Just returned and had a great time. There was enough snow to make it an enjoyable return to skiing after 20 years! Skiing all the way down to the village (Villeneuve) was a bit tricky as some of the easier routes were closed. Thanks to Helen Beaumont for suggesting Serre in the 1st place to me. We're considering going back later this year. What's it like in April!!!?

HARRYMAC2702, I would guess about 20-30cms extra. Very strong winds during the night has exposed the tops of some of the peaks though! A powder day today but I can't get out 'till lunchtime so I'll have missed the best stuff.

Skied in slush from 1pm. Unheard of in January. Very very warm (13c on the valley floor). At these temps the snow will disappear.

easiski, you got to make the most of what you got, and personally i think what we got is ok! not great but ok!
btw liam injured again! dislocated shoulder from over shooting a kicker for a photo shoot. Got a super photo for the magazine Snowtime so look out for it. Luckily he's done no damage so just 10 days off riding and 15 days of physio, it could have been much worse!

Nice pics snowangel. The second looks up to La Dray(?) if I'm not mistaken - scene of probably my worst crash. The French woman who saw it was making the signs of the cross! Beyond is Les Vallons - first proper run that I did on my very first day.
Second photo shows the mid station entrance to the Luc Alphand? Still my fav black. Ahhh the nostalgia.

Mark Hunter, your recollection seems pretty good Mark, I hurt my shoulder on La Dray.

What's a town? Zermatt is higher!
|
|
|
|
|

laundryman, it is the highest city, not town, because it has a prefecture all of its own!
Once apon a time a long time ago brianconais was actually a country with briancon its capital city, or i'm told this by a long standing member of the community, i'd like to call him a local but he's danish!!!! So it may or may not be 100% true!
There are approx 30,000 people living in brianconais and there is 15,000 people in briancon itself.
The city Vauban is called that due to the person who built it was called vauban and he also built most of the forts around the area, of which there are 4 in and around briancon and many more surrounding, inc montgenevre.
Briancon are in the proces of trying to sell some of the forts to rich business men, for what purpose god only knows.
there you go, the end of the useless info i know about briancon!
