams are covered in snow!
Two pics looking up toward the DMC, and then Aup de Veran. The car, that road was completely clear of snow yesterday. The banister which is somewhat sheltered and zero snow yesterday, you can see the snow fall against a 25cl dumpy beer bottle.
Weather said it was due to clear up but not seeing any signs of it yet.
My personnel view, anyone coming out next week should not be too worried. The rain that fell, in my experience anyway, was a rare event. However, I have not been to Flaine before so I may be speaking crap on that one!

@coldrainsnow, yeah, hoping for that too. Going to send you a PM with my phone number. If you’re solo drop us a text or something. If you’re with your fam then no dramas.
Latest update at 08:50 before we set off for first tacks, snow has lessened, very light snowfall now. Cloud base lifted to, as a guess, top of Tete des Verds. Slowly seems to be brightening up.

Lunch stop at “K” restaurant at the top of “Kedeuze” in Les Carroz. Decent place, quite cheap. Didn’t have one but the burgers look epic! Massive, €17.
Conditions improving by the hour. Tomorrow will be a cracking day. Alas, heading home. However, off to Saalbach two weeks tomorrow. Looking forward to heated seats on the lifts and well groomed pistes. Lol.

I was there Sunday, quite a pleasant surprise! There's nothing at the bottom of Kedeuze, we binged on tender chicken: boy had a race, I skinned up there - cheap proteins for recovery!
Back to Grand Massif this weekend, with the weather expect:
- traffic Saturday (locals plus holiday makers)
- avalanches (well at least today), be careful out there

@coldrainsnow, thanks. Glad you had a good day. We got fed up waiting at the DMC so walked up to Forem and got the orange lift up and the walked to Grand Vans. The queue for the “yogurt pots” (love that name!) was massive.
Did a run on Grand Vans then up again and left, did all areas today. Rounded off with a last run up DMC.
Anyone lucky enough to be out tomorrow will have an epic day. I’ll be thinking of you as I travel home… selfish gits that you are! Lol.

By the way how was the wind today? I've heard of Chariande Express (Samoëns) not being too good with strong winds before, and that's where I'm heading to tomorrow - if the wind up there is half as bad as what Geneva experienced today I am weary.

Fabulous day on the hill today . After 24hours of rain, drop in temperature overnight , the slopes were excellent. Plenty of powder. Thankfully many pistes left ungroomed and pretty empty. We stayed mainly Morillon Les Carroz trees etc.
didn’t make it up to Flaine as viz bad around 1400 hrs

@patrick!, wind was fine. Did that chair, was no worse than others.
The comment ref “skinning up” and boarders was a joke connected with a smoking pastime some of them like to do, funny smelling green stuff! Skinning up is a term referring to rolling a joint.

@susieski, we had 48 hours of rain here in Flaine.
Best runs over that side tbh, not as crowded and generally held up better. Only did a few over in Flaine, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, both cut up as you’d expect. Still ok but better runs away from Flaine, in my view anyway.

Just got back from an absolutely amazing day at Flaine today!!! Snow was epic, about 40 cms up top of fresh medium heavy but wonderful pow. Basically all of the top half pistes were ungroomed and the side- and hors-piste stuff was popping off. Amazing lines down Lucifer and Demon to the side-piste of Almadine and all the way down. First run heading over was down Sortilege was dreamy. So much fresh powder in all directions down off of Grand Vans. Dolomie left ungroomed which led to super fun moguls heading back to the car in Les Carroz haha. No wind up in Flaine (although it was cold!) and viz was great until we left at 16:00.
They were blasting the bowl like crazy and got probably 15-20 slides all around. AV risk was a 4 so all the black runs were closed, including the top half of Serpentine. I'm dreaming of an open Gers tomorrow because it looks super full but that's probably optimistic with the AV danger, but who knows. Zero tracks down it today so at least people were being somewhat smart.
Tomorrow will be great too although I imagine everything will be groomed and the mountain is definitely tracked out..... except for Gers. I'm taking Sunday off and then jumping into the off piste camp next week!

Ok guys, last “in-resort” update from me.
Epic snow fall last night as posted. Bailed from the DMC as couldn’t be assed waiting. Headed up Grand Vans, down and back up. That run was OK, chopped up even early on but to be expected.
Headed left with a plan to go to Samoens. Dolomie was un-pisted and chopped up, hard going. Took the wrong chair (Les Molliets rather than Tete des Saix) so opted to bash down to Coulouvrier chair via Les Chars (Pacoty has been closed all week). Frustratingly, Les Chars was closed so we changed plan and skied to Morillon Les Essert, Sairon up, then Gron, then stopped for frites at restaurant K as I posted. We’re not in to big posh lunch’s but the food there really does look great and cheapest place we’ve found which is surprising being on the hill. All the runs were great.
From there, Plein Soleil then on to Timlalets. Amazing runs them two, we really enjoyed them both, probs our favs. Snag today… guy came within inches of hitting me out of control, I lost balance swerving as I caught him in my peripheral and had a god-almighty crash that could have easily broken bones. My lad pointed him out at the bottom and I had stern words. Tbf, he listened to me and was very apologetic. Bit that pissed me off was he never stopped to check in me. Very bad form. Anyway…
Back up, Gron, then Tete des Saix, down Dahu, was ok but a bit flat. Took a chair up and then did Aouia. That was a good run. Coulouvrier up, then noticing Les Chars was open we did that. That was lovely. Then Marmotte, great also. Chariande Express up, headed back to Flaine.
Runs down from Grand Vans was pretty crap. Really mogled which I don’t mind on the steep stuff but… With the snowfall, was always going to happen and it will be bashed out nice for tomorrow. Last run was up DMC, photo stop then the top part of Faust which was ok but very moguled. Didn’t mind it as it was a bit steeper and could find a rhythm. From there took the blues to take us to Forêt where we are staying.
Best runs for me as an on-piste skier I’ve found to be generally anything other than Flaine. That’s being a bit harsh on Flaine as for sure there’s some crackers, but I can’t be assed typing which ones so being very broad. Please forgive me.
Here’s me and teenage nugget top of DMC. I’m the fat old one!
Hope you all have a great time when you arrive. Happy to answer any questions any of you might have coming out! Bon ski!
