I'd like to think so, but forecast is due to get warm again next week (it's been very cold this week), so the snow at resort level is going to reduce significantly. Maybe the upper slopes are beginning to develop a base which will last in to the winter, but I think it's too early to call conditions six weeks ahead.
Having said that, it's snowing pretty hard now, and feels very wintry!

@rob@rar, Nah, this season is going to have a good start, at least I hope it does and validates my decision to drive out in the Volvo this Christmas rather than the Jag!

Looking really nice! I hope it stays and we get a base early. Not able to make it up the hill this weekend so hope someone can share some photos.

More positive than looking at fields of green, for sure, but if it gets as warm and dry as it was in December last year then I still think it's too early to call whether it will be a good holiday season or not. But I think upper slopes have a base for the first part of the season, so it that's good news. I'd like to see the pisteurs out soon, bashing the pistes which I think will help pack down the base?

I was wondering why there are no piste bashers out yet. I guess they are only contracted a certain part of the season and maybe they arent available yet ?

I guess the staff aren't on contract yet. If only I could find the keys to a pistebasher and a chairlift I'd have the place to myself...

While watching the Vagere livecam this morning I saw an adult and child walking across the shot. The child was up to their waist and the adult to their thighs. It reminded me of 1963.

Currently watching the kids trying to sledge on the live cam in 1800 but getting stuck because the snow is too deep!

BAZOOMS IN BOURG - CLOSED ? Apologies if this info has already been reported elsewhere, but thought it would be useful to repeat it here. Have just heard that Bazooms, the early opening cafe/bar opposite the train station, has shut. Which will be a pain for the early Sat morning Eurostar arrivals & others. Sources in the local grapevine here in BSM reckons it went bust. Hard to believe a place like that can't make money, perhaps it was financial mis-management. Grapevine also reckons that the premises will be re opening as a ski/board rental shop (as if BSM needs any more of those). No doubt someone will be along here before too long, to confirm (or otherwise) the Bazoom closure.

It was shut at the end of the summer apparently for a refurb including scaling down the floor size of the bar. It may have since closed for good, I was told that the owner had a rather large tax bill which he'd been dodging for a little while.

Good to see that they have started piste preparation. Now feeling more confident that this snow will form a base for the start of the season, especially if next weekend's emerging forecast for more snow comes to fruition. Happy days!

About 1800m I'd guess. Bottom of the Vagere lift is 1715m I think.

The tourist office has obviously just fired up the hamster powering their YUGE app, I've just had about 20 notifications of lifts being closed whilst sat in a committee meeting

Here's picutre of the Taj-I-Mah hotel
My Les Arcs blog is up an running for the 5th season. I mention the Taj-I-Mah hotel, in fact I'm very rude about it calling it a white elephant. See http://grangedalice.blogspot.fr/2016/11/another-season-at-les-arcs.html
Visitors to Les Arcs (and saisoniers) will find lots of interesting ideas, history, opinions and facts about this extraordinary place.
And of course, check out my fabulous catered chalets at Arc 1600!
Bonne saison a tous!

From their facbook page:
LAst bit in english: "Bazoom is permanently closed and we will not re-open at least not with us. Thanks for sharing these 10 years of conviviality."
I liked Bazoom a lot, I sent Eurostar guests there, enjoyed the bar with my staff and the restaurant with my family. Bourg is sadly lacking places like that. But I am not so surprised it didn't last - it's very hard running any kind of business in France these days, especially a seasonal one with lots of employees, overheads etc. The French tax/TVA/social charges are enourmous and the are collected with no mercy. Another sad reminder we are in a declining industry.
