LG has had snow to village level last 2 days, about 1200. Wed morning was superb, fresh powder and great viz. Rained yday afternoon below 1400, but been snowing overnight into Thursday. Fri and Sat are forecast to be dry, warmer, with occasional sun. How bad.

@Mister T, Thanks for update. Did you get to Avoriaz? How are the conditions over there? I think I will pack some spare gloves as I fly out on Saturday.

@langball, What are conditions like towards start of Chavannes Express? Is it OK to ski that far down into Les Gets resort. Morzine looks rubbish towards the resort.

I'm going on Sunday so watching the webcams - I can't answer for anyone else but the Les Gets webcams show slopes looking skiable into Les Gets village and snow falling up at the top of Chavannes lift.

Been able to ski to village all season down the Chavannes. The only patchy part is bottom of mont chery (as its south facing). Reckon we've had 20-30cm since tues above 1400m. Just slowing down now, was hard to see today, snow quite wet and sticky but soft powder off piste everywhere

isn't that "quite wet and sticky snow off piste"? Powder snow is dry (ie can't make snowballs with it).
|
|
|
|
|
|
Ok technically not powder, but the off piste is great, fresh, soft and deep

It's been snowing/raining pretty much non-stop since Tuesday, seems to have stopped now and with the forecast for no more precipitation tomorrow and even some sun. Constant rain in Morzine town centre, hence the greenery around, but the snowline is just below the top of Super Morzine so plenty of fresh snow when heading over to Avoriaz. In fact, with it falling all day, the pistes are getting refreshed with fresh snow regularly. Quite wet and heavy, though.
With the snow/rain, the visibility has been poor to very poor for much of the last 2-3 days, with one upside of this being that there have been far fewer people on the slopes. This has been the case throughout the whole of the Avoriaz side.

@langball, @pam w, @doorman_tom, Thank you all for your posts.
One more day to go. Looking forward to re-visiting Les Gets. It's been a couple of years now. Tad more snow next couple of days followed by some clear blue skies would be lovely. I can dream/hope..... but as long as I can get some skiing done I will be very happy.

Where was everybody today? PLJ carpark was pretty busy, yet the slopes empty.
We were the only people in happy valley, then we rode under the Rochasons 3 times, and were the only ones there. I could understand the disparity between the number or cars and people if it were inclement, and the Perdrix Blanche was rammed to the gunnels with people sheltering from the elements, but it was mild, with no wind, good visibility, nice soft snow.
Or do people leave thier car at PLJ on a Sunday to make sure they have a space the rest of the week?

First day in Avoriaz. Cant see a thing. Went over to Chatel area and it was a bit clearer lower down. Really hard to navigate. Lift could be 20 m away but you couldn't see it. Lifts virtually empty though. Some kids threw a snow/iceball at me while I was stopped under a lift. Actually quite a good shot as it hit me on the hand, but irritating...

Similar experience in Morzine today...
We stopped at the bottom of the Charniaz/Troncs lifts and the restaurants were dead - speaking to the staff we were one of a handful of customers all day
Visibility was horrendous - navigated from the top of the Troncs lift from memory don't think you could see more than 10ft in places.
Hoping for better weather tomorrow

Out this weekend too. Staying in Les Gets. Looked like some rain on the webcams this morning. Could do with a decent top up Thursday and Friday. Have 2 beginners with us so hope they have some decent snow to learn on. Fingers crossed. Hope you all have a good week.

Forecast was to start as rain up to 1500m today, then the snowline drops all day, should be snowing in village this evening. Heavy snow forecast next few days to low levels and then will prob get some rain again on Friday afternoon at village level, but generally it's going to snow a lot, up to a meter according to GFS.

I'm another one out next week for our regular lads' trip. If the forecasts come good it is looking like a decent week.
Just checked the Avoriaz piste info and it looks like a few of the higher lifts are closed for wind.

Yep, 5c and hosing it down with rain today in Morzine. It's definitely a paperwork day. 1500m snowline looks about right from my window.
It's going to snow to low levels on and off until the weekend but it's too late in the season for anything to stay (on the grassy slopes) for more than a few days. Next week looks like being one of the better weeks of the season for those coming from this weekend. Above 1500m is pretty good and possibly above average for the time of year. Below that level is decidedly below par.

So, talk about 4 seasons in one day - out this morning in and around Charniaz/Nyon and got well and truly drenched - like skiing in a shower - elevation made no difference. Went out again after a leisurely lunch to more rain, but by 3pm it was snow all the way.
Called it a day at 4:30 and i'm still drying out now.
Just wandered up to the the local bar in Essert and it's just started to snow again - things looking good for tomorrow

I'd also be interested to know this - we're coming on Saturday and hiring a car from Geneva. It will have winter tyres but chains are an optional extra.
My view is that we'll be fine driving from Geneva to Les Gets on winter tyres and that we shouldn't need chains - but I would be interested to know the opinion of the locals.
Cheers!

The roads will be fine for winter tyres. I wouldn't expect you'll need chains unless you've not got winter tyres or are driving up to Avoriaz. If the snow keeps falling at the same rate the gendarmes will be at the bottom of route d'avoriaz forcing everyone to put their chains on as they always do on snowy transfer days. They clear the roads quickly and effectively at 1000m although this is looking like the biggest snowfall of winter at that level

Lots of fresh snow down to low levels. About 30cm in my Morzine drive.
Great conditions in Linderets today. 40-50cms off piste. Pretty light and no obvious bottom to it. Becoming windy as I left at lunchtime. Still snowing pretty hard.
