@sah, it's foolish to go off piste and not know where you are going st ANY time, as well as Avalanche risk there's plenty of cliffs and terrain traps about.....the incident Dec 15 on Mattun where 2 snowboarders died after being swepped over the cliffs is a classic example. Seeing those tracks just heading towards the cliff and stopping abruptly was one of the most sobering things I've seen.

Just had my first day of skiing for the week in Lech. Warm and slushy pretty much sums it up. So warm that the snowpack isn't even re-freezing overnight. Great fun in the morning but I don't think I'll be doing much more afternoon skiing this week.
@dsoutar, have you seen the slides in the afternoon? Also the avy risk often goes up in the afternoon in spring.
I was only looking at the piste information boards on the slopes rather than any reports and probably only looked in the morning on Thursday and Friday as I skipped lunch and stopped skiing after 14:00 as the snow even high up was fairly slushy after then but they were definitely stating 2 when I looked. Given the lack of freezing temps overnight I would have though they would have erred on the side of caution although I guess most of the people I saw skiing off-piste probably weren't looking at the info boards or avy risk reports anyway
What was thought provoking was that I skied Zugertobel over several days in the morning where there appeared to be slides that had come down across the piste during the previous day that had been cleared as a result of the piste management. Now I know that they tended to close it during the afternoon and also that the slides weren't that significant but I was surprised that given the fact that the slides were occurring the run was open at all.

Warm one today +16C downtown
Wednesday onwards temperature will drop with snow above 2200M . Towards the weekend the freeze level will sink down to town. Snow is expected this weekend.
Hearing some rumours that last day for triittkopf could be April 17th.

I've previously said that I don't mind the new lift from Rauz, but now it's happening it is a bit sad, that area was always nice and quiet.
You know it makes sense.

As far as I know the new Ochsenboden Mid Station there will not be a new piste. There is a cat track. I dont think they can prevent anyone from getting out for the Off Piste . All remains to be seen.
One thing for sure there is going to be a hell of a lot of construction work this summer.
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

The tunnel isn't closed this summer so it won't be an issue.

Looks like there'll be works at night only, then closed again in summer 2017.

^There's been works at night (one direction at a time swapping every 30 mins) for about the last 18 months.
Summer roadworks past the Arlberg on the way to IBK have already started again though, with several km down to 60km/h
Happily I'm moving back to Innsbruck at the end of June so won't have to deal with the drive too much longer!

Drove round to Alp Rauz today to ski St Christoph/St Anton area. Nice firm snow up top, a bit slushy lower down but pretty reasonable really. Big problem today was visibility - misty early on so we went high on Valluga, got some great views over the inversion then the clouds came in. Cloud/mist was patchy but we seemed to make the wrong call at every juncture so spent most of our time in the mist.

British Kid probably owes his life to a Police Dog
Last night 19yr old intoxicated British kid was spotted by the Police lying under a guardrail on the Arlbergstraße (B197). When they turned their patrol car around he had fled . It was snowing heavy, they called in a Police Dog & Mountain Rescue.
they found him in the forest on a steep embankment with No Jacket or Shoes hardly responsive and in deep hypothermia.
Hospitalized in Zams
Police said there was no reason for him to have fled.

Fool. They should hit him for the hospital bill and charge him with wasting police time. Intoxicated with whatever was in his pockets, hence why he ran?
