Murren village to Lauterbrunnen say 25 mins, Lauterbrunnen to Wengen 15 mins, Wengen to Kleine Schidegg 25mins or to the Mannlichen 15mins you may have up to 30 mins wait at lauterbrunnen depending on which trains you catch, going the other way you can be on the slopes at Murren slightly quicker by getting off the train at Winteregg and catching the chairlift from there

IncogSkiSno, it's possible but rare, more likely would be an hour, timetables are posted in all the stations and they'll even print one off for you if you ask at the ticket office so a 2 hour journey would be most unusual

D G Orf, But it is a 3 part journey Murren - Lauterbrunnen, Lauterbrunnen - Wengen and then Wengen village - to either Kleine Schidegg or Mannlichen. Did you allow waiting times in with the times you quoted then

IncogSkiSno, Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Schidegg is one journey the train just stops at Wengen for a couple of minutes included in the time mentioned above, going to the mannlichen requires you to get off the train at Wengen and walk 100yds to the mannlichen cable car, allowing 5 mins for the walk 5 mins wait and 5 mins journey time, frequently you can get off the Murren train and walk over and onto a Wengen train at Lauterbrunnen with just a few minutes delay, call it 70mins from Murren to Kl Schidegg with good conections

IncogSkiSno, for the way you've described your skiing Wengen would I think be better suited to you, Murren definately worth a day trip though
D G Orf, I realise that Wengen is more suited to my skiing, but I was considering maybe staying in Murren and skiing both, if not for this next trip perhaps for another year. That's why I was enquiring as to how long it took to get to Wengen pistes.

Chris Brookes, Hi Chris, I was reading DGO's report with your report of the Hotel you stay in. It sounds good, I love Hotels that have the early apres slopeside meeting terraces. That's what I enjoyed about my first Ski trips in Austria.

IncogSkiSno, I of course would suggest that you should stay in Murren and pop over to Wengen to ski as i feel Murren still offers the true rustic Alpine Swiss ski resort.
This year will also be the last year of taking the funnicular up from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp as next year they will be replacing it with a cable car.(been in operation since 1891 and climbs 1421m in approx 20mins)
You will be suprised how much 53 kilometres keeps you busy in Murren thou specially if you go off piste with a guide !!
D G Orf, day trip to Murren....

Chris Brookes, Ooo, now there's a thought, not sure if I'm good enough for off piste though What is the food like in that Hotel?

You know it makes sense.
IncogSkiSno, we dont actually stay there but always end up there after skiing and dinner as the food is excellent and we know the staff well. Ive seen the rooms in the lodge and the hotel and they are of good standard and kept very clean.

The food at the Jungfrau is really very good unless you fancy a chinese then i suggest you go to Tams situated on the bottom road.(be prepared that if its busy you might have to help out in the kitchen !! )
We have eaten everywhere in Murren and the overal standard is excellent but the Jungfrau Hotel is the one for us.The menu is changed daily using local produce (fish, meat etc)
You can always tell a good restaurant by how busy it is and if the local eat there too....which they do.

Chris Brookes, I know I would love it, I'm sure it's absolutely charming and to be honest I would have picked either there or Wengen, but it is for the OH's 50th (nearly 6 months late) so the choice was his. Keep posting your piccies and so I can pretend I'm there

IncogSkiSno, I'm sur you and your hubby will have a lovely time in Zermatt, of course you may have had a better time if you'd been at the Hotel Alpenrose in Wengen

Oh no there isn't temps will go up for today and the next couple of days, there's only about 1 cm at Mannlichen and about 5cm at the Schilthorn, most likely day for any more snow would be the 2nd of October but I think save possibly on the Schilthorn that it will be too warm.
For anyone staying at the Alpenrose in Wengen this season the upstairs corridors (the last public area currently not given a facelift) will look all shiny and new as work started on their modernisation this week

It may rain on Saturday which could fall as snow higher up, this might well carry on through Sunday, unfortunately the temps are going up by 7 or 8 degrees by next Friday so it's unlikely to last save perhaps at Eigergletscher and the Schilthorn
Long range forecasts indicate that by arround the 16th of October temps will have dropped to a better level

D G Orf, Ingham haven't mentioned the re-furb of the Alpenrose which is a shame for the coming season in the latest edition.
I wonder,do the owners need to notify of any chances or do Inghams ask year after year when re-newing contracts ?

Chris Brookes, they notify the companies, but a lot of the time unless its something really big like a pool where there was none before the travel companies just reprint the deyails as before

Slightly more snow than I originally estimated 5cm at Wengeneralp, 10cm at Mannlichen and some 20cm at Eigergletscher, I still think much will melt in the coming week but a tiny amount may stay at the highest spots in the shade, next likely snowfall is a week today on the 11th of October, long range forecast predicts a gradual cooling in the area which is a good sign, I still don't anticipate major snowfall before the end of this month however, but I could be wrong, major snowfall by the way would be 30cm at Wengen level

^^ 30cm of snow in Wengen is 'major' whatever the time of year!
telford_mike, no 150cm of Snow in Wengen is major, believe me I've experienced it, and my parents were there when they had so much snow that it was up to the top of the shop windows in the highstreet and they had to cut a path 4ft wide down the middle of the street, however if Wengen has in excess of 30cm of snow you can generally feel confident that the skiing all over the mountain will be great
