You just need one quick glance at the “live” PdS map to see how poor the Les Gets + Morzine half is now v the Avoriaz and Chatel sector. Glad we got our long weekend fix in January when conditions were excellent.

@snoozeboy, I had at look back at my weather posts and yes I was expecting a lot more about a week ago, but quickly noted the change in pattern a day or two later, even using the non technical term ‘s***show’, revising my target to 11cm at 1300m . Beyond that I don’t think I made much reference to the NW getting a huge amount as all the focus was pointed to the southern alps.
...
Anyway, I’ll tone down any future excitement so as not to unintentionally mislead anyone. If I carry on at all, there really is no upside to putting my analysis in public…..the appreciation received of course is nice, but I’ve shared all the limited knowledge/methods I have at this stage.

I think you should continue to call it as you see it and expect a gentle pisstake when things go awry. I expected a lot more too, but then I only use GFS, for convenience, which tends to be optimistic.
And on that bombshell, GFS looking good for a significant fall on Sunday.

@snoozeboy, oh yeah I know your angle is usually bantz-related (a Welsh rugby supporter too?)....which is always welcome. Still maintain I spotted the point where it was all heading wrong, about 5 days out......but it only went 'wrong' for northern areas.....everywhere south from Pyrenees to Croatia had one of the dumps of the season. And I mentioned early Mar quite a few times, so another long range bust? Lets see.
@franga, as an example, that live piste map shows the entire LG bowl lifts as purple "in preparation", but a cursory glance at the live webcams shows them all operating right now, and lot's of people around.

On Friday last week, there were times when I was looking at the purple lifts on the live piste map and had some lifts that were open and some that were closed, right in front of me, so it's not an exact science.

@Snow&skifan, get your magnifying glass out....the altitudes are listed at 3 different levels on Wepowder image.....but it's all fingers in the air anyway
YR was 1200m and GFS was for 1300m average.....Friday btw looking at 10cm approx starting at 1500m finishing 1100m
Edit oh sorry....you're probably asking about the Morzine pic...dont know where that is exactly, but can see parts of LG in background?, I'd guess 1400? Near the golf course?

Piste 3 up super lift, about 1400ish yeah... Not my photo thankfully, apparently it's not so bad elsewhere but I imagine other areas will follow if there's no incoming...

So someone ... lift company, tourist office, resort management etc ...needs to get their finger out and sort it? It's very poor. Perhaps, they can send a rep to the 3Vs to see how it's done. If I was a normal punter looking at a map that was implying that more than 50% of the local pistes were shut I wouldn't be inclined to visit (maybe I'm being harsh but it's a simple fix).

Yes, I think I recall you started to row back on it at some point, but I didn't check back through all the posts and my memory is fading fast these days... and couldn't resist the dig anyway as I thought polosbustedflush had a ring to it. You should be proud, have T shirts made or something. Yes, welsh rugby supporter... hence pessimist etc.
GFS has been many times full of promise this year and apart from one time early season, under-delivered. All this said, the pistes that I've skied (mostly Chatel, occasionally Avoriaz, La Chapelle) have been in remarkable condition when I've skied them, even ignoring the low snowfall and high precipitation. I've rarely encountered many stones, let alone the horrific brown patches seen on this thread, but then I rarely if ever ski further to Morzine than Zore (which is pretty bad at the bottom, but that's expected).
Oh and that "live" map is legendary for being shockingly bad, as you'll know too well.
In any case, Sunday onwards... is going to be epic.

@polo, that’s the bottom of Tetris(sp?) at Super M - they try very very hard to keep that open, at least in the afternoon as the bar just above the gondola (l’Passage?) relies on passing trade. But I thought on Sunday it can only have a day or two left.

I use ski passes to decide, so:
- SuperM is in Avo .
- Chamoisieres is in LG.
- Ranfoilly is in LG - and in Samoëns (if you like XC).
I thereby deny MZ's existence.

Hi,
I'm in Avoriaz at the moment. Enough snow but not loads. Zore and Tetra runs down to Morzine telecabin closed due to being mid baths apparently.
Reasonably busy, so might be a lot of people from other resorts up here maybe? But not completely rammed.

Meteo France has the snow level pegged at about 1300m for Fri - Tues. Fingers crossed it drops a bit but even that would be a lovely top up for most of the area.

@0836whimper, I think that photo is said mud patches! Was like that Sunday. I wonder if they’re doing what they did last year and just opening it in the afternoon so l’Passage gets their passing trade.

It’s brown snow with stones but ok on rental skiis, I took my board off for a bit. Did it in the am, goes past l,Passage. They must just shove a load on every night.
The other bar opposite the lift, Grenouilles du Marais, has been extended so you can access it more easily.

We stayed in Morzine last weekend (thur/sun). We didn’t ski Thursday due to heavy rain, but conditions Friday through to Sunday were very good above 1500m. As per the photo above the last 200m of Zore down to Super Morzine was bad, but we skied 100km over 3 days and that was the only spot we saw anything like that.
You can’t currently do the PdS circuit as the Châtel Morgins run is closed. But there was loads of great skiing especially on the Swiss side via Grande Conche

Got this photo from a mate in Morzine today - this is the run down from Pleney to Charniaz/Troncs etc. He said it’s open - and there looks to be more people there than you’d expect for a closed run - only link between Pleney and LG bowl?

I don’t know - I’m not there, this was from a mate. But this run was shut the other day and you could go the other way, but maybe that’s closed now? They’re both showing as open on the unreliable app map! Or maybe people want a quicker way to get from Pleney to Nyon area?

Yeah I’m normally on the Avoriaz side, but when we’ve gone to that side I’d choose the route above as it’s normally quieter than the one I mentioned, but I didn’t know if that was also shut. Not good, either way.
