Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looks good. Looks like there will be a week of very cold weather when it finally stops snowing, keeping everything in good condition for Christmas Smile

Likewise, the thought process went: who wants to go to the Village Opening, with all those rubbish conditions eh?

We're out on 12th Jan (and again at Easter) so won't overlap you, but hopefully we'll get some decent snow before then Very Happy

Damn but it looks good.

Agree with much of what has been said re slopeside eateries being crowded if you don't time it right. The Hotel Vanoise is always another good stopping point for "no crowdedness", and has a nice sun terrace. Of course it is quite close to the Squirrel, so its often a tough choice...

Hi all, fist leap into this forum, just wondering how accessible Les arcs 1950 is at the moment by car. First time to les arcs leaving from the UK on Sunday. pictures look awesome snowHead

nisaacs, welcome to snowHeads. The road clearance around the resort is very good, so I'd say that unless you are arriving in a blizzard it should be OK. Access to Arc 1950 is very straightforward - simply drive in to the underground garage direct from the main road (which will be cleared by snowploughs). Very occasionally the road up to Arc 1950 and 2000 is closed, but those are exceptional events. Regardless of the weather you should always carry snowchains, not least because the local police will send cars without chains back down the hill if conditions are very bad.

Agree about finding a Les Arcs restaurant - Does anyone know which ones take bookings and which dont?
Trouble with booking though is you have to be so organised and decide in advance where you are going!

jayne durham, the only one I've booked is Chalet de l'Arc. I think the restaurant part of L'Arpette also take bookings, as does the Alpade du Chantel restaurant at my place. I'm sure that others do as well.

nisaacs, you've got perfect timing for your trip. The snow will be in excellent condition, the resort quiet so no queues anywhere, but that nice warm glow of the first week of the season Smile

sami, Yes, you can buy chains in BSM. Most garages and supermarkets in the region will sell them, and usually much cheaper than they are in the UK. But be warned, if your car has unusual size tyres you might not get the right size chains, especially as you are there at a busy time and the stocks might be quite low.

sami, E bay has several shops selling chains at sensible prices. Buy them here one less thing to worry about over there Very Happy

Here's a few 1st Dec and 9th Dec comparison shots from 1950 to whet the appetite of those there for the opening weekend - strangely though we decided not to go, I am still drawing more comfort from these shots than envy Very Happy
