Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

As we wanted to practice our boarding we got bus from 2000 down to 1600 and the snowline was about 1700. Had great fun on Mont Blanc. Visibility is shoite in parts but snow good. Now in Areptte having a coffee. Arrived via a face plant in front of everyone. Wicked.

We can snowboard!!

For the geeks. Mont Blanc. 10 mins 30 seconds. Pre Saint Esprit. 15 mins.

In for lunch, shattered, snowboarding is so hard. After coffee in Arpette we went up the Arpette lift and then across to Transarc and amazingly we came down from Transarc into the bowl via the red 'plagnettes' on our boards. Not bad. Visibility at about 1800 was awful but the bowl is lovely.

Taking our skis out after lunch. Still snowing lightly at 2000m. Sun is shining, of to find some powder, which won't be hard Toofy Grin

Boris, can't disagree with web cam as I can't see them as I am in Varet gondola heading to Glacier. Cloudy one minute. Constant light snow. Sun shining every now and then. There live weather report. Got to go gondola arrives at halfway point.

red 27, no idea. My mate reckons a good 4 inches and its still snowing heavy in the bowl. Didn't go up glacier as cloud has set in and visibility wasn't great. However not often you get to the glacier lift at 2.45 and you can go straight on it. In the mushroom bar in the middle for a beer.

i was on the top of the aguile rouge today and i would say 10cm min. and nearly that on the top of the glacier chair. very very bad vis at times and was a pick down piste pole to piste pole job. most of the blacks are either closed or very ugly bumps with rocks in places. some nice bumps in the 2000 bowl between the two main chairs.

Came in about 4pm, very tired, the boarding this morning has nearly killed us both. Still snowing hard up in 2000. Going home tomorrow but don't have to leave till 1pm so can get a few hours skiing done in the morning.

A few inches of snow fell overnight and has continued throughout the day. Good snow to be found high up but visibility constantly varies between ok and "which way does the piste go?" We were in la plagne but reports from the les arcs side much the same. Finding the vanoise express was interesting...

The snow line is quite high now so lower pistes are a slushy horrible wet mess. Pretty soggy in higher villages too, got my trousers a bit wet walking around in plagne bellecote which is about 1950m.

Rained all last night and still raining now in Vallandry. Raining at the Arpette and higher later on this afternoon.
First day up the hill in LA since Saturday, very mixed, there is some new snow, probably about 10-15cm up top. Visibility was a major problem but well, we still had some fun... relatively.
Foret has tarmac showing through in many places, they will have to sort that out tonight.
Lower runs are like treacle... or horrible sticky porridge - which ever you prefer.

Skied almost all day in the 2000 bowl, in light snow. The fresh snow overnight has improved piste conditions, but it's still warmer than usual for mid-March (max 5 degrees on my balcony at 1800m) so the snow got heavy and cut up as the day went on. On relatively gentle terrain the snow got a bit glazed (from the high water content) where is was compressed by traffic and became, as one of my clients put it, f**king fast. It was rather fun. Given how much cloud was around it wasn't too bad at the top of the 2000 bowl, so we lapped around on the Arcabulle and Plangnettes chairs with enough visibility to be getting on with. The ski down from Arpette to Arc 1800 was very cloudy for almost all the journey, but not sure if it was like that all day.

It snowed quite hard at Arc 1800 from about 4pm to 7pm, but has now cleared up and the temperature is beginning to drop.

allanm, Yes, we made a point of noting that when we set off. Unfortunately it only guarantees you're on *A* piste, not necessarily the correct piste, as we found out a couple of times today!

Morning. Sun shining in 2000. Got a few hours skiing to do before heading to Geneva for our flight. Going to go play in the bowl. Everything aches after boarding yesterday. It is so much easier to learn to ski than board. Still we did reds yesterday which aint bad.

More seriously, it was a lovely today in Les Arcs. The Arc 2000 bowl was above the clouds all day, and the snow was great for most of the day. It started to get a bit heavy after 3pm, but was great up until then.

Found much the same as rob@rar today, plenty of pockets of untracked snow to be found without being too adventurous.
We were just about last on Grizzly... so must have been a fun today wink

Not sure that the canons in Peisey or Vallandry will be working again this season unless the [Vallandry] reservoir fills up again, apparently it had 'developed a hole'.....

Although people here are saying this is the worst snow conditions for at least 15yrs, business generally is fine and numbers are similar to last year. Appartently many French, in particular from the north will come down here just for the sun, and are not too bothered about the snow conditions.

Home, great week and conditions way better than we expected reading some of the posts on here. Got to ski the bowl till 11.30am today and it was glorious. We were the first on Arcubulle up and got to ski Plagnettes second, it was flat, soft and cordoroy lined. Not often you get than on Plagnettes.

Thats us finished for this season. Have a good time those heading out and I hope conditions do improve. Speak next year.

As an side for the first time travelling back to Geneva we went Albertville to Annecy via the lake. Much nicer, very easy to follow the route, saves a few miles, fewer tolls and I reckon about 15 minutes of journey time? Will do in future instead of going through Chambery.

Oh yesssss! Very Happy Very Happy (Though I've only done that in summer.) The other trick - say on a busy August day, when the caffs and restos are clogged up with tourists - is to hire a rowing boat in Talloires and take a picnic out on to the lake. Bathers, book, picnic, et voilà - a perfect day.

I once had lunch at Père Bise, when it still had three stars. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had -but that was in another life entirely.

Laughing To be honest it's all a bit much. 8 months, possibly 9, between my first trip to the mountains this season and the last one. My skiboot shaped feet aren't quite sure what's hit them.
