The car park in Ardent to get the bubble is probably bigger than the area containing the chalets. As a base to get to the slopes its ideal. If you want somewhere to eat in the evening, enjoy walks around the town or go shopping it is really not suitable.

But..... If your kids are young and you simply want a nice chalet to retire to while someone cooks your dinner as you play with the nippers then it may be ideal.

Managed to get a few runs down under the Perrier lift at lunch today, thought the off piste was holding up really well (at least down to 1400m). Nice tree runs if you head immediately left off the lift and back under it. Although the sun was out most of the time, I like the flat light too.

@simpic, Ardent is probably the best access point to skiing the PDS. Also ideal with kids as you can get them in the gondola with you carrying all the clutter rather than having to get them all skied, gloved, etc, etc at the bottom.
Once up to the top of the gondola you have a choice of three fast chairs leading to (from left to right) top of Rochassons to head over to Chatel (Plaine Dranse), above Brocheaux to ski down to the Mosettes lift for access to the Swiss side and above Avoriaz to ski through the village and over to the Fornet bowl or the blackruns at Hauts Forts. Descent back to Ardent is OK though it can get a bit chopped up at the end of the day and "chaos corner" half way down can be a bit icy and ,well, chaotic. download on the gondola is a perfectly decent option as well.

But, @DJL, absolutely useless if you want a nightcap after dinner.

If I still had young kids it would be my first choice. When you have a bunch of ankle biters you need min hassle and max convenience. @under a new name,
Most of your after dinner nightcaps are at mine

.....and back to the weather....
In Morzine the upper slopes are still good, but the Reds down to village level have been closed all week, and the blues are horrible come 3pm. It has started snowing tonight, but only light and the hotelier is suggesting it'll be cold but dry for the next 2 days.

@jamescollings, Thanks James. Heading out next Saturday. Lower slopes not sounding good. Not much snow in the forecasts right now. Temperature this Sunday 6 degrees. Might spend more time over Avoriaz side.

Well I think we got more snow than we expected - we`ve been covered down in Montriond so up in Morzine, Ardent, Les Gets it must be even more.
It is distinctly colder this week. I`ve needed a coat!

Heuristics should tell you all you need to know about services available in Ardent:
How many people live there all year round?
Not sure, but I would say somewhere between 2 and 12.
That'll give you an idea as to what to expect in the way of services.
By comparison, Linga is a bustling metropolis.

'The Haka' for sure. Also had the cheapest happy hour drinks last time I was there - their facebook alleges €3.50 a pint!

Loads of lovely new snow today. The Coupe du Monde run was open in Avoriaz (but leg zapping moguls all the way down). The lower slopes into Morzine looked better, but red wasn't open this morning (wasn't there this pm). The runs into LG have been open all week. There is no real reason for holidaymakers to be concerned (unless skiing to the door of the Tremplin is an essential thing for you!).
The Haka will be showing the 6nations, but you will need to remind them if your game is on ITV, otherwise you'll be watching Escape to the Country and miss the Anthems (as we did last Sunday). The best price beer is by the jug

I do love sitting at the Tremplin watching people come down Stade though. And I hate the run but I do it once per trip for psychological reasons, and alas, I'm coming over on Sunday 28th and looks like I won't get the chance this winter.
Anyone over Mt Chery direction and can comment on the snow over there?

I don't know why people get so concerned about skiing to the bottom of Morzine. Having said that we are nearly always able to ski back to pretty close to our chalet in Les Gets, and sometimes along the edge of the road and up the drive to the front door. But we have often taken the car somewhere so no big deal to drive home.
The Stade in Morzine is not one of my favourites either @Rois1980, but always quite pleased to do it and tick that off. I have seen small children being dragged down it and seemingly terrified which I think is just plain mean of the parent in charge at the time.

Did Mt Chery yesterday. All runs were good, and the red down to the bottom was eminently skiable.

