Sounds as though things are pretty good. It was a slush fest when I came out last season at this time. Arrive in St A on Sunday afternoon. For a fortnight.

I'm out 20-27th March, love spring skiing and sun deck apres. No new snow doesn't concern too much because I'm with friends who just want to cruise the pistes, which is fine by me.

Spring off-piste doesn't require fresh snow anyway, you just have to hope people play fair and get off the runs before they get too cut up

Some reports of about 10cm Tuesday. Likelihood?
Didn't feel the quake.
First day done. Piste conditions ok. Off piste close to pistes very average.

Who knows, didn't expect today to end as sunny as it did. I thought the pistes were in good nick today, exactly what I would expect for the time of year and weather, and either we got lucky and managed to avoid people all day, or it was just quiet on the pistes full stop. Skied Kapall in the afternoon and there was hardly anybody else on the piste with us.

@Mark1863, go to Stuben. Offpiste looked REALLY nice this morning when I drove through (though some wind affected snow in more exposed places).

Saturday was really fun in the Arlberg, smashing slushy moguls on piste all day. Doesn't get much better in spring!
Real moment of culture shock in Taps at the end of the day when the waitress didn't speak German though - particularly her surprise (and general grumpiness) that we ordered in German! I'd forgotten hat most of the bar staff in St Anton are Brits, but I guess I should have known from the painted on leopard print leggings she was wearing

@clarky999, Its unbelievable that even way over halfway through the season some staff still cannot manage simple orders in German.
I know (not personally)of some UK skibums who have been working for years in St Anton & still cannot or more to the point "Refuse" to converse in German
I guess if after a Brexit it will possibly become a lot more difficult for the businesses to employ UK staff unless they have been resident here for 5 years+.

Brexit... if we did vote to leave I might have to take up Austrian citizenship, just in case I wanted to work in Europe. Every now and then I yearn to be a skibum again;-)

No.1 son (14 YO) and I are grabbing a last minute week in St. Anton W/C27/03, and I would appreciate any local knowledge.
We have to arrange our own transfer from Friedricshafen (excuse spelling, but I am sure you know where I mean) and I was planning to hire a car.
1. Is there a better way (train, shared transfer etc.), or if we do end up with a hire car do I need chains as in France, should I ask for winter tyres or will it come with them etc. Are there any other unusual driving requirements or recommendations?
2. We are planning on getting some group lessons (He's happy on anything, me I can cope with red and easy blacks), but they seem to run all day rather than just in the morning. Do they do group lessons for a morning only allowing free skinning in the afternoon.
4. Do all day lessons restrict exploring other areas like Lech or should there be enough at St Anton to keep us occupied?
5. We have friends staying in St Christoph and after a little après I can see us being "stranded there" or them stuck in St Anton. Is a cab (weather permitting) between St Anton and St Christoph feasible, or extortionately expensive. This is another reason for avoiding "all day lessons" as we would like to meet them after lunch.
6. Any runs, bar or recommendations we should miss?
Obviously if you are recommending a bar that I might find you in I would be happy to buy you a beer.
Thanks for your knowledge and help.

@newby, There are transfers from Freidrichshafen - http://www.ski-express-stanton.com/index.php/home.html there might be others too. Car hire works too, you will get winter tyres by default in Germany. That said, train is probably the best option.
Not 100% sure but I think lessons are all day. Groups get around though, they might end up in Lech anyway.
There are buses from St Christoph, cabs are OK though, not cheap but affordable.
Recommendations... well, it's all good

@sah, Thanks, will check out the transfers, they are easier if we can make it cost effective.
Lessons, OK, it is difficult to gauge how far you can/will cover when looking at a piste map you don't know, perhaps we can have 3 or 4 days lessons and meet friends on the other 2/3.
Beers, cabs, buses etc., sounds like it would be difficult to go too far wrong.
Thanks

I'm glad I popped in here. Off to Lech Easter weekend via Zurich. Now although I did this last year I have no recollection of buying an Austrian vignette but I guess I did. Do you have to wait until you get to the border ? How much are they ?
Cheers

@dsoutar, They are €8.80 for 10 days. You can get them at various petrol stations etc before the border. Coming from Zurich I tend to pick one up just over the border just before I get on the autobahn.

Vignette Tip.
If your going for two weeks they sometime try to sell you a 2 month Vignetter. it is cheaper to buy two 10 day passes.
http://www.asfinag.at/toll/toll-sticker.
It is possible to drive to St Anton (From Germany & Switzerland)without using the Autobahn in which case you will not need the Vignette but if you do end up on the Autobahn the fines are HIGH between €300 & €3000 and cars with Swiss or German plates are high value priority

@stanton, good tip - I think you meant 2 month vignette, which is about €25, I don't think they sell a 1 month.

Thanks all for the info. No shared transfers seem to be available and seeing as it is Easter Sunday dont think i will rely on public transport. Hire car it is then.
Hiring a small car so will have a spare seat to and from St Anton if anyone wants a lift (timing permitting etc).
Maybe see you out there.....

Anyone skiing over the weekend fancy a few turns? No idea what conditions will be like - forecast talks of some disturbances - guessing at standard ho-hum, not warm enough for a good corn cycle nor enough mositure/cold for a good dump.

Where would you guys ski this weekend to avoid crowds? Just easy piste stuff before heading to silvretta tour on Monday. Would lech/zurs be less crowded? Staying in SA, but understand how to catch bus at alpe rauz. I have a full day sat and 1/2 day Sunday. Going to try and break in AT gear a bit more within the resort.

@Redwine, *usually* Easter is not that bad for crowds, it's not as busy as New Year or the Fasching / mid-Feb school-break period. However, with Easter being quite early it might be a bit busier this season. Also, Saturday tends to be fairly quiet too as a lot of week long guests leave or arrive that day so don't ski.
That said, Rendl is always quieter than the Galzig/Gampen side of the valley, so if it does look busy head up there.
