Gilberts Fridge, Can do. It varies a lot though, last summer I skied the wall (the bit where the avalanche has been) in powder twice in August!
clare mcbride, Well, it can vary a lot but lately it's been about 10-15 degs by end of business each day. Too warm really, but T and a windbreaker is about it. In town it's been about 25 degs in the shade every afternoon and a lot more in the sun. There's a ski store at the glacier (currently €3 per night) but it's inadvisable to leave your boots up there as it's too cold at night and they're frozen the next morning. Most peeps go up in trainers and carry boots in rucksacks or such. Knee is much better thanks - skied without a brace today for the first time and it was fine.
Today was actually a bit colder, and I was silly enough to wear my shell trousers without leggings. I got cold! Quite windy and the temp dropped through the morning. The snow OTOH and rather bizarrely sogged out earlier than the last few days. This afternoon there was a fair bit of cloud, and some rumbles of thunder in the distance, a little bit of spitty, spotty rain but nothing much. It's now turned sunny and pleasant again. Temps are up around 20 degs at 18.40 in the evening. More painting in store!!!
I'm afraid I didn't take a photo today, but will try tomorrow.

Sorry I'm a bit late posting from yesterday! No work after 8 days straight, and I'm lounging today. It was a lovely hot, sunny day again, the snow got fairly sludgy late on but better than Sunday, and I had some beginners for a taster lesson. One of them managed (with help on the steeper sections) to get down the Puy Salié at the end. Very satidfactory. This only happens about once a summer of course, because the difference between the virtually flat nursery slope and the blue slopes down is too much of a jump, but if they seem to have lots of bottle and co-ordination it is possible using the sticks. Today is more of the same but I'm not going up. I may go tomorrow and ski down to 2,600m just for the hell of it on 2nd July!
Pick is looking up from Dome Sud at the queue of peeps waiting to go off the biggest air.

markyb, Lovely to meet you and your ladies. Replying to your email.
I probably won't go up again until the next students, which will be in a few days time (unless I manage to capture some at the camp sites in the valley), as I've got lots of DIY to do. I'd rather get ahead on that TBH. Hot and sunny though, and no sign of the forecasted storms, but it's quite windy down here.
I know I said I might go up and ski to 2,600 in July, just because I could, but I've gone off the idea I'm afraid - still it would have been possible.

easiski, Coming over next weekend but going to Pila first.
wanted to know the temperature for my mum who is coming over later in the summer and likes to be prepared for everything months in advance.
was unable to tell her what the temps are like at night in the summer as i often suffer "le pub" memory loss.
will have to catch up for a beer when i get out

Flow, I will, but I just wanted to know if pix of snowless mountains & flowers etc would be appreciated. I won't go up the hill if I'm not working now as I have loads of other things to do with the time. However, taking a few general snaps wouldn't be too hard!

Yes, keep the pics coming - we thoroughly enjoyed the summer beauty as well as the snow. We saw dozens of different flowers, though I was hoping for my first ever sighting of edelweiss, but I think we were a few weeks too early.

Ok, fine. Well, when I woke up this morning it was clear at just before 07.00, sunny and rather warm at 10 deg outside, but at 08.00 I thought it was getting a bit dark and went to switch on the lights ...... I saw this big black cloud approaching and could hear thunder. By 08.15 it was here! 2nd pic was taken from the doorway because the rain was right over the whole balcony and the trees were blowing around like crazy. Now 10 mins later the wind and thunder seem to have passed on, but it's still raining. The temp has dropped a bit, but I'm not hopeful for snow on the glacier.

easiski,
Hello, you up there ! We've arrived down here in Chautagne waiting for a turn in the weather, today being about the fourth day in a row of continuous heavy rain and thunder.
Were ready to rock on Thursday but still stuck. Is there any change in sight in the nearby future ?
France Meteo not reliable enough to give us an indication about tomorrrow up there.
Need advise today for getting up tomorrow or Tuesday .... Thursday !
Thanks, like always .......

arv, It usually isn't enough to cover the petrol, but I'm hopeful for one family last night. fingers crossed. I love the summer, but it's always a struggle financially, and every year I say 'I can't do this again', and then I do .... glutton for punishment I reckon. I got home just in time to see them coming back out onto court for the final session - fab tennis, but I soooo wanted Federer to do it again.
It's much colder today and has been a bit cloudy. It's only just managed to get to 12 degs here. I took a pic of the Valentin and Belle Etoile in their summer finery to keep you all happy today.

hi easiski, looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks
can you advise on the best/closest largish supermarket to LDA for us to stock up on food on the way up to the resort? I guess there must be one in Bourd D'Osians?
thanks

Roger C, there's a new big one (Super Casino) just off the Bourg d'Oisans bypass (the LDA end), but we found the Marche U in LDA had all we needed at a reasonable price.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Roger C, Also looking forward to seeing you again. I reckon the Casino in Bourg is more expensive than the Marche U up here, but it does have a bit more choice. Our prices are not really elevated, as as soon as they came everyone stopped going down the mountain to shop every week. I did stop in to the Casino the other day and found the rasperries and blueberries very expensive. Buy the Marche U own brand and it's about 30% cheaper than the UK.
Again a cold night and a fresh morning. Nice and sunny with a bit of a breeze down here, but none further up in the town AFAICS. Today you have pix of the wild roses just behind our garden fence, La Muzelle peeping out from the branches of my big tree, and the view of the bank behind my place.