Thank you - very encouraging. The red run over the back is my favourite piste in the PdS. Oh and Melezes (sp).

Not specifically Morzine, but I hate the idea of not being able to ski back to the village. I love the whole thing of staying in an alpine village surrounded by mountains and snow. If you can't ski back to the village, and preferably to the door, then you might as well stay somewhere grim like Brides Les Bains. There are times when I've downloaded in the last lift because if slushy snow, tired children etc. but it always feel like a bit of a failure. It probably shouldn't matter, but it does ..,. A bit.

Hi there. My wife is off on a girls trip to Les Gets in a few weeks. I've skied there plenty of times and we quite often do the "Rabbit Run" - Les Gets - Morzine - Avoriaz - Les Crosets - Champery - Champoussin - Morgins - Chatel and then back up to Avoriaz. It's great fun and she's really keen to do it.
Does anyone have a link to the "directions"? I know you have to take a couple of buses but I'm always with mates who know the route and I just follow.
Any advice welcome.

Always use this site so wanted to provid something back,
So... Snowboarded round alot of the resort today starting in morzine and heading out the morgins and back.
Morning was good with flat light conditions and light snow.
PM the wind got up and the now came down and visibility was low. Tough boarding.
However the pistes are in great condition above 1500mm with fresh snow today. Back down in morzine at 5.30 and the sadly the rain was coming down. However plenty of skiing/boarding for all. Enjoy!

Hello RHg76,
For the directions for the circuit, you will find them on any of the piste maps. Both going clockwise and also anti-clockwise. Only trouble is, they are in tiny print, particularly the clockwise one with white letters on black background.
I had to transfer onto a bit of paper in order to be able to see them without glasses. Must have been written by someone with VERY young eyes.

Re PDS circuit. The good news this year is that there is a lift link from super chatel to linga (in the intended direction only 1 lift required) this avoids the walk and bus from chatel village to linga. However still will need a bus - which is sporadic across Morgins (can walk but 15-20 mins uphill)
As long as you remember where you are heading in order ie Morgins, Chatel etc than there are clear signposts on the pistes to each area, can then choose which grade of run. Download PDS app /take piste map/ask liftie etc. so you can find out where you are.
My experience however is that if you just follow the circuit than you seem to proportionately spend a long time on lifts particularly on the Swiss side, though perhaps linga is the best place to get those extra runs in.

Very warm in Morzine today +9 at top of Pleney.
Raining now and warm. Local Forecast for temps to drop overnight and snowing to be be around 1200-1400 m.
Conditions today OK but becoming very slushy later. Piste G was open in awful lower conditions - when here in Jan it was closed in much better condition

How's the snow today? Morzine resort level looking green on webcams. Hope the snow predicted on some sites does arrive. 4 days to go

Looking at the village webcams it's very very green....
We fly out on Sunday so hoping things improve by then. We have some beginner kids ski lessons booked which are usually held on the bottom slopes but looking at the state of the lower slopes can only assume they'd take them to the top of the Pleney...

Snowing all day from below Pleney upwards some good turns to be had in admittedly wet snow. Below 1300, very wet conditions. Resort runs from Nyon side virtually non existent.
Turned to wet snow in Morzine now so tomorrow could be good However heavy rain forecast again at village level.
The upside of the rain is that after lunch the slopes were pretty empty

What's the latest? Flying out tomorrow for a long weekend, staying in morzine with full pds passes, looks pretty poor for resort runs but never mind, is is still good from mid mountain up?
|
|
|

Snow rain limit around 1300,to 1400 today
Higher runs OK to good, visibility OK to poor.
Resort level very green and wet. Home run B in surprisingly good Nick and skiable all the way down. Nyon side home run very very poor.
Have had a good few days, not sorry to be leaving as is still looks warm and damp for the next few days and I am fed up with wringing out my supposedly water proof gloves. Hope the weather is kinder next time.
