Snow-covered valley runs through the new snow cannons:
• Arvengarten - Brandegg - Grindelwald Grund
• Holenstein - Grindelwald Grund
• Allmend Wengen
New to the following slopes are covered with snow entirely technical:
• Slope No. 26 in the chairlift Eiger (1 km)
• Slope No. 5/6 warehouses mountain station-Sattelegg-warehouses valley (3 km)
Amazing story, and a great outcome. It's easy to dismiss these guys as a bunch of nutters, but we all love the videos don't we?

I can remember the first summer wingsuits became available I met some people coming up on the train from Grindelwald who had been jumping of the Eiger (I think) and seeing how far they could get before they had to pull the chute, apparently there's a hill or something on the flight path that they were trying to get past, they'd worked out if they could get past this small hill they'd be able to get all the way to Grund before opening the canopy, it was their second trip up of the day.
I'm guessing that they now go down the other way all the way to Lauterbrunnen, following the steep sided valley that goes between the Blackrock piste and the front of the Junfrau

D G Orf, Quite sure of that, the report says he landed in the waters near the Trummelbach falls.

Switzerland abolishes time
The new video features two Swiss farmers, Seb and Paul, as they go round dismantling clocks across the country.
The emphasis is on time standing still, a relaxing holiday and of course the video gently sends up the Swiss and their reputation for an obsession with time.
Switzerland Tourism will be releasing the video in October across the internet (currently an unlisted video)
Looks good. Didn't care for the old narrow bridge with it's rutted tracks - although visually the old one was I'm sure a lot more pleasing to the eye.

I would imagine that by next year it will blend into the landscape far more, and the old bridge was to be fair rather ugly in the summer, will be interesting to see how the new one copes this winter, not that I'll be there baring a win on the euromillions, it's going to mean more effort for the pisteurs to ensure that what I assume will be th eblue run stays covered in snow, they have problems with the bridge for the racetrack lower down and this looks at least 3 times wider, but the height may help

Construction continues on new Wixi 6er base station!
pjd, probably not, my guess is that maybe they will be doing somethng with the Fallboden lift at some future point, also they need somewhere to store the much larger chairs off of the cable
Hi, I'm after some local knowledge as we're considering Wengen again for Feb half term. Our son's school seems to finish the week earlier than most here on 9th Feb so was wondering if Wengen is likely to be horrendously busy still due to other local school holidays or if it gets packed with other nationalities then?
We've been before and loved it so would like to go back but not if its going to mean horrendous queues ... what do you think?
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Rowlski, not had horrendous queues even during really bad half terms save for 4 locations, Wengen railway and cablecar stations Wixi and Mannlichen Chair lifts, you can avoid the worst Queues in Wengen by simply going up the slopes before about 9.30 am till 10.30 am when they are at their busiest and the new Wixi chairlift should help reduce queues as well

Thanks D G Orf, I can imagine the two main uplift locations being a bit chaotic alight if busy but sounds avoidable. Very tempted, will have to lookup options this evening, would be lovely to get back to Wengen again - and see the new Wixi lift. Last time I didn't make it over to the First area at all so would like to try that too.
Are there any other new developments of note / new mountain huts? I think it was 3 or 4 years ago now that we were there.

Rowlski, can't think of anything else that's not shown up on here.
Getting to First, take the early cablecar up the Manlichen and ski to Grund then catch the local bus at Grund up to First last time I went on the bus it was covered by the ski pass, in fact I think last time they didn't even check ! much faster to go this way than by train coming back get the train back up to Kleine Scheidegg, make sure you leave First in plenty of time to go this way as the alternative is going the valley route back which takes significantly longer

Rowlski,Across at the better side , Mürren in 2009 installed a new 2str chairlift Allmiboden and replaced Winteregg Chair with a much faster 4str one.

Many people don't realise that the Bond film contributed a fair bit of money towards finishing off the Shilthorn, in fact as originally conceived there was no helicopter landing area to the side of the Restaurant, but the movie people wanted to land helicopters there and the locals thought it might be good for mountain rescue so the movie paid for that.
What is less well known is that they had massive problems with getting the lighting balance right, resorting to wrapping the outside of the restaurant with sheets of colour correcting film so they could get the light balance correct.
During the filming they asked anyone in the area who owned a fur coat to go to Lauterbrunnen one evening as extras so they could film the scenes where they have the ice race in cars etc. Somewhere in the crowd is my dear old mum, but sadly you never see her face
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

It'd make a nice change from the portaloos outside the Start Bar that's for sure.

Ah well, won't be seeing the new lifts this year, I could find flights but no affordable accommodation for the early half term week. It was "mariginally" cheaper than the main half term week but not by much. will have to book much early for Wengen next year to try and find a bargain. Went for Saas Fee second week of the Easter school hols instead, still want to get back to the Jungfrau though ...
Chris Brookes, will be across to Murren again next time we're there
I shall still be webcam watching even though we're not going there too!

telford_mike, yep snowing right down in Wengen as well but I don't suppose it will last very long, mostly October snow lasts a day or three and then melts, but hopefully it is a sign of things to come, realistically it is rare for snow to stay (save at the highest levels) until we get to the middle of November and it is not at all unusual to have no snow in the Villages even as late as Christmas, however this years summer has been cooler which might suggest that winter may start earlier and Skiing may be good right from the start of the season, we shall wait and see
