Hotel Kendler, Saalbach. Have seen a good option but have read reports of a noisy night club / lap dancing club attached, believe it is called "Why Not"
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

@nahdendee, There is the lap dancing club, we have eaten there a few times in the Herzlstubn at the Kendler, I've not had any noise and it pretty much sitson top of the venue, the hotel has an excellent reputation, I do wonder why they feel the need to have a lap dancing club

We stayed at the Kendler last year and our room was at the back of the hotel - we didn’t hear anything from the club at any point during our stay.
What we did hear at certain times throughout the night was the piste basher, but I suppose that is the price you pay for being so well situated for the slopes.
Overall I thought it was a fantastic hotel and would happily stay there again, my only complaint being that the temperature in the bar area was absolutely scorching at night!

Hi, we always stay at the Hotel Saalbacher Hof so drink in the hotel bar there and then head out to other bars (e.g. Soulhouse, Otzi, Scwipps etc) but as we are now in middle-age its less about jumping about on a dance floor and more about late night drinks and catching up. With this in mind are there other hotel bars we should be trying? Places where on the outside it may look quiet but actually has a good bar and vibe in there?

@snorks, Burgis has good vibe and not too much Austrian apres music. Eva Alm though it never gets rowdy it’s a favourite , decent music and an occasional live band, good place if you want to talk to people.
Napoli even though it does excellent pizza you can go there for a drink, can get busy

@snorks, Napoli has good Pizza far better than the place passed the Panther (and now in the old Hungry Deer) and Bobby"s, it is more of a restaurant than bar.

Hi all, Just booked an apartment, a week pre christmas 17th-24 Dec at Haus Kresl. Seems to be just on th edge of Saalbach. Anyone know it and what do you think? Very good value for 6 nights B & B. Will be skiing alone as wife non skier and will be working remotely. If anyone is in the area and wants a ski buddy, very happy to meet up. Any other advice welcome.

@Old Man Of Lech, and anyone else who is visiting Saalbach this season:
I’m going to be there throughout the season and available for some companionable skiing. Just message me whenever. (And remember I have a number of British friends, who rent out apartments in Saalbach - always happy to put a message around).

@Pejoli, for ski equipment hire I always recommend Hansi’s Best-Price (next door but one to Bobby’s Pub at the bottom of the main village street). Hansi is very accommodating, has excellent equipment, speaks fluent English, and (as it’s his own business) will bend over backwards to endure that you’re happy with his service.
He will usually beat or match any other quote, will give an additional discount for mentioning that I recommended you to go to him, and he will offer you a welcome schnapps.

@tatmanstours, does Hansi's Best-Price do any servicing? My new skis have done two weeks now and could do with a wax, which I plan on getting done when I get to Saalbach.

@Old Man Of Lech, I would say it is, you are quite a way up the hill, we were on a shuttle from the airport and dropped some people of there and at the hotel next door.
The Ski bus starts at the Schoneleiten bahn, I think there is stop at the bottom of the hill which would be for the ski bus between Viehofen and the Schoneleiten, or you can pay to use the local 680 bus, the last bus from the Schattberg is around 7pm
You could drive down and park at the Schoneleiten then take the ski bus, if you are looking at apre, then a cab back is going to be around €20 from Saalbach centre , there are some good places to eat nearish to your apartment, we eat regularly at the Tiroler Baum it has some of the best food in the area, but will also do a fabulous pizza, you also have the Liebe Heimat which according to Mrs Radar does the best Kiserscharm in Saalbach, then there is also the restaurant at the lift station which is open in the evening, all walkable in about 20 minutes according to Googlemaps, you can probably eat next door at hotel Eggerhof. You may want to ask your apartment if they have an arrangement to use their shuttle to the lift.
Sorry that’s not much on the accommodation!

Update on the works at the bottom of 40 and the Hochalmbahn, you can now see that they are building a bridge across the road (yippee) so no more tow rope to the Nordbahn (due to be replaced next year), you will then get a choice of going down to the Nrodbahn or the Hochalmbahn

@radar, am I right in thinking the bridge won't be completed this year as the cold weather will stop progress or will they keep going right up to Christmas?

@snorks, there is a bridge on the 2023-2024 piste map so perhaps suggests ready for the season?

@snorks, it will be ready , there is no bridge there at the moment the old one has been removed, (you can see the temporary bridge in the picture) and the piste basher was doing some mowing.

@Old Man Of Lech, by coincidence we walked past the apartments today, I was relived that I hadn't got it wrong, we walked the "Sunny side" of the valley from Saalbach to Jausen.
The apartments are right next to the Hotel Eggerhof, which is three separate buildings and a nice sun deck and pool (might be closed in December LOL), the apartments are right next door, pictures below.
The Apartments and hotel were at the end of our circular walk, which we meant walked what you will be in December , you won't be able to walk in in ski boots, it's a good ten minutes down hill in normal shoes and its on the steep side to the bus stop which is on the ski bus route, it's tarmac all the way, it's another 5 minutes on to get to the restaurants I mentioned if you wanted to eat out.
A car or transport is a must
Piste 2a (blue) or 161a (red) get you back , having walked across 161, not sure you can ski back to the Apartment.

Not yet booked for march 24 either 1st or 2nd week have been busy and not got round to it but will do this next few days . Seems central saalbach hotel prices have risen far more than any inflation rate but most have availability even for 10 days . However in the first year of covid we were booked to go to the thurnerhof for a few days then covid came along as we where en route and we had to cancel as saalbach was one of the hotspots( ended up in schladming ) but the hotel graciously accepted our decision without taking any monies and feel honour bound to give them a chance of my business but have not seen a mention or missed it of the hotel this last couple of years . Im aware its a little out of town but taxis arnt a problem if late returning after a bit of apres . Anyone stayed there ?

@ski for fun,Apologies as I’m not answering your question, We walked passed the hotel the other week, it does look good and sits in a nice location , we were impressed by it, I would check if they have a shuttle service to the lifts, you are right that taxis in Saalbach aren’t a problem you would be looking at around €20+ for a taxi , we had a couple of taxis in the summer and noticed that they had increased.

Thanks radar ,Aparently they do have a shuttle service its more a question of times of operation after lifts shut .Mornings wouldnt be a problem as the ski bus runs both ways just below the hotel if their shuttle bus is full /delayed . Will contact the hotel to find out more info .

@ski for fun, you can take the 680 bus from the Schattberg Xpress, you will have to pay €2.20, though some drivers don’t bother if there’s too many skiers, last bus is 19.22.
Download the Salzburg Verkehr app, it will give you 680 times as well as the ski bus times
