Ah, bless him, excitable little puppy
Interesting to hear that they couldn't use snow cannon(s) for the last 10 days because the 'reservoirs' were empty - that seem to be an issue in the 3V.
Best solution would surely be to dam the Belleville valley at St Martin and so completely submerge Les Menuires.

There was continuous snowfall throughout the day yesterday making visability difficult. The snowflakes were however very small and at best probably only added the odd centimetre to the previous nights snowfall. In Reberty at 1920M the balcony thermometer is currently reading -5C and there are clear skies.

I drove up to courchevel 1850 earlier; a stunning, beautiful, morning. Snowline starts not far above Moutiers and soon afterwards every single twig and leaf is laden with snow and sparkling in the sun. Had the usual outrageously expensive coffee and croissant, waiting for the agency to open for my son to get the key to the outrageously expensive chalet he's cooking in for the next couple of weeks. It's a different world up there! Was looking fantastic as the skiers started coming out, ready to start their day, as I was driving back down to Moutiers. A great last day for people leaving (probably leaving very slowly.... ) tomorrow. The snow was timely, and there's enough - for now - but it's going to start wearing thin again in some areas fairly quickly with the heavy New Year crowds.

Don't worry Pam, reckon the pattern of westerly depression is now pretty well set to give snow every few days for a fair period.

emwmarine, fingers crossed. Looks as though there might be some slightly high temperatures, though? The snow cannons in 1850 were blasting away at 0845 this morning.

Avy risk was 3 today, which seemed low. We saw about a dozen, including several which had ended up on piste. Saw a group of 6 trigger one by the Avy barriers under Table Verte left, around 1.5 meters of slab - they were lucky not to have been caught by it

Patch, could you confirm how much snow has fallen up top?
I'm now watching MetCheck like a hawk as it's forecasting snow for all next week.

russ_e, probably around 40cm, but its been very windy, so windward slopes are still quite bare, with some windslab on the leeward slopes. otherwise, some lower pistes are still quite rocky, and offpiste very heavy today. Snow forescast tomorrow down to 700m

Took the first Masse 1 & 2 lifts this morning whilst the weather was still resonable. About 30 km an hour winds at the top with strnger gusts. The light was poor although improved slightly later on Mont de La Chambre. The winds had increased by lunchtime blowing much of the snow off the top of the exposed cols and the 3v links for LM/VT/Meribel were closed apart from St Martin/Meribel.
Throughout the afternoon the weather deteriorated further with strong winds and the lifts that were open became busy with new arrivals for the coming week. By early evening the winds had dropped and the forecast snow had arrived. At Reberty 1920m somewhere between 10 and 15cm has fallen and is continuing. Given today's winds and current snowfall I would expect some of the higher lifts may open late due to avalanche blasting and safety checks and it becoming very congested on the lower slopes due to the busy new year week visitors. At times like this I don't normaly leave the comfort of my apartment until I know the upper lifts are open by checking on skiplan.com which is constantly updated. The specific page for Les Menuires is
http://www.skiplan.com/bulletin/bulletin.php?station=les-menuires®ion=alpes&pays=france&lang=en
If you don't already use skiplan then its worth a look and works ok on smartphones.

Around 20cm of fresh snow on higher slopes overnight. Some lifts opening later this morning while slopes are being secured. Avy risk still high. Chains were needed last night to get to resorts, and I heard that it was taking up to 4 hours to drive from Les Allues to Meribel. New snow line is at around 1000m this morning, a little higher than forecast.

3 valleys transport tweeting that roads to Meribel and courchevel have been subject to closures. Courchevel now open and Meribel starting to open.
Hope any snowheads get through without too much pain.

Roads are fine at the moment, a little slippy higher in resort, in side roads etc, but generally OK, and little traffic.
Fantastic conditions today with the new snow, and sunshine all day. Stuck with the low hanging fruit, given the high avy risk, skiing off-piste above St Martin and the Tougnette Sector of Meribel. Thigh deep powder in places, but still very thin cover in other spots, and picked up a couple of nice core shots.
Overall, good conditions for anyone arriving soon, with more snow expected early in the New Year

The web cams seem to have shown it was snowing this morning across the 3V as low down as 1300m. Anyone out there that can report back on the conditions? Also the amount of snow due on Saturday seems to have been downgraded on many forecasts. im getting restless only 3 nights left before i head out there

Snow again this morning. Cleared up now.
Pistes generally in good shape, quite a few stones on lower busy routes.
Anyone heading out next week should have a good week now the new year crowds will disappear

Snowing lightly for most of the day yesterday, and snowing lightly again this morning. 3 Vallées links deconseillé this morning due to high winds. Limited visibility. At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, the off-piste is hiding a load of rocks ... yesterday alternated between thigh-deep and rock-hopping from turn to turn.

I had an email tonight from my son, who is being paid a lot of money (and earning every penny) cooking for some Russians in Courchevel 1850. He said
lots of water falling from the sky, but wasted on sleety snow which is melting even up here at 1850. apparently today is the day in our orbit when we pass closest to the sun. must be that i reckon.

Outstanding day, about 20cm fresh snow, blue skies, and much quieter. A lot less rocky off-piste, but a little heavy at lower altitudes. The Saulire Couloirs, although closed, are in fantastic condition. Pistes looked very chopped up, so we avoided them.

Back from our week in la Tania. It snowed last night so as Patch says the ski ing would have been good today. New snow will need to bed down though so hopefully the quieter week will allow the piste bashers to do their work. We had a good week with many of the pistes in much better shape than the snow reports would have led you to believe. Snow thin below 1600, especially at courchevel 1650. The snow report on the tourist office window stated that snow was poor below 1600 and just below average above 1600, but I felt that was a little down beat, as we had a good week and had lots of fun. My youngest is now getting quicker than me on most slopes so I feel like an old man now! For those about to go out soon I hoe you have a good as week as we did
