I'm looking for insurance and LV was my first port of call but I'm not totally happy with the many restrictions, limits and excesses. Using the link on MPI for Clearskies I got a quote which seemed too good to be true, so I checked the company info on the government site and it says it was dissolved via compulsory strike-off back in January this year.
It seems extraordinary that the website appears to still be fully functioning and selling policies.
Am I misunderstanding something here?

@motyl, I think you are down the wrong rabbit hole. Clearskies Insurance is a trading name of Ancile Insurance Group Limited Co no 05429313 which is still operating.
There are a good number of companies called Clear Skies of Clearskies some of which have been dissolved.

@chocksaway, Thanks - I did wonder but what’s confusing me is that the defunct company has (had) Michael Pettifer as the director. I just don’t trust what I’m seeing.

@Hurtle, they don’t have an option to buy a waiver for the excesses which I like to do, and when I take into account the value of my possessions after wear & tear, the only cover I’m really buying is medical and cancellation etc.
They also require receipts for possessions being claimed for and that skis should be locked up - not that it could possibly be established whether or not that is done. MPI was a better deal, but sadly no more.

I got this email last week, alternate insurance already sorted!
We are writing to inform you that your Multi Trip insurance policy is due to expire shortly.
It is with regret we have to inform you that we are currently not able to issue any new policies as we are in the process of moving insurers. However, once done, we expect to include all the usual great cover MPI offers, and hopefully some enhanced areas too!
If you are looking to travel shortly, please email us and we will endeavour to seek an alternative insurer for the time being.
To check your current expiring policy, please go to YourMPI account - www.mpibrokers.com, along the top you will see a drop down called ‘Logins’. If you hover over this, a menu will appear, select YourMPI. You will then be prompted to log in where you can view current and old policies.
We do apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, and we will be in touch just as soon as we concluded matters with the new underwriter.

@kitenski, I wonder if MPI realise how significantly they have lost the trust of regular customers by dealing with their problems in the way they have. I would not go back to them.

Agreed. I was with MPI for a couple of years and had no problem with them, but the last 2 or 3 years I've been with LV. MPI's recent poor customer service as experienced by several posters on this thread has put me off considering them, even if they should get back up and running.

Generally yo7 are better off covering your more valuable possessions through your household contents insurance as specified items. Travel insurance is generally a wear and tear deduction too. Really travel insurance is primarily medical and cancellation insurance.

I've also used MPI a number of times over the years and, likewise, my current policy with them is about to expire I'm struggling to find an alternative at a less than eyewatering price. The combination of age ( 71 at time of renewal ) medical condition ( elevated blood pressure - under observation but not yet treatment) and the desire to occasionally dabble off-piste seems to wave an armful of red flags as far as insurers go.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be delighted to hear them.

@nickH, Nationwide (Flexplus account policy) were happy to insure high BP on no medication without a change in premium, and also on one drug without any increase. They have however changed their underwriters/providers so that may now have altered. They do insure over 70s now without an additional premium.

"The new Aviva travel insurance policy will still be a worldwide family travel insurance. However, there are some changes to what and who is covered.
The main changes include:

I've just insured us for five weeks with good to go for £150 which I thought was a great price, never used them before but the feedback they have is good , will only find out if we have to claim, most others wanted over £300
|

@albob, yes I know that, but evidence suggests that they are making up for that lack of the need for an upgrade with increased amounts for medical conditions.

I've had a phone call past two nights from 0333 212 7798, google shows it might be from an "insurance company" - I wonder if this is related to my MPI policy expiring?
