I stupidly got them the Ski A La Carte pass instead of the hassle of going to the lift pass office for free passes. They are 4 and 5 and *should* ski free in Paradiski totally.
|
I don't think I've missed the point at all. Yes, the thread might well have saved others making the same mistake. That's a good thing and the discussion about what the website actually says will have contributed to that. My only quarrel has been with the suggestions that the entire thing is "immoral" and "disgusting" and that the key information was buried "in the small print". I have also pointed out that the children would have been able to ski free, according to the website, only if 2 adults bought the same pass for the same duration (and not at all if the adult passes fell into certain categories, including non-consecutive days or a La Plagne season pass).
And unlike some of the more intemperate contributions to this thread I would assert that mine have been factually correct, and avoided rudeness and personal insults.
It seems, from those with local knowledge, that adults aren't always required to show their lift passes to get free passes for kids, or to buy them at the same time. Maybe, if she'd had this bit of local knowledge the OP could have got the kids free passes, even without a lift pass of her own, if she had, despite the hassle, gone to the lift pass office.

pam w, When you order a Ski La Carte pass you have to give your DOB and also your 'home' resort. Assuming the lady in question filled the form out correctly then the company took an order for 2 kids they knew were skiing in la Plagne and they were of an age where lift passes are free for La Plagne. To me that is wrong. There was no benefit they can sell in this case is there? A decent company would surely have contacted the person placing the order and explained they could get free passes. Sounds more like how a Spanish time share firm works?
It is not hidden on the Ski La Carte website but it is not very clear the kids situation and I know as we came very close to making the mistake. She is not the first to make the mistake and sadly she won't be the last. I have a Ski la Carte pass and I shall ring them Monday to tell them what I think of their business practices and that I won't be renewing next year.
I shall also through my account area on their website make them aware of this thread.

that sounds a good idea. Shimmy Alcott, apology accepted. By the way, I've met Lizzard and she looked less than 39 to me.
We still don't know how much the OP would have had to pay for 4 passes, for 2 adults and 2 small kids, for a month, and what the difference is between that sum and what they were charged by ALC.

Hasn't she already said that she is being charged 900 euro for the kids when they would have been free. So 900 euro out of pocket?
Her first post.

thefatcontroller, not if they bought season passes (which I assume they did having been there a month) - because in that case kids DON'T get free passes.

clarky999, no, they didn't buy season passes, they had the A La Carte thingy. Which officially would NOT have entitled them to free kids lift passes. I suspect they would have had to pay more for two adult one month passes (and the free ones for the kids) than they did for the 2 adult ALC deals - which is why I suggested a couple of pages ago that if they'd gone that route, though it would probably have been cheaper than having paid so much for the kids, the difference could well be less than 950 euros. Which would make the thing seem a bit less horrendous.
|
|
|
|
|

However since the OP threw toys out of pram some pages ago, at my outrageous and unfounded suggestion that she had felt it was too much hassle to go to the lift pass office, we shall probably never know.

Oh god, this has been covered to death. I have been on holiday to Les Arcs and La Plagne with under 6 kids. I have on many occasions walked into a lift pass office with passports to show the kids age and free lift passes have been handed over with no check on mine. Others have confirmed they have had the same experience. Please keep up.

pam w, All you are arguing about, which incidentally the OP is not, is how much she would have paid for her/adult lift passes. No matter what she would have paid for hers the kids would still be freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Yes. So her "loss" because of the ALC deal is equivalent to the total paid to ALC LESS the cost of two adult lift passes for a month (ie what she would have had to pay if she'd gone to the lift pass office). I would suggest (as I am waiting for my supper to cook....) that as she asserted that her loss was the entire amount charged for the kids, she doesn't actually know what that would have cost her.
Presumably, the ALC deal was cheaper than two adult lift passes for a month. If it wasn't then buying into the ALC deal was an even bigger cockup, even leaving the kids completely out of the picture.

pam w, Sorry no idea what you are talking about re the finances. With Ski La Carte you get billed at the end of the month for whatever you did that month and you pay the bill on approx 7th month after. The bill shows each person and each day they skied and the cost per skier per day. So when the OP says the kids cost 900 euro her adult prices are irrelevant. She may have saved money on adult prices but no matter what her kids should have been free.
Anyway have made Ski La Carte aware of this thread through my account.

pam w, I think with ALC it depends on whether you ski every day, as pass is charged daily. You get a pass for 1€ on days 9, 13, 17 and every fourth day after that (I think)

I've resisted commenting on the renamed version of the old holiski card originally launched by CDA.
CDA still offer shareholder discounts -
a 6 day pass at any of the listed resorts for those holding 400 shares or more which would cost around £5,700 or 6,800€ at current prices. There's also a current dividend yield of 5% is a pretty good deal as the pass is not taxable so before taxe consolidates at around 8.5% Just a thought for the wealthier Snowheads on the forum

I think Voice of Treason probably sums things up rather succinctly and accurately.
Ironically, when 'Snowheads' is Googled, the following description is given under each result: "snowHeads ski club 2.0 is the friendliest ski club ever"!

It's a nice add on for visitors/parents/children etc if you do live out there. I normally buy a season, however my wife uses 1 or 2 weeks so if I have the spare cash on day. his will be an attractive option. What does the 6-7 years? in your comment mean/refer to as it doesn't make sense (to me)

Jivebaby, If you shell out 5.7k and get 5% div every year + free lift pass (£600?) then add the 2 together and after approx 6-7 years you gave your moneyback + free lift pass + 5% year on year. Unless I am missing something a huge return then?

thefatcontroller, The AGM in March will be interesting as ifirc profits are down in the region of 3 to 5%. It will be interesting to see if the dividend is maintained. BTW the way I read it, it is only one free 6 day pass per year for one resort ie LP or LA not Paradiski. But all the same a good investment nonetheless. - If you have the spare cash of course!
